The worst drivers I see are 40 something blokes, particularly those in familymobiles or 10 year old bottom of the range BMW 3 Series with ridiculous aftermarket alloy wheels.

I would like to see those convicted for a second offence of drink driving given an automatic life ban. Unrelated, just throwing it out there.

    Good on him.

Are people really shocked by this sort of thing?

ETA: Blurry pics…sure they weren’t fake? If I was a Prince Harry lookalike I’d spend every weekend in Vegas!

We get litter on Bournemouth/Poole beaches too, but not in the same quantities as Brighton.

Not sure why, maybe people feel more guilty about leaving rubbish on a proper sandy beach. Alternatively, maybe it’s because we get far fewer filthy Laaaarndarners.

Alanis morrisette might consider it ironic

Yeah well, she also considered ‘a black fly in your chardonnay’ to be ironic, which wasn’t ironic. Ironically.

    Exceptionally powerful television.

These threads are a lot more pleasant now that all of the underemployed lefty windbags have been banned!

Re: Pixies – It’s lovely, sold out though I think.

There’s a Wedding Present one too, but Bizarro was never the most appealing of album covers.

I think the difference is participation…

When people ask me what sports I like I say surfing, cycling, snowboarding, running…then they look at me strangely. The thing is though, that i actively participate in all of those sports some of them on a daily basis (though not snowboarding, unfortunately). Invariably, they like football, football and err….football.

Not to play though as they never do. Maybe they played it at school, perhaps they kick the ball about on the beach once each year, but they have no interest in playing the game. So, to all intents what they should have asked me was ‘What do you like watching on the TV?’.

Iron Maiden to close the ceremony with The Trooper complete with Eddie waving a giant union flag.

    Possibly.

    Please?

I had a woman demand that I put her ex-boyfriend on the sex offenders register. I asked whether he had any convictions in that regard, she told me that he didn’t. I briefly explained to her how the system worked, that I lacked the authority to do what she wanted me to and that at any rate he was entirely innocent in the eyes of the law regardless of what neighbourhood tittle tattle she had heard.

Then I asked where she was calling from….Belfast.
Me: Hmmm…you do realise that you’re calling Dorset Probation?
    Her: So what?

I made my excuses and ended the call.

Never understood why some people think that U-Turn is a faff, it really isn’t.

I’m reminded of those people who used to insist that Flow bindings were great because you saved ‘so much time’ at the top of lifts….hmmm, and what were you planning on doing with those extra 3 seconds?!

This forum is pretty tightly policed, I’ve seen much worse on other forums…naked photographs of other users posted after forum romances went wrong, sustained campaigns of harassment, comedy letters/emails to users employers/neighbours etc and even an organised fight!

Got back home at 01.30, just woken up…

    My observations:

Guernsey is GORGEOUS, I really liked Jersey, but Guernsey definitely edges it for me. We were very lucky with the weather, it was the best day of the summer so far.

We ate a full English in White Rock Cafe as recommended by UncleFred and as promised it was full of dockers! We walked past Christies a short while later, looks very smart…think I’ll save that for when I go back.

There were a staggering number of absolutely beautiful women out and about, is it always like that in Guernsey?!

Hopped on the 7a and got off at Vason, Cobo, Pembroke and explored some of the German gun emplacements/coastal fortifications.

Castle Cornet was great, spent a few hours there in the evening whilst waiting for the return ferry. There was a KPMG sponsored concert on under the name Castle Nights, mainly covers bands, but perfect end to th e day and a really nice atmosphere.

Is there a substantial Portuguese community on Guernsey? I know that they form about 10% of the population of Jersey and there were beautiful olive skinned women all over the place. Lots of Australians too, both working in bars and smartly dressed types who looked like they may have worked in the finance sector.

We went to a great little bar that had just opened, just down the road from the war memorial in St Peter Port, chatted to lots of nice people…actually, everyone was really friendly. There seemed to be a great sense of community.

What’s with Breda lager being everywhere? My friend thought it was local until I told him it was Dutch. It was on tap everywhere we went!

I can see how it could get really claustrophobic for those just hitting adulthood, but it seemed like it would be a lovely place to grow up.

I’m going back in month or so to visit Alderney and Sark.

Many thanks for that, seems like there’s more than enough to fill the time.

Looking forward to exploring the island. Are there decent surfing beaches? I know that windsurfing is pretty big there.

How could you get ID’d at the Railway!?

It was my lunchtime pub while at Peter Symmonds college

That’s what makes it even worse…I used to drink there when I was at Symonds too and never used to have problems then!

They were deliberately cocking it up though. They were hitting the shuttlecock into the net on purpose.

There’s no comparison with a cyclist who may ride at 90% maximum capacity so as to preserve energy for a later surge in an attempt to WIN a race.

I’d have done the same. The Olympics ( or any high level sport) is about maximising chances of a medal. Aus and Ger didn’t exactly pull from the gun in the men’s RR but nobody suggested DQing them, it’s just tactics.

    No comparison.

It’s not like they both repeatedly rode their bikes into the crash barriers, is it?

I think one of the Chinese pairs were trying to avoid the other Chinese pair in order to maximise Chinese medal prospects. Not that that excuses them or anything.

you have little understanding of these things, police as individuals may well be ok– but as a group they are under instruction/orders —theirs is an instituationalised world, goes with the job, and they behave accordingly, its nothing particularly personal, they do as they are told— much like many on here—- just don’t question them eh????

Ever wonder how things change ????//

By accepting whatever comes your way ????

Lot of people seem to live on their knees, its good to stand up and fight for your beliefs, suppose it depends on your life experiences….

Right on, nevermind the SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPLE, let’s man(or woman) the barricades brother!!!!1

Nothing compared to the commentary on NBC…

During the road race stage they were bollocking on about the ‘chateaus’ that dotted the Surrey countryside.

The opening ceremony had too many to mention, but one highlight during the parade of nations was when Madagascar came out ‘Madagascar, recently made famous by an animated movie’.

    Just incredible.
