who’s going to Ned’s Atomic Dustbin?

Partly middle aged men who will blabber on about the old days and their Miele appliances instead of listening to the band – the rest made up of “I know all da wurdz” shoutalongers…
    Not for me thanks!

Miele? I wish…Hotpoint here, other than the fridge which being Beko doubles up as a BBQ if the wiring is faulty!

FFS were good fun, DFA1979 brilliant as ever, but other than that not a massive amount that really appealed to me.

John Peel would never have endorsed the overwhelming bulk of acts that appeared on the stage that is named for him.
I know the Guardian have been running lots of articles on the scarcity of women in the line-up…it makes you wonder why they didn’t book the likes of Ex Hex, Waxahatchee, Speedy Ortiz, Du Blonde, Veronica Falls, RVIVR…at a stretch even L7 and Babes in Toyland are back!

I know it’s been going that way for years, but it’s just overwhelmingly MOR/Radio 2 now. Nothing wrong with that of course and there’s clearly a massive market for it.

Razorrazoo – I’m sure your wife would be fine with it if you reminded her that it was also the 25th anniversary of KYTV!
Joint celebration? Okay, it’s a stretch.

Reading 91-95 had incredible line-ups, only got to go from 94 onwards on account of being 13!

Cheers dd! Never seen him solo before, but have watched Dinosaur Jr 3 times and always been
impressed. Need to listen to that 6Music session from yesterday…lots of people on Facebook
were complaining about him him being antisocial during Lauren’s interview, but he’s just incredibly
withdrawn and I’ve always quite liked rock stars who feel a bit embarrassed about being rock stars!

I’ve only been to Koko once (Rocket From the Crypt), though beautiful I found it to be incredibly counter-intuitive in terms of layout…getting drinks/moving around was fraught with difficulties. Alternatively, I may just have been worse for wear!

I got a Gamecube for Christmas…Mario Kart is still amazing and had forgotten how great Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 & 3 are. Kelly Slater Pro Surfer is still fiendishly frustrating though!

Hayfever, milk chocolate Hob Nobs, dark chocolate Hob Nobs, Hob Nobs creams (chocolate variety), caramel ice cream, the first three Ramones records, the decolletage of Monica Bellucci, thin and crispy pizza (all varieties other than marinara), long-travel hardtails, Lib Tech snowboard deck art, 4OD, Penguin Classics, old detective novels, reasonably fast family hatchbacks with fairly ridiculous MPG, the island of Guernsey, New York (Sept-Nov and March-May), 6 Music, the West Country, Tunnock’s Wafers/Tea Cakes/Caramel Logs, daytime drinking in a provincial Wetherspoons, the smell of freshly cut grass, lamb or pork when cooked on a BBQ, prawn toast, pontificating, ambling about on sunny days, almost everything that Sub Pop have ever released, those blatantly fixed horse racing games in penny arcades and failing to properly read posts at the beginning of threads on special interest website forums.

Just as an example of what you can do…

My brother did the same course as you at a substantially less prestigious university and graduated with a 2:2. He got into a sales role for a household name in the fast moving consumer goods (not my terminology!) world and then jumped ship to the big Korean electronics firm that isn’t LG. He really enjoys it and was earning 35Kish plus car allowance at the age of 28. With your Bath degree and excellent A Levels there’s no end to the list of directions you could take your career in.

I ordered a leather NATO-style watch strap on Monday, natural/undyed leather, 24mm wide, stainless steel hardware and red stitching. It arrived first thing this morning, beautiful thing…the leather is great quality, sheer craftsmanship and £24.99 postage paid. Made by a guy called Alex in England.

If it happens, it’ll be either from the top or as the result of massive rioting (caused by famine or whatever) and a subsequent collapse of civil society.

It’s likely to be something of the sort you suggest.

Mohamed Bouazizi was a 26 year old street vendor, his suicide in protest at the harassment he received from corrupt Tunisian police officers sparked the Arab Spring. It’s easy to imagine a similar incident in North Korea…somebody roughed up by the security forces in a provincial town, local protests, a policeman lynched, a crackdown and reprisals, mass street battles, local garrison mutinies etc etc

Very popular in South Armagh (other rural red diesel hot spots are available), HMRC are even taking action and prosecuting people there now which they wouldn’t have dared do not so long ago.

Tory or not, elements within the Metropolitan Police felt confident enough in their ability to stitch up a government Minister. Imagine what they might be willing to do to the likes of you and I?

If he’s in receipt of HB and has elected not to pay you, then that’s just
financial mismanagement (whether unintended or calculated). It isn’t fraud.

It must be a major headache for you, but is is part and parcel of being a landlord.

Well, Suede were awesome. Anderson and Butler on stage together again. Swoon!

That new Suede album is beautiful.

Tempted by the vinyl box set…slightly expensive though:

    Canada= Amerikka without the guns

    Not so.

Very similar level of gun ownership, if anything Canadians own more
proportionately. However, they seem to be significantly less likely
to shoot each other. There are obvious exceptions for Lower BC mainland
drug dealers and member of outlaw motorcycle gangs.

    Update:

I was given Sonic Youth ‘Daydream Nation’ (4LP Box set) as a leaving present by my work, wasn’t expecting that, but delighted! Then I chanced upon a first pressing of Fugazi’s ‘Margin Walker’ e.p
in mint condition for £9. It’s been a good week.

Thats just name calling, they’re all ex brits, Irish or Spanish, mostly, in general, ish.

They weren’t Brits though, they were Americans and that was an American atrocity and nothing to do with us. It’s no more down to Britain than the moon landing, Disneyland or raspberry frosted Pop Tarts.

but the holocaust gets a gold star cos it’s about as near as anyone’s come in modern history to actually annihilating an entire people

I dunno, the British & Spanish made a good fist of it in the Americas

Bizarrely, you seem to have forgotten the Americans, that is to say citizens of the the USA.

Never had a caramel log, rarely seen outside of their native Scotland. Actually, I’m sure that Snowballs used to be fairly widely available in England, but I haven’t seen one since the mid-90’s!

I moved here 10 years ago, it’s a fairly transient place…I’d say that
around half my friends here are transplants from somewhere else.

Also re: Bournemouth/Poole…as I’m sure you’re aware they form a sprawl. Actually, along with Christchurch and other outlying settlements the South-East Dorset Conurbation is said to be:

    1) The largest non-industrial conurbation in Europe
    2) The largest urban area in the country that doesn’t contain anywhere
    with city status.

A lot of people (young people especially) don’t really view Bournemouth and Poole as separate towns anymore…it would make a lot of sense if
the two unitary authorities merged and Christchurch disentangled itself from East Dorset District Council and joined them.

I tend to buy used vinyl to keep the costs down, but picked up new
copies of Mclusky ‘Mclusky do Dallas’ and Radiohead ‘Pablo Honey’ today, the former because it’s one of my favourite albums and the latter because I’ve always loved the cover!

Just remember that letting agents here (like anywhere else) are sharks and they’ve got a vested interest in rushing you into signing up for something. I’ve never found it too hard to find flats here.

I live in Charminster, work in Boscombe and my parents live in Talbot Woods so I’m well placed to answer!

Charminster is a good area, not too far from the Talbot campus (though not as close as Winton), it’s an easy 20-30 mins walk to the town centre or the railway station too depending upon which part of Charminster you’re in. Lots of restaurants, bars etc…definitely livelier than than Winton (where I used to live). Parts of Charminster are very studenty though, I live in Hankinson Road and there’s loads of noise at night now that they’re back. Conversely, when I lived by Richmond Park on the other side of Charminster we had no student houses on our road.

West Howe has no redeeming factors, don’t move there. It’s also in the wrong location for you. Boscombe isn’t anywhere near as bad as people make out…sure The Crescent and Churchill Gardens are seriously dodgy, personally I think Springbourne is worse (I remember the night that there were 2 separate murders on the Holdenhurst Road within hours of each other). My girlfriend lives in Pokesdown within 5 minutes walk of Boscombe…it’s fine. It’s all vintage shops and nice cafes.

Boscombe itself has changed, whilst the surf reef has failed it did herald major investment…the promenade/pier looks great now and the likes of Urban Beach/Urban Reef, Reef Encounter, Koh Thai, Boscanova, The Crooked Book, etc have really improved the area. I’ve never had any trouble there and I work on arguably the worst road in Boscombe. However, Boscombe is beyond 30 mins walk of the university.

Your options are Winton or Charminster really. Talbot Woods is seriously expensive and there are hardly any flats there and Wallisdown is beyond dull and isn’t anywhere near Bournemouth or Poole town centres.
