    £40 every year????

My first FSA orbit XL11 is 5 years old and hasn’t been touched. You can get them on ebay for £20. I have 4 of them going strong on bikes and never touched any of them.

IMO CK is just paying for the name.

Don’t do the CB ones! I’ve had about eight as I kept having to return them because they don’t work if they get muddy, gritty, cold, hot, damp or used in any conditions other than indoors at 18′ and 50% humidity.

On the other hand my Road Morph just works. I use it for MTB and road and 120psi is easy. On my cross bike it gets attached to the frame and covered in mud and grime and it still works whatever. Oh, and it goes in my MTB pack with no problems.

People will laugh, but I got a Halfords own brand 24v job. I’ve had it for years, it’s done loads of work and has never let me down. And for £30 , what the hell!

Giant Trance and Scott Genius both felt horrible. Slow, uninspiring, made me feel I’d rather walk.

Then I got on a Spesh Epic and it felt like it had an engine. Fantastic. Fast and feels so surefooted. So I bought one :-)

If it’s not too far away then the Bedgebury bike club is pretty active.

    An alternative is:

    http://www.mccoffroad.co.uk/
but I haven’t done anything with them in ages. Supposed to be good though.

    A final suggestion is:
    http://www.sanfairyanncc.co.uk/?pageid=1
They are mainly a road club, but do have an active offroad section as well.

I’m in Maidstone myself, but not very active at the moment :-(

His programme on dodgy selling practices of cigarettes in Africa was good. He came across as someone with a lot more morals and passion than a lot of high flying business people.

    Cool thread.

I’m now in my 15th month off work due to deep depression and anxiety. Following a life changing situation which has left me a shadow of my former self. The main thing I have learned is how many people have been or are in a similar situation. It seems those who it hasn’t hit are in the minority some days. I won’t offer any advice as it’s all been said, and certainly MTFU is not in any way helpful.

Just bear in mind you are not alone, and people can and do recover.

The different axle length is to fit the cranks, so as long as he buys a frame with a 68mm bb shell, the bottom bracket and cranks will be fine.

    boriselbrus

Yes it will fit. Yes it will be fine.

I like it as it is. Nice and simple. The worst forum is MTBR – a thousand different classifications, avatars, signatures, and the stupid quote thing means that half is each page is people quoting people quoting people. Absolute rubbish!

The issue with the races in the 80’s with cars running out of fuel was that a fuel limit of 220 litres (then 195 litres) was put on the turbo cars as a way of limiting the turbo power. If there are no restrictions on how much fuel you can carry, it should be great as the cars will handle very differently as the fuel load gets less. So some cars will start fast and be caught by other cars which handle better on low fuel loads.

And of course, overtaking on the track, not in the pits.

    Hurrah!

I did this recently and after a LOT of research went for the Samsung. Very happy with it.

Get a KMC chain. Better shifting, longer lasting, less snapping.

    IMO obviously!

I use the Specialized ones, and yes it’s worth the time and money on long rides. Also used on my cross bike and wouldn’t be without it.

Pretty much right RS. I have an Epic and a Stumpy. The Epic gets used for long all day rides as it’s a little lighter and a lot more efficient. If I’m going to Lakes/Peaks/Scotland then the Stumpy comes with me.

Bloody hell Ballsofcottonwool. Fortunately my cranks are not the hollow ones, and there is a LOT more metal left than the ones in your pic!

    LOL!

Firstly, not photoshopped. Anyone near Kent is welcome to come and have a look at them.

Secondly, no the weight saving is not huge, but the Wanga was the heaviest bike I own – heavier than my two FS bikes so I thought it had to go on a diet. Changing forks (Rebas for Toras), grips, stem, cassette and the cranks lost 2kg and makes the bike noticeably nicer to ride. Total cost once I sold the old bits was about £120. Worth every penny at the moment.

Thirdly I do use a TA unramped chainring, but the chain still occasionally came off. I also took the grinder to the chain device… :-)

And finally, my 20 stone mate has never broken a set of these cranks, having removed less than a third of the weight from the arms, I’m quite happy that my 10 stone weight will be fine!

The hole is central, it’s a bit of an optical illusion. I’ve been off a half metre drop with them, but if (when:-) ) they snap, I won’t really have lost anything – assuming they don’t stick in my leg!

2kg of fat loss is equivalent to a net energy loss of 18000 calories (fat is 9 calories per gramme). So my money is on a 2 litre water loss. Ergo, you haven’t lost weight, you are dehydrated.

Comet would only price match shops within a 5 mile radius with the goods in stock when I tried in January. So I went home and bought my Tv on line for £300 delivered compared to Comets £350. The bloke in Comet was also really arsy about it as well.

Take the pads out of the callipers and pump the brakes out before you start. Swap the levers over, reconnect then lever the pistons back in to the calliper. Top up with fluid and you are done.

    Hmmm.

It’s OK but over hyped. Heligan or Treverno are much better gardens. The bit that annoyed me was all the pontificating about being environmentally wonderful, when you basically have to drive to get to it and they make you exit through the gift shop which is full of rubbish which they have swapped the planets resources for. Basically it’s an OK garden with three big greenhouses in it. Oh, and the food is rubbish and very expensive.
