That bit where the teachers are looking out of the staff room window perving over the pupil crossing the playground is a bit disturbing tho…
Grew up in Cumbernauld, a few mates got bit parts in the football team, my parents taught at the school (now demolished)

Flatlander, that’s the ridge route that runs north from roc de fer above Meribel, it was the best thing we did all week. Fantastic long, flowing descent, bit of a tough pedal and push up tho.

Some inspirational stuff on here for sure!

Thanks to all, On One got my cash for a couple of Phaarts and a Smart Lunar.

Re the Bay, there’s plenty there but no cheapish ones that obviously use clips except the aforementioned unreliable ones (in my experience only) for £1 or so.

Waits to be proved wrong rapidly… :D

Thanks for the many interesting suggestions, lots I’d never heard of. The piece is for a trade mag called The Manufacturer so it’s probably more about how the bike/component is made than anything else – 3D printing, clever CNC, some kind of innovation in the use of carbon – and done in the UK. Superstar reshoring at least some of their production is spot on for this, maybe not particularly innovative but a very current topic of interest for manufacturing.

Here’s one[/url] they ran a couple of months back on ST’s favourite trouser company.

Great stuff so far, thanks. Robot and Olsen completely new to me, Superstar, Renthal and other component outfits well worth a mention. This could be a long list.

Also 5’10” and my medium Scale 735 is just big enough for me but not cramped, love it. Like they say, you’ve got to try both sizes.

Rode one for a week in India 20 odd years ago, it was grim. Dog slow, terrible brakes – my mate’s Yamaha 100 was far better in every way. But if you’re after a plodder, I guess it has a certain (remanufactured) olde worlde charm. I’d go for a genuine vintage classic instead.

Nice one, a much better vantage point for the picture. Think I was enjoying the descent too much to stop later on :-)

One more shot, this time above the start of the Loch Muick descent.

Did the Lochnager/Callater loop a couple of years back which was amazing, want to explore more of the routes linking Jock’s Road and the various tops west of Glendoll – as detailed in some older threads on here.

Can find a gpx here for the classic Capel Mounth route.

Ah, forgot to change the filename! Never mind, it’s still a lovely spot. And yes, it’s a cracking descent, just one of the highlights in that area.

Interesting suggestion, not sure I want to be an early adopter for that technology tho it certainly does make installation convenient. Think IR cable thru the whole frame is the way to go but the Command Post IRcc looks quite a bit more complex to service than my old original. More home working browsing to do.

Excellent, thanks! Ssmith, your method is exactly what I was thinking of doing. If a Fox works then a Command Post IR should work too.

Pridds, sounds like you have done the same thing but taken the cable out of the seatpost for an externally routed post? Did you have to drill the boss or just take the bolt out?

Looks like the IR is the way to go, anyone else?

Just to round this one off, I got the axle from B-s today and it fits the new dropouts perfectly. Many thanks to him and Bearback, questions answered and axle sourced in one thread – gotta love this place!

Yes, I’ve got the standard Scott 5mm bolt-up skewer with a QR hub on the back at the moment. The DT Swiss X-Lock looks like it should work (1mm thread pitch, flat washer) but your suggestion to look for a Syncros is the safest bet I guess. Might wait til my dropouts are on and the wheel arrives, then take it into the nearest Scott dealer to see what fits. Or buy the X-Lock from CRC and send it back if it doesn’t fit…

Thanks for the replies, think I was off to bed by the time they came in. The drop outs don’t come with an axle sadly.

Bearback, there seem to multiple RWS axles out there. My confusion mostly stems from a guy who posted on the Chain Reaction site saying that neither the DT Swiss X-lock (wrong thread) or the DT Swiss X-12 RWS (conical washer) fitted his Scott.

Take a look, he’s even posted a picture that seems to show neither DT Swiss axle works. Even though the CRC specs say both axles are 1mm thread pitch…

Snap! I just bought one of those wheels but am going the other route and changing my dropouts to 142×12. Hence my post above on finding the right axle…

Had a Google around but no info on converting these hubs to QR I could see, hope someone else can help.

Use a heat gun to break the loctite bond, then 2 small pin spanners to get it off. Plenty of advice on old threads and vids too.

Thanks, much appreciated, only other question is best way to hold it in the vice? Need to wrap it in something thick, soft and grippy to protect it, lots of plastic carton lids maybe.

Was looking at reverbs myself last night, tempting :D

Those shocks that Dave listed on eBay look great but seem wrong length – 216×63.5mm is enduro rather than SJ I think. Haven’t measured mine as yet but old STW thread lists 2011 SJ Triad as 200 x 50mm.

Re what trusty said about tuning the Triad itself, read that its valving is so crude that it’s not worth it?

So looks like – buy an RP23 and get it turned into a compatible one by Mojo for £100 – sounds worthwhile, maybe get it tuned at the same time.

Final option is a newer shock off a 2013 or 2014 SJ, but are these compatible in stroke and e-e length?

Didn’t want to do any work today anyway!

Thanks all, much appreciated. Dave, am browsing ebay tho not found those shocks as yet. Does seem to be a Monarch rc3 option but maybe not in uk so far as rene said, will give the suspension shops a bell tomorrow. Re that special adaptor, saw that in an old thread that someone had drawn up a 3d model to make one from, might be worth chasing him up.

Second that re Snake Pass, never again!

Shame cos the loop round from Hadfield via Cut Gate and Doctor’s Gate is otherwise brilliant.

Now it’s moving, switch to WD40 as that’ll lube it better than PlusGas or whatever. Gentle working of the bolt should let it seep into the thread.

Whether or not it’s bent, better to take it out first rather than trying to screw it in any further so you can see if there’s any damage to the threads. Then decide if you need to run a tap into the alloy (careful!) or need a new bolt.

Had a look around and seems to be a fixed 10285 tile limit for downloading and saving OSM data from Viewranger. No way I can see to change this, altering the cache size makes no difference.

Looks like you can download the whole dataset in various formats direct from OSM but then you have to make it work with ViewRanger – which doesn’t appear to be a trivial task after a brief glance at their tech spec.

Ah well, ta for the suggestions, will post if I find a way to do it. My neighbour is a bit of a GIS expert, will tap him.
