I did look at an orange 5 before I realised how good my current enduro was and decided to keep it.

The main reason for nit getting the 5 at the time was the fact that I weigh just under 300lbs and the shock was not able to be pumped up to a sufficient pressure for this weight. Is there a widget or something mojo can fit to resolve this?

I'm worried that one day I'll break mine and will be gutted when spesh replace it with a brand new model frame.

2005/2006 specialized enduro. There has never been a bike before or since that rides as good as it IMO

As you would have seen from the pics on your other enduro thread, I have a DHX5 cool on mine and it's excellent. The ou two slight issues are as follows:

1 weight – I run an 800lbs spring as I'm over 20 stone. The highest rate Ti spring available is 600 do I'm stuck with steel! Having said that the whole bike comes in at 36lbs which isn't woefully heavy.

2 on the fly adjustment is fiddly. Generally the linkage us pretty inactive anyway due to the excellent horst linkage, however on long Tarmac/fireroad climbs it does help to wind the propedal & rebound damping up and this means twiddling 2 dials, the smaller of which ( rebound damping) is nigh on impossible with long fingered gloves on.

Those IMO are minor gripes but for your weight (3 stone lighter than me) a 600 ti spring should suffice if you want to go down that route.

Overall the bike is fantastic and apart from the handicap of the weight on big long climbs it's great on technical climbs as just bulldozes over obstacles to get you out of trouble. Downhill. Well no need to say anything there the best bike I've ever ridden without doubt. The coil really enhances the plushness you will be used to with the 5e shock.

I concur…. No brainer. Get it.

I broke 3 of these in the space of 6 months. Specialized kept replacing them then after the 3rd one I asked yo' be upgraded to a DHX as the next years (2006) biked had the fox shock. I was told that specialized had a stock of the 5th element units left and would only "fox me up" when they har run out. So I agreed to pay the price difference (about £100) and they upgrade me. I decided on a DHX 5.0 coil and the difference was incredible.

As 5th eleny have piled out of the MTB Market getting spares may be tricky.

Search eBay/STW etc for a 2nd hand fox is my suggestion.

    Renton,

I've been through exactly the same dilemma! You might have seen my post looking to sell my 2005/6 enduro as, again I felt it too heavy t 36lbs. Here I'm a substantial fella at 21 stone.

I've tried other bikes and can honestly say that whilst this bike is a lump it still climbs well and descends better than anything else I've tried. A classic frame which Spesh have failed to replicate since IMHO.

My point is that I've been through the same as you and the outcome is…. I'm keeping the beast! I'd urge you to do the same.

The 2005/06 enduro is the best frame ever made IMHO. a bit heavy yes so depends on what you want I suppose.

Mine has the flattened chainstay…. No lumphammer work needed!

That front hose does look short! It's the camera angle as I have longer forks now and still have plenty of slack.

Got to be the 2005/06 Specialized Enduro. I've tested loads of new "all mountain" bikes and have to say that it is so much better than any of them. Awesome.

I went from SPDs to mallets which at the time I thought was ok. It was not until one of the spindles broke and I went back to my old SPD that I realised that the Shimano clip in/out is far smoother. I now run SPD on both bikes with no intention to change.

This has probably been mentioned before on this thread but this lumen arms race is getting silly!

I have a pair of ayups I think 600ish lumens in total. I cant imagine needing more? surely the point of night riding is that it brings different thrills & challenges to day riding. I you're off out with 3000 lumens why not just ride in the daylight!

The drop offs at Cwmcarn were removed a couple of months ago. Just a couple of weeks ago the wall ride was removed also. Hence the "freeride" section now just has some doubles & mounds…. Really sad.

But the 04 enduro was not a patch on the 05/06 version. Completely different bike. The 04 was more what the stumpjumper is now.

Agree tho the 05/06 version is awesome & spesh have never really replicated it. My 800 steel spring probably adds a couple of pounds on the DHX air. It's incredibly plush though.

Not bought anything yet! Mojo confirmed that the RP23 shock on the 5 would be overloaded with my weight. So looking at the Alpine 160. See my other thread!

This is my current bike, the bike suits my riding perfectly apart from, like I said the weight and (if i'm honest the want to buy a new bike as i've had this nearly 5 years)

The goal for me is simply to have a cracking trail bike, fun on the downs that is light enough for me to ride all day and will not snap with my weight.

My current enduro ticks all boxes apart from being too heavy for all day riding.

I love it when people post on here pissed.

It's not essential to get the build down to 30lbs as one of my feet weigh more! I was simply curious as the MBR review stated under 32lbs with bashguard etc. Simply going to transfer the kit from my current enduro.

The five suits my riding style better but the concern is that I'll break the shock or frame. If my bike shop are correct and there is only 1/2 of a pound difference then the alpine is a viable option.

If it was going to come in at 36+ then I may as well just keep the enduro!

The enduro is just that bit too heavy for all day riding. (and 5 years old so I'm looking for an excuse) Tbh the alpine looks just the ticket for me. Watch this space.

The reason I asked is that the MBR tested stock version came in at 31.8lbs and that was not particularly high specced.

Here's mine, love it. Did have a maxlight XC 120, hated the short top tube & steep head angle. Thus suits me down to the ground.

The pic shows marzocchi bombers MX120LO now have Fox float 140RL on the bike.

Oh well won't let me post pics from my facebook account via iPhone. I'll post later.

Thanks for the replies guys, as a friend said to me it looks like it's a marmite bike, but on the plus most are lovers not haters!

I had looked into other options, 2010 Spesh enduro, 2010 trek remedy, yeti 575, intense tracer, Santa cruz nomad, lapierre spicy

the intense, trek & specialized being front of the list of I don't go for the Orange.

I will take advice and take out a test bike but hope I can get an "AM" version to test as this will mirror the geometery ofy setup.
