Always been the rule in our house: if you’re on bike / scooter then you wear a helmet.

Very glad of it too. At Christmas lad lost control of his bike, hit a neighbour’s garage door at about 20mph. Smashed his helmet to bits and put a massive dent in the door (which we need to replace). A&E confirmed he was fine other than a bit of a battering.

Next day, went to Halfords and found a perfect Met helmet a bit like mine that fits a treat and cost £5. At that sort of money, you’d be a bit mad not to wear one.

    I do wish I could get a garage door for £5 tho….

Cool isn’t it!? Takes me back to days of work experience in the bike shop!

Thanks for the help. If there are any takers here, my email is in profile. Otherwise expect to see it on retro biking website near you soon!

Nice. For those who like that song see if you can hunt down a version of it by Dustin the Turkey. It’s called where do you go to you’re ugly and is hilarious, as are most of his songs…

you went for a 12 hour ride and now you feel tired? Who’d have thought it ;p

Seriously: don’t forget that the weather can make a big difference. 12 hours freezing your nuts off will likely be a lot harder than the event itself*

*assuming we don’t end up with continuing silly weather

Thanks Neil. With the price of seal kits I don’t really want a ‘might’ option and I know that Dart’s aren’t nearly posh enough for my LBS to stock those! I awiat a response from Fisher…

+ yet another for kiddy decathlon helmets. Cheap, not too heavy and last well. My boy only just finished with his at 5 when he smashed into a garage door at Christmas.

Anyway…. I’m afraid you’ll need to wait ages yet. I knew a few guys at Bell in the US when the boy was tiny and they INSISTED that I wait until 18 months. For seats, ebay’s the way because loads of people sell after hardly using.

Horse riders. Until I remind them that the footpath they like up the side of my house is on my land, and if they continue to behave in an irresponsible manner I’ll put a style / unhorsefiendly gate across it. That would mean hey have to go another 1/4 of a mile or so round to get to their stinking stables.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh. that explains it. not been on here for ages so not seen anything about crc probs. It would explain the attempted £3k on my card just after I bought some stuff a few weeks ago. Thank you for the unintentional help!

"Not sure you need a triple chainset really "

If you'd seen how steep the hill I live on is, you'd know I need a triple! Plus in all likelihood I'll have a sporg on the back of it from time to time

Focus = good call. *goes to wiggle website*

WTF… ‘course a 6 inch bike can be under 30lb. I weighed my Reign on a mate’s Park digi scale at the weekend. I expected it to be 35lb plus but it is 32lb. And that’s with a set of ‘zocchi All Mountains on it. with a set of lighter forks and a very small sprinkling of bling it could easily be way under 30lb without costing a fortune.

Conversely my ‘light’ hardtail turned out to be 26lb. It has a light frame, light wheels and light forks. It feels very light to ride. Thus proving weight is more important in some areas than others…

ooh. Like this question because…. Litech frame came in at 3.3lb before it went off for its respray. With my shiny new reba teams, bonty wheels and half decent finishing kit it should come out as a nice comfy chuckable 25ish lb beast 🙂

I bought my King rear hub 10 years ago. I bought it because, at the time, I was getting through an LX freehub every 6 months so figured in the long run the Ck would be cheaper.

I was right: it’s still going strong after stupid amount of abuse. It’s just outlasted its 3rd rim. Sevriced every couple of years, but only had bearing replacement once. It has also outlasted my Pro2, on which the bearings and freehub have both died.

Conclusion? If you possibly can buy King or similar. it’s cheaper in the long run and you get to ride some nice bling kit as a bonus.

Another Deuter vote here. Very good, fairly cheap and widely available (including decathlon). Unfortunately kiddo now won’t sit still for long enough for it to be much use…
