    brute force is not enough

No, on it’s own it isn’t, but if you have known vulnerabilities then processing oomph enables quicker exploitation of the holes.

Not shocking, really. Moore’s law ensures the vulnerability of electronic comms to surveillance. Email is about as secure as the Post Office.

I will shortly be selling some R650s if you are interested in 2nd hand calipers. They have have nearly new SwissStop green pads fitted.

People actually worry about wheel size? ❓

Yup. 3 hours haring around the woods this afternoon.

    It’s a bit dusty out there… 😀

54 plate 1.6 petrol here, 49k on the clock. Had it for 5 years. New front disks and tyres in that time. Very reliable so far. Crap economy though ( low 30s)

“I don’t want to go home now, daddy. I want to ride my bike really far.”

This is what I’m hearing from my 4-year old daughter at the moment. 😀

Is tubeless 100% foolproof on these rims with normal tubeless ready tyres (not UST) and some normal tubeless tape?

Yup. Currently using Spesh 2Bliss TR Ground Control. Had to put a tube in overnight to initially seat the bead though.

    Me:

    Spesh Tahoe – 42
    Bontrager MOuntain RL – 42
    Northwave Celsius – 42

So, in conclusion the answer is 42.

EDIT: I also have wide feet

Built up a set of the wider 26″ rims on DT240s hubs last year. They’ve been great so far. No signs of impending explosions or imminent death.

    There are tricky rim/tyre combinations.

If the bead does not initally seat with a track pump, I do the following:

    1. Neat washing-up liquid on the bead
    2. Put in a tube, inflate to 50psi and leave overnight
    3. Pop off one side of the bead, remove tube, replace valve, chuck in sealant and up she goes…

I reckon it’s definitely worth persisting with it. Without wanting to tempt fate, I’ve had one flat tyre in what must be 5 years of tubelessness.

That’s on a variety of UST/tubless-ready rim/tyre combinations, all inflated with a track pump.

I had this problem with a fresh-out-of-the-box Schwalbe tyre. The retailer refunded without a quibble.

Being chunkily-thighed I struggle to find comfortable shorts. Have been wearing Mavic Notch shorts for a few years. Very comfortable they are too.

Do you mean when they are in the intermediate setting?

Good question as I’ve never measured it! From memory, it’s probably between 40-60mm of drop…don’t quote me on that!

They will lock out when fully, or partially extended, if that makes sense?

Yup. Got them on my hardtail. Just had them serviced after 18 months. TFTuned said they were in excellent condition inside. Very happy so far. I rarely use the travel drop. Mostly leave them open or locked out.

Did a ride through Bath recently and out along the Two Tunnels Greenway. We stopped at the old station in Midford and got chatting to a couple of old fellas there. Turned out they both worked on the railways there back in the 1950s.

As it happened, they were at Midford that day to meet up with a load of colleagues from the railways and had a folder of old photos with them. We spent a good while chatting while they reminisced and showed us a pictorial record of their careers on the railways.

It was fascinating stuff. Of course, they lamented the loss of the lines due to Beeching but they seemed genuinely pleased that the routes at least we back in use as cycle paths. 🙂

I bought a set of the original Iodine wheels. The freehub exploded within a few months. It was repaired under warranty and I sold them soon after.

Also, they had very poorly sealed bearings (needed to be cleaned after every wet ride, especially the rear). There were also compatability issues with certain cassettes.

I won’t touch CB stuff now, either.

and do it outdoors wearing a mask.

That can be a bit impractical, especially when the cutting guide is vice-mounted and the vice is bolted to a workbench!

I’ve done a couple in the garage (mask on) and swept up/binned the resulting dust. Hopefully I will not suffer a carbon-dust related demise…

One of the kids from next door crashed his bike into my car last year leaving a small dent and a few scratches. Once I’d established the lad was OK, I made sure his bike was undamaged. The car? It still works.

Obviously, it would be a different story if he touched my bikes 😀
