You have to twist the collar in different directions depending on whether you're using schrader or presta, that's the only confusion I can think of.

Yep got one, works fine. Twist collar in direction of required valve to lock, other way to unlock. Rocket science it is not!

Face first connection at speed with a tree in an XC helmet f***s you up. Trust me. Sore doesn't come into it.

Ah, maybe I wasn't clear, I want to run non-ust tyres tubeless, rather than with tubes.

    Etrex = £75 quid
USB cable from gpsbitz (data only, no need for power) – £13

Leaves us some way off the cost of a legend and does everything needed of it.

It's called the Arctic Oscillation – we're in a negative phase.

    It's climate – RTFM!

Tuborg! I spent 6 weeks in a dodgy in village in Greenland with work, me and my mate drank more Tuborg than I ever want to see again, pretty much the only beer you could buy there.

Well, having had a quick dig through google scholar I'd say it's far from the accepted position seeing as it's still being heavily debated.

TJ – I can't be arsed with digging through pub med to find out if someone else's boldly stated position is right or not, it's their responsibility to defend it.

    Mister Crud:

You're thinking of Heinrich events – it's not a periodic switching on and off, it's a reaction to massive and rapid loss of a northern hemisphere ice sheet such as the Laurentide. Greenland is extremely unlikely to go that way so don't hold your breath.

The best way to stick with training I've come across is to use a logging heart rate monitor and the training load plugin for sportstracks to monitor fitness and fatigue via TRIMP. Sounds complicated, but it's really simple – you get a number for each workout saying how hard it was, a number which shows how fatigued you should be based on recent training, and another number showing how fit you are based on recent training.

    http://gpsrunner.blogspot.com/2008/12/training-load-plug-in-for-sporttracks.html

Watching your fitness go up over time is super motivating, and you can easily get an idea of when you should rest, and can see your fitness drop when you don't train.

Cheapest way of getting a logging HRM is get a cheap non-encoded HRM from somewhere like decathlon or aldi, and the use the oregon scientific logger from Wiggle.

Same here, I've got an 06 and prefer it to the curvy ones. 100mm Trance + 130mm forks = singletrack eating monster :o)

Posting this from Fedora at work, have Ubuntu at home. Got plenty of recommendations for software, depends what kind of software you want!

I would say yes! Though they'll cut through mud like anything, you'll really feel it banging over rocks, and will have to run highish pressures to avoid pinch punctures.

I was under the impression that he passed selection then was thrown out so might not have seen combat with them. He did see active service in the Oman though, which makes him considerably braver than me, and indeed I imagine most other users of this forum.

The answer to virtually any post related costumer service complaint – overworked and understaffed. Don't moan about the postie, it's almost certainly the company's fault. Modernisation? Bloody disaster.

I was a postie for a couple of years, and Royal Mail were an absolute disaster to work for – manipulative lying bar stewards. Examples, being intimidated by line managers into unwanted overtime because of far too few staff, workplace bullying that going unchecked, that sort of thing. After one christmas my back started to give in (seems most posties have chronic back problems) and I had to take time off. Sympathy from Royal Mail, maybe some physio? Nope, I got a dismissal warning about my attendance. Little shites.

I'm behind CWU all the way.

Haven't ridden both, but anyone who says shadow rear mechs are a pig to set up must be really bad at setting up rear mechs! Perfectly straight forwards.
