Don’t complain unless you were really hard done by,a lot of hard work can be undone in one fowl swoop.

Can’t help thinking you’re trying to duck the issue.

I prefer my hardtail to any of my other bikes.

Admittedly, the fact that I don’t have any other bikes has some bearing on this.

That’s satire, not ‘satay’ you complete and utter baker’s friend.

alot of money to spend to just have as an abroad bike.,

‘A lot of money’ is relative to income/funds available.

Besides, we need people to get out there and spend in order to reinvigotate the economy. Come to think of it, you should all go out and buy at least two new bikes each. If your wife/girlfriend gives you any aggro, simply look at her with disgust and accuse her of being unpatriotic.

did some one say charcoal grey bootcuts? where??! which store?!!?? NOW!!!
    Posted 5 minutes ago # Report-Post

Invariably, it turns out to be just a wild rumour. Too late, they realise they’re competing over some lime green leisure slacks with ‘Le Coq Sportif’ emblazoned down the side in pink stitching.

TK Maxx is the UK variant of an American chain called TJ Maxx which sells a range of end of line branded goods at knock-down prices.

Anything from golf clubs to jeans, via ski jackets and underwear.

The shops typically resemble the scene 30 seconds after a UN aid drop in a war ravaged third world country. Aisles littered with detritus as the assembled public fight over the last pair of charcoal grey bootcut cords in 32/32 etc etc.

That said, there are some good bargains to be had if you’re willing to look.

I’ve just eaten a white chocolate Reese’s Cup.

There were two in the packet, but I only had one. Buff by morning or my money back.

You may as well request that people tell you about state education, motor vehicles or rock music.

A million and one variations exist.

This being STW you’ll also get a load of bitter old lefties with chips on both shoulders, spouting off about something they know nothing about.

I went to both private and state schools. One of the private schools was good, one was okay and the other was bloody awful. Conversely, I attended a pretty poor state school and a truly excellent state sixth form college, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Symonds_College, which consistently ranks in the top 10 nationwide.

Private schools are not necessarily better than state schools, you’ll also be surprised at the range of parents who choose to send their children to them. Private schools educate around 8% of the nation’s children, they’re not all like Eton. You won’t be rubbing shoulders with the landed aristocracy at the majority of them and based on my own experience, snobbery was notable only by it’s absence.

I have however, experienced no end of inverted snobbery from jaded old class warriors with an inferiority complex.

Do what’s right for your children, nothing else matters.

    Sociology?

Yes, there will besome SW with sociology undergraduate degrees, but not as many as you may think.

My SW friends took psychology and English literature before their MSc Social Work. There’s also a direct undergraduate route now through the SW degree.

That’s quite offensive. Not just to me, but also to women reading this thread. I’m a little disappointed at how negative many of these posts are, if I wanted to be told that the only way to get a six-pack was to eat less and train harder, I’d go over to some bloody body fascist exercise asylum, but it seems quite a few of the inmates have found their way over here.

I think you and Margaret from human resources should get yourself down to the spinning class on Tuesday night.

After 15 minutes of mild physical exertion, you can go to Harvester to discuss your uniquely laissez-faire fitness regime over a mega combo platter. As long as you stick to 4 pints or less to accompany your meal, you’ll be dancing on a podium at G-A-Y clad only in orange PVC hot pants before you can say ‘Rosemary Conley’.

No offence, but try reading my previous post and be a bit more imaginative with your nutritional thinking. I’m confident that my plan will be both more effective and more enjoyable. I suspect that be eating foods that specifically target abdominal fat, I’ll be able to achieve my goals without such ridiculous measures.

None taken, but you’re coming across a little like one of those ‘bubbly’ women who order a quarter pounder with cheese, chips and a large Coke before uttering those immortal words ‘Actually, make that a Diet Coke’, as if it’s some kind of magic potion.

    wow, loaded then?

You’ll have to refer me to the part of my post where I described that as ‘loaded’, because I can’t find it.

My point was rather that it isn’t quite the incredibly poorly paid job that some appear to think it is. Indeed, it’s on a par with teaching and the police and better than nursing.

Note that I am referring to the remuneration only and not to the effort exerted in order to earn it.

No cake, no Green & Black’s, no alcohol.

5K run every morning, sit-ups and ab crunches til’ you feel sick (morning and night).

More resisting cake, Green & Black’s and alcohol.

Not sure where the ‘poorly paid’ bit comes into it.

Sure, there are plenty of better paid jobs, but my friend is earning £28,500 in his very first SW post barely a year after completing his MSc Social Work at Goldsmiths.

He’s working in London (Westminster), but that only accounts for a few thousand extra.

    I ride a Ramones.

It’s way more suited to ‘All Mountain’ than XC, mine weighs a fraction over 31 lbs so it’s no lightweight whippet, perfectly capable of climbing hills though (and let’s face it, climbing hills is rubbish regardless of the bike you’re on).

Yes, there were a lot of broken Commencals, I believe the problems were largely confined to the Meta (though feel free to correct me) and 2009 seemed to have been the problem year. The Ramones was introduced for 2010 and it is a strong bike, seriously strong. Actually, it’s virtually indestructible!

I shared your concerns about the name, but I actually like the band (and can name the majority of their albums, unlike Tim Lovejoy!). Besides, there used to be a band called Campeg Velocet, so it’s only fair.

I really like it, changed the forks from Tora 289 to Pike 454 Coil U-Turn and added DMR V12 pedals, Nukeproof lock-on grips, Halo QR skewers and an e13 Supercharger bash ring. It’s perfect for me. Only paid £660 for it too which offsets the cost of the components I’ve swapped out.

Large enough for my 17.4 inch laptop (in sleeve) to fit comfortably in the main compartment.

Great bag. Compact enough for day-to-day/business/university use and when expanded I have used it as a weekend bag. Managed to fit jeans, shirt, spare pants and socks, wash bag, iPod etc etc in there.

Hmmm….looks like I’ll need to hunt down this data stuff then.

I like snowdomes, but my nearest High Wycombe (I think! Used to be MK) is about an hour and a half away, whereas Wareham is only 20 minutes from home.

Snowflex is quite good fun and less risk of injury than actul snow, let alone the old Dendex diamonds of death! It’s just the friction that gets me, there’s nothing like running out of momentum on the lip of a kicker 8O

The trouble with internet dating is that…

All of the women are slim. Every last one of them.
No, really now. You’re just going to have to believe me, they’re all lean mean fat burning machines.

Then you turn up to meet your date and find that she’s been eaten by Jabba the Hutt who, not content with snacking on your potential paramour, is now actually claiming to be her!

    A ripe old age.

My grandad died today too, I don’t think he had a cult following in Albania, but he was a household name in a couple of houses in Boston, Lincs!

I borrowed a 5 (AM) the other day, very impressed by it.

I’ev always wondered whether they’d be half as popular with the Brit MTB fraternity were it not for the fact that Orange are based on home soil.

Where are you based? I have an old board. Airwalk I think it is probably 158cm length.
    Snow bike eh. intriguing

    Which Airwalk board is it?

I borrowed one from a friend in about 2001 and it was brilliant. Their boards were really good, they surprised everyone…although, I think they were actually being made by Atomic and then marketed under the Airwalk brand.

Sean Condon’s ‘Drive Thru America’, it’s a Lonely Planet travelogue detailing his coast-to-coast roadtrip. Very amusing.

I’m also working my way through the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, having thoroughly enjoyed the recent movie adaptation.
