    Great band.

Well, I say 'band', but much in the same was as Trent Reznor is NIN, Evan is The Lemonheads. I liked Juliana Hatfield and Ben Deilly too though.

The first three albums are for completists only really. Lovey is underrated in my opinion. It's a Shame about Ray and Come on Feel are the classic albums, Car Button Cloth is very nearly as good and contains some of Evan's best songs (Hospital, The Outdoor Type, If I Could Talk I'd Tell You).

The eponymous eighth album is really good too, Evan backed by the Descendents, well..two of them anyway. There's some seriously good whimsical songwriting on that albums.

Varshons is a covers slbum and I can take it or leave it.

Glastonbury 1994 was my favourite Lemonheads show. I was lucky enough to see their 'final' gig at Reading 1997. Evan was on fine form and insisted that they extend their set at a cost of many thousands of pounds to himself in fines so they could pack a few more requests in. Last time I saw them was at the Ben & Jerry's Summer Sundae in 2008. Well, I say 'them', I mean Evan and his latest backing band. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

ETA: The Outdoor Type was actually written by Tom Morgan, but triple whatevs etc etc

I already have faith in North Face gear through camping, walking and snowboarding.

To be honest, I'd be far more inclined to trust them than a lot of the established cycling specific clothing brands.

that's fair enough. I was cheering for the paras in NI.
If only the Irish were as good at fighting as they are at hurling.

    Oh that's hardly fair backhander.

PIRA were awesome at killing catholics, far better than the security forces or the loyalist paramilitaries

I had hardly even heard of the Labour party – still shouted for the Argies though. If only they were as good at fighting as football.

Well that's the tragedy of the republican mindset. An identity principally defined by hatred of Britain rather than pride in Ireland.

Maybe one day you'll get over it.

    Why?

Because she should have let the Argies have them. The Malvinas are theirs after all.

No they're not and they never were.

They were Brit administered and populated exclusively by Brits before Argentina even existed. There was no native population.

We'll negotiate terms with Spain (who have a claim to a certain extent) once the last of Argentina's caucasian population jumps on a boat back to Spain, Italy, Ireland and various other European countries.

I agree with most of what you've said there, except

Not that I agree with him. A certain kind of tribal Labour voter would have far preferred that we lost the war.

    Wiki:

    QUOTE:
Anglosphere is a term with conflicting meanings. For some, the Anglosphere is just those set of nations with English as the most common language. For many others, it is a set of nations which share an "English-like" character and culture, particularly including the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. Further still, the Anglosphere has strong global socio-economic connotations, as the six countries which comprise the anglosphere have among the world's highest standards of living.
    UNQUOTE.

I favour the latter (and more commonly accepted) definition.

+1 for huge Maglite under the bed.

People shouldn't have to think twice about using physical force against intruders in their home*.

In the rest of the Anglosphere you'd be well within your rights to shoot them and I'd totally support the right to do that here.

*Due to fear of prosecution by the useless soft target chasing CPS, obviously people should think twice with regards to personal safety.

You work in London, you wouldn't think twice about paying £25 for a crayfish and rocket sandwich on focaccia, low fat apricot muffin and a hazelnut latte so you can't moan about this! :p

These suggestions are pretty mainstream. Can none of you think of any that are sufficiently niche? I'm thinking one that's eye wateringly expensive, made from ultra lightweight materials and put together by bearded craftsmen.

I remember those shirts Fuct used to do with stuff like 'It's too late to recycle' and 'Fight crime, buy a gun' on them from when I was about 15/16.

In a pre-internet age I had to go up to Slam City Skates in Covent Garden to find any sort of range.

This was back when there were only 25 or so decent skate shops in the whole country. The nearest shop to me was Off-Beat in Basingstoke, it was about half the size of my bedroom and used to have about 20 tee shirts, 5 hoodies/sweatshirts, 4 varieties of Etnies or Duffs (this was when Duffs were making amazing skate shoes, anyone remember the Strombolie?) and about 15 decks plus hardware in at any given point. That was pretty much it, you'd end up buying whatever they had rather than what you actually wanted.

There was always the option of ordering through mailorder set-ups like Rollersnakes and HSC though.

    I own a Matanuska M65 jacket

Fantastic jacket; assume you bought it at the current half-price!

    Certainly did!

Bought the hoody at full price which was a bit of an eye watering moment, but what's the point in working overtime if you can't spend it? :P

Stussy – still got a couple of tops I wear. Me fave brand at the time.

    whatever became … ??

    Still going strong.

Slightly harder to find in the shops (in the UK anyway), but widely available online.

Their London shop closed a couple of years ago, but that was more to do with laughable Covent Garden commercial rents. They're going to reopen elsewhere apparently, it always seemed to be full of people spending loads of money.

    What's wrong with Timberland anyway?

A good company that makes stylish functional waterproof footwear (and accompanying branded apparel) that hundreds of thousands of people in a vast array of outdoorsy jobs rely on in addition to the millions more who buy them because they admire the aesthetics.

All large companies started as small companies, Timberland is no different. Companies that hit on a winning formula and are able to capitalise upon it deserve success, why begrudge them for it?

Timberland are probably a good fit for Howies, who at any rate, are not a charity and never were.

    Commencal Ramones 2 (2010)

Long travel 'hardcore' hardtail on Pike 454 Coil U-Turns.

At 31.5 lbs I'm not sure whether it counts as really heavy, but I guess that's quite a lot for a hardtail.

It's certainly no XC whippet rocket, but then I don't like that type of mountain biking at all. It's amazing on the trails and for the downs/light freeride/North Shore I'd pitch it against any other hardtail on the planet.

The frame is just ridiculously strong.

Is it really worth the bother, seriously?

You can still get 0% loans in a lot of bike shops as long as you don't bank with the First Central Investment Bank of Nigeria or you could go totally crazy and save up for the **** in the first place.

I wouldn't dismiss the concept out of hand.

The idea should be contingent upon enhanced levels of JSA for those who participate though, possibly on a sliding scale dependent upon how many hours they put in. I think I'd have been quite happy to give this a go when I was unemployed.

Then again, I made the mistake of attending Job Centre Plus clean shaven, wearing a suit and freshly polished shoes with my CV at the ready and a portfolio of job applications that I had submitted along with corresponding covering letters.

The advisors reacted with a blend of bewilderment and borderline panic whilst the leisurewear clad denizens of Bournemouth West gawped open mouthed between foul mouthed tirades at their wives/girlfriends/whatevers and the long suffering receptionist.

They're just not geared up to help people who actually want to work.

Stussy used to be cool back then as well.

I first encountered Stussy in about 1992, I was 12 and this American kid at school had absolutely loads of it.

I couldn't afford it until I went to sixth form college by which point it was even more wildly expensive. Funnily enough, I'm wearing one of their ubiquitous signature tee shirts right now.

I've still got 5 of their tee shirts, two of which I've had for 14 years now. I bought a sweatshirt earlier in the year too in some shop in Leeds, it was silly money, but I'm a self confessed streetwear label whore especially where Carhartt and Volcom are concerned.

The jeans look really nice, but I'm a Levi's loyalist…that said, I do like Volcom denim too, especially the shorts.

I didn't think I owned any Howies, but I noticed that my Rough Trade tee shirt was made by Howies the other day.

Made in Turkey 'in a really nice factory', apparently.
