First ride out today and I have to say the subtle geo changes over the mk4 work much better for me. I found the 58mm v 80mm fork offset makes it much more manageable for the kinda stuff I get up to. I could be cracking up, but there must be more seat tube on this mk5 as my dropper post marks are buried deeper down in the tube and so along with the ‘less is more’ fork gives the bike a less rangy/gangly look, and this is noticeable in the ride feel. I just think Andy has got this one really dialled in.
I’m on the fence with the 27+ wheels, but I’ll give them time. I like the comfort a plus tyre offers to my aging bones but I feel a bit like I’ve lost my spidey sense without 29 inch wheels.
If you’re interested, I’m a sniff under 6’1″ with a 19.5. 25mm of spacers under a 50mm stem with Stooge moto bars with 10mm lobbed off each end. Absolutely perfect fit. I knew instantly that I’d dropped a spherical when I sold the mk4, but it seems like the planets have aligned once again.
Verdict. If you were lucky enough to get one, don’t let go of it. This is a UK first mono pressing of Sgt Peppers, and just as rare.
