Interested in this thread .. As I have a few bikes needing a refresh.

Question – when or who applies the decals?

And should the powder cost be laquered?

Stupid question but the lighter protection options like the launch pro .. Has anyone ever fallen heavily in them and what was the result?

What worries me more about this story is the welfare of all of the staff involved. Specifically the ambulance crew.

Knowing what I know about investigations within this particular workforce … I’m pretty sure they will have suffered far more than 17 mins of pain !!

Cheers for that Woody…not sure I have the time for that…esp with most of my little rides.

    What’s sad trimix?

Riding nearly 500 miles in 21 days in between looking after a. 6 month old? Losing a stone in weight and feeling better for it.
One less car on the road? One less individual ready to start statins and such like ?

One more person in life with a passion for something?

Yeah I guess were all sad.

Or is it just you thats actually ‘sad ‘ ?

Didn’t know you could manually add it. ?

The thought of driving it later did cross my mind but lots of deep water everywhere with closed roads.

    I personally use a 35 – 45 litre rucksack ( you don’t have to fill it).

I wouldn’t venture in to the big mountains especially in snow / ice without a very lightweight sleeping bag and bivvi.

Why.. Because accidents happen so easily and whilst you are never a million miles away from help… Why get cold if you can avoid it. Oh and good pain relief !

I’d second the lower cog ratio.

My hill climbing is good but being a heavy rider my initial road bike gearing just want cutting the mustard on the steep hills so I did as you suggested – Mtb rear mech and dinner plate cassette.

Received one jibe from a smarmy roadie who pointed it out whilst I was in a pack climbing hardknott pass. I politely reminded him that at 16.5 stone I was probably almost double his pathetic waif like body weight.

His comment really got under my skin. And each time I passed him ( he walking me riding ) I reminded him of the fact that he really ought to choose a different sport.

    I finished ahead of him.

    A great topic…

As a father of a 6 month old I can easily relate to your post.

For sure your life will change…but you will still get plenty of time to ride your bike – you just have to make time and when you have the time you make the BEST use of that time.

What would I do a few weeks before ?

Get out and just relax – its your wife who needs your support.

    Well for me… Last year.

It was most certainly the weather.

Training – get the miles in. Get the legs strong, eat well drink plenty.

Go at your own pace esp downhill ( saw some nasty falls last year).

But most of all have the right clothing !! The amount of people in early or developed stages of hypothermia last year was quite unbelievable.

Especially relevant if you are from the south – Cold Fell is called that for a reason. A wild day in Surrey ain’t the same as a cold day in the lakes !

I did it last year… Loved it .

Fingers crossed for better weather this year for you… Though all part of achievement!

Jeez man your getting all bear grylls again. I did actually say superglue is fine….but the reason it’s use is not widely advised upon is because to certain folk and using certain products it can have a negative reaction.

Not everyone is as ‘bear or ard’ as you mate..evolution will one day allow you to reach the point of rational thinking that some of us have reached.

You will learn that ‘fight or flight’ is great for getting you away from nasty animal – but that hurty finger of horas requires a bit more thought than fighting or flighting.

Superglue in General is fine but you can’t guarantee it’s sterility, it also gets hot wheras medical glue sets without such a violent ‘hot’ chemical reaction.

Hora is a tad too late to be messing around with DIY fixes

Without seeing it difficult to say.

But if wound already infected and i’m guessing it’s already a few days old… I’d suggest that the wound edges are gaff and so the wound will not seal/ heal properly.

    May need debriding.

For the sake of a few hours go get it professionally sorted!

As a paramedic who has spent nearly 20 years driving past our local main fire station and seeing the fire trucks almost constantly parked up and the fire bods tucked up for the night… I don’t think that I’ve worked a shift and not thought…

I should have been a fireman!

The front panels are back with a rubberised panel to the rear. If you rub the grin panel and rear ( inner) panel they slide.

    If that helps ?

    Cheers guys..

I like the idea of sewing a middle panel. My only reservation is that the material is double backed and it would mean sewing through the rubberised backing? Hmmmm

    Re the impact on riding..

To be honest .. I still ride 2 days a week though I’m fortunate not only with my partner but also with my shift patterns at work which whilst being tiring, allow me large stints of quality time with my family.

I used to disappear at least once a month on a trip – as I found myself kicking around a lot waiting for my other half to finish work. That certainly hasn’t happened since my son arrived..

    Do I miss it… ? Sure

But now I just can’t wait till I can share it all with my lad.

Ah the classic Christmas party scenario

One person lets their hair down whilst everyone at the time revels in your antics.

Next day everyone gossiping about how wild and inappropriate you were.

Personally I’d not go and go out with mates instead.
