Don’t worry, your wife will read this thread and her mind will be put at rest. Probably.

What’s the difference between summer mud and winter mud?

    Summer mud is wetter

To echo theroadwarrior, make sure you doubly wrap your front disc & caliper before spraying.

Neil, it was around 6 when I saw those fellas.

These weren’t kids. I counted 4 blokes in their 20s-30s who stopped in their tracks as they heard me approach. One of them said something to the others, and they all turned their attention to me. That’s what made me feel uneasy.

I’m not necessarily talking about being followed home. I take considerable precautions to avoid that these days. I’m talking about being mugged for my bike. A rare occurrence but one I’d prefer to avoid.

I do usually ride with a mate or two. I am no stranger to night riding up there by myself though. Guess I just got the heebie jeebies!

Among the multitude of alarms and locks I use to secure my bikes is a Pragmasis 16mm chain. I’m pretty sure an angle grinder would cut it but, put it this way, the thieving barstewards preferred to cut a section out of a lovely Ti frame instead.

Recently built up some non-exploding Chinese carbon rims with DT 240s hubs. They came in a smidgen over 1500g and are stiffer than a stiff thing. Total cost about £500. Not the cheapest or lightest but had to scratch the carbon itch.

Funny blog. Which RockShox forks are those?

Make sure all is secure when you go on holiday. We recently came back from a sunny two weeks to find we’d been burgled 👿

OP – Your measurements are close to mine. I found that an Endura Venturi II in Large fitted well, if slightly too long in the body.

Having tried a few pieces of Gore clothing, I don’t even bother anymore. They don’t do chunky/stocky/fat*, except maybe for socks…

I service my own bikes – that saves a huge amount of money.

Except for clothing, which I mostly buy from LBSs, I have no rules regarding buying from internet or high street retailers. Price is often but not always the determining factor. My LBS recently beat the big internet guys on price for a set of 2013 Ksyrium Elites. I thought that was most decent of them. I can also confirm that my LBS mechanics will readily accept biscuits in return for bike/wheel boxes.

you’ll need some day glow lycra and purple bar ends to complete the 90’s look

To be fair, my Lowe Alpine bum bag was purchased in the 90s!

    I have 2!!

One is an ancient Lowe Alpine waist pack. It’s just a simple single compartment with a zipped pocket for keys.

The other is a North Face Mt Biker which I use for longer, wetter rides. It’s bigger, with two separate, zipped compartments and two mesh side pockets for holding water bottles.

    HERE

To be honest, TNF one is a bit on the big side and I can cram a lot in there. For example, I’m out for a ride after work tonight and I was able to easily fit my lunch, work clothes, tools, pump, wallet, phone, water bottle etc etc with my coat strapped to the top.

Yup, for most rides under 4 hours I’ll use a bum bag/fanny pack/arse parcel.

When we first moved in, we dubbed our local shop “The Inconvenience Store” as it’s opening times were a bit odd. However, we now use it for bread, milk, booze, snacks and sundries. That may be largely because it’s less than 60 seconds walk from our front door… However, they’re open early, they shut late and the happy chap who works there is into bikes & cycling. Winner!
