GT72 – thanks for the response.

It sounds like you routinely destroy rear hubs then! I’m 90kg myself but am no downhill nutcase. I’ve run a CK rear hub for a few years (steel driveshell) and found it to be pretty solid (although to be fair the initial bedding in did involve tightening the pre-load collar…)

I suppose the other thing question is the availability of spares. How long did take to turn around your repairs?

The appointed “Diversity Champion” in our office, upon seeing one of her male staff wearing a pink shirt, was recently heard saying “Oh my god, you’re such a gayer”.

Also heard repeatedly on a conference call this week was a chap describing exporting data from an application as “sucking it off the system”.

“Farming the base” is also one of my favourites.

I’ve been looking at these wheels for a while and the half-price offer looks good value. You say that you’ve run them for 12 months and you’ve already had a bearing issue twice. Do you expect (and accept) that the rear wheel will need replacement bearings/axle/pre-load adjuster twice a year, every year? Once the 2 year guarantee runs out, how much do you expect to pay to maintain them? I just don’t understand how that rate of failure on a £2k wheelset is acceptable!

    Interested to hear your views.

The virus is active again, which I believe means your immune system is a bit below par? Riding 200 miles will not help it recover.

Weren’t they talking about running one of these bus routes along the Bristol-Bath cyclepath as well at one point?

That proposal was so ridiculous it involved the compulsory purchasing of gardens belong to people whose houses back onto the path.

My mate recently ordered himself a new road bike from Rose. Nice bike, good price but a 6 week turnaround time. I’ve used their website for ordering kit. No complaints there.

Stuff the rules: they are made to be broken. I’ve had a Van Nicholas Yukon for 5 years. Triple chainset, occasional mudguards, occasional pannier rack. I even ride it wearing baggies, and I’ve got bad facial hair. So there.

I love the fact that in 5 years, aside from buying some new, flashier wheels, all I’ve replaced are the brake pads (3 times), the chain (once) and a few sets of tyres.

…just eat decent home cooked food.
    Do some exercise.
    Don’t snack.

Seems to work for me. 10 lbs down in 3 weeks. 10 lbs to go. I don’t intend to go back to snacking on sugary cr*p and eating processed junk. Well, maybe the odd takeaway 😈

    Parents/Grandparents/Great grandparents (except for 1) – Wales

The exception was my maternal grandfather’s father who was from Zummerzet (which may or may not explain my liking for cider).

Legend has it he was one of them druid types (which may or may not explain my beard)

sounds to simple (and possibly boring) but I just avoid the pub.

This worked for me too, although the arrival of Baby Boxfish helped somewhat…

In order for me to break a habit, I have to remove myself from situations where I’m likely to ‘partake’. At least until I’m confident I have the self-control!

People talk about cannabis being a gateway drug. It’s nothing compared to booze.

Cheers wwwas. As if by magic, I’ve just done it.

    Something like this:

    1. Put both halves of the knurled clamp in the post, holding them apart
    2. Slide one seat rail in diagonally in between the clamp halves (if that makes sense?)
    3. Then prise the jaws open using a suitable piece of cutlery whilst rotating the saddle so the other rail clicks into place.

Ironically, once fitted, the whole thing seems really loose until you tighten the bolts!

Looks like a privet hawk moth to me too. We had one of the caterpillars in our front garden. Fat bugger it was! Not my picture though.

The only thing that worked for me was swapping from a QR clamp to a bolt through. Not ideal if you’re a frequent post dropper!

Weekly weigh-in every weekend here. Since ditching the refined sugar (and now paying attention to portion size) I’ve lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. Another 14 lb to lose and I’ll be back to my fighting weight. Grrr.

ATB were great when my 2005 Whyte 19 developed cracks after 18 months use. I popped the frame into my LBS (where I bought it) and 48 hours later a replacement frame was waiting for me.

A whoopee cushion from my almost-3-year-old daughter, then a family bike ride, followed by lunch in the sun (roast pork roll, mmmm). Late afternoon spent cleaning/fettling bikes in the sunny back garden. All in all, a successful day.

16 mm will require an angle grinder and your frame still needs just a hacksaw

That’s true. I have a 16mm chain and ground anchor and can confirm from experience that my lovely Brodie Holeshot Ti frame required only a hacksaw. 🙁
