MrFish is always very impressed when I return home after a cold ride and rub my soggy beard all over her face.

Don’t know about the RedRocks but I have the Notch to wear over padded shorts. They are lightweight, cool in warm weather and also dry out pretty quickly when damp. They are farily robust although I did manage to rip one of the pockets when crashing (though this was due to the bunch of keys I was carrying!)

Being ‘stocky’…I find well-fitting shorts hard to come by. I have a 34″ waist and find the large size Notch very comfortable. They have no front pockets and use an elasticated waist. Can’t really think of anything else to say about them. I liked them enough to buy another pair. Hope this helps.

Waiting with baited breath for a Brodie Holeshot Ti to hit the doormat, assuming the postie can fit it through the letterbox.

I bought a pair of Iodines in April 2010. The pawl carrier failed in October during an icy, pish-wet day at Afan. Luckily(!) for me, I was already three-quarters of the way round the W2, meaning there wasn’t so much pushing to do back to the car park. I was ever so slightly annoyed…

The pawl carrier and freewheel were replaced under warranty with updated versions, but it’s too early to say if they’re more robust then the originals.

I was near Newcastle Emlyn last weekend. The powers that be had made a great job of gritting the main roads. Even with the dump of snow on Friday/Saturday, most A/B roads were well clear.

Side roads & country lanes were a different matter though!

I bought a 5 year old 1.6 Focus and drove it without issue for another 5 years. I would probably still be driving it now if Babyfish hadn’t arrived (it was a 3-door model).

It’s a “tut” of ramblers, surely?

How about a knobble of mountain bikers?

Not scoliosis related but, was your daughter a breech birth? The reason I ask is that I was told by our daughter’s doctor that the hip ultrasound is routine for all breech babies.

I’d give the orthopedic consultant’s office a call and get some confirmation of what they are expecting.

OK, thanks. I’ll mull it over, so late Jan is more realistic anyway. Are you expecting a rush on orders?

I have the standard Celsius. They’re pretty warm as long as you don’t let water get in over the top.

3 years ago, I was in the same quandary. Today, I’m still riding my Soda and still loving it.

A new set of sintered pads lasted until just before the end of the W2 trail at a (very) wet, sandy Afan on Thursday. Descending the Wall with just a front brake was ‘interesting’.

I had the same issue with my flat-roofed garage. I bought a load of 50mm polystyrene sheets from B&Q and lined the underside of the roof. Job done.

I use a Pragmasis 16mm chain, Torq ground anchor and chunky squire padlock. A 2m long chain is ample for 3 bikes. Try http://www.torc-anchors.com

Finished my morning pootle with a blast through Ashton Court today. The Small Block 8s will be fine. It’s all pretty dry over that way at the moment. Mind you, 10 minutes of rain and it’ll be transformed into squelching, slidy, root-tastic fun.

Have got on well fit-wise with a pair of Spesh Tahos, but now looking for something with a stiffer sole. Will get myself off to my local Spesh 'Concept' store, hopefully find a suitable shoe & then haggle!

I don't remember seeing any Bonty shoes in any local bike shops. Will try and check them out too.

Once upon a time, Shimano also produced some decent fat-footed shoes. Doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

I use one of these with pannier bags on my hardtail commuter – cheap & effective. Oh, and it's not QR.

Fred Baker Cycles, Cheltenham Road did my bike fitting a few years ago. They waived the fee when I subsequently bought a bike from them.

Save for the updated cycle path from Muller Road to St Werburghs, I have not seen any significant additions to the cycling infrastructure. Bristol City Council are looking to save millions this year. If they can't match the £11m of Cycling City funding provided, they will be asked to hand the money back. This would be a sad indictment (and a true reflection) of the powers that be in Bristol.

I wouldn't use statistics as a deciding factor. I say go ahead and commute. There are things you can do to help reduce your chances of being squashed such as hi-viz clothing, decent lights, choice of route etc. Given you're doing this for health reasons, maybe you should start quoting heart disease figures for the UK…

Fred Bakers on Cheltenham Road did a 'proper' bike fiting for me a couple of years ago, involving lots of measuring of arms/legs etc. There was a charge but they refunded me as I bought a bike there. Plus you can use the bike fitting measurements at another shop when you (inevitably) buy your 'next' road bike…

    Blaise Castle estate?

Watch out for the feral youths on/near Crow Lane. They recently attempted to rob my pal of his Spesh Enduro by throwing another bike at him(!) as he rode past. Fortunately they were unsuccessful.
