I’m struggling here.

How can a pair of bar grips be priced at £100 and people buy them?

    World gone mad.

I got some dhb 3/4 ones earlier in the year. They’re brilliant for the money.

I’ll check back later with the ‘model’ name if you like?

Had Berlingos for about 10 years (3 of ’em). Can’t speak highly enough about them. OK, they’re not the most engaging vehicle to drive long distances, but the practicality is out of this world.

You don’t have to remove wheels to get a bike in, and just take the front wheels off to get 3 X 29ers in the back (with the rear seats folded). Not diesel thirsty either.

    10/10 from me.

I had that on my Van Nice Zephyr. Like Matt says, grease rear axle.

Blimey, you were right! Its Sunday evening & Sacki got back to me.

He reckons it will easily (but carefully) drill out with a 2mm drill bit.

He took my address & is gonna pop a key/switch in the post for me.

    The guys a legend :o)

    So Sacki is at Bikeyoke?

Edit: Yes he is. Just found him. Cheers I’ll pop him an email.

    LS geometry Im thinking

Yeah chapaking, I think you’ve nailed it there. Its the shorter stays on the Sherpa that are upsetting my climbing (slightly longer stays are more what Im used to).

Sorry guys. I popped a cheeky post up while at work & didn’t get chance to check back.

There aren’t really any issues as such with the Sherpa, it’s more of a ‘feel’ thing. I originally tried it with the recommended 50mm stem, but I was lifting the front everywhere when it pointed uphill (like I was riding a chopper). It’s much calmer with a 70 (or 80 – I can’t remember) stem, but it always just feels generally harder work than anything I’ve ever had before. It descends like a demon though!

Same as you. Sliding downhill in mud.

Also lost the rear going up damp rocky climbs a couple of times.

We live & learn. I’ll stick with them until it dries up a bit. If it stays damp, I’ll change ’em & put it down to experience.

    I’ve just put a 2.4 Ardent (F) & 2.3 HR2 (R) on my 29er hardtail (both on Stans Flow mk3 rims). First time I’ve tried Maxxis.

    Twice I’ve binned it.

Not overly impressed, but Summer is around the corner (he says optimistically)

After years on SDG Bel Air’s I went onto a Ti Charge Scoop, but after a few hours I could feel it. Not too uncomfortable, but I could just feel it.

Now back on SDG again (this time the mk2) and normal service has been resumed.

I wouldnt be concerned about what other people say about them, if you’re diggin’ it, that’s all that matters.

    Cool pics.

Drop Matt an email @ J-Tech & ask about extending them (or any one of the fork servicers)

Cant do pics, cos mine aren’t back until Friday.

BTW, there’s 2 finish options on the German site. Gloss with lime green decals, or matt with black stealth decals.

Yeah, they can bring ’em down to 110 or 120mm. Your choice :-)

I recently found myself in a similar mental turmoil but at the other end (of the bike – not my head), but the all comforting arms of the singletrack massive convinced me that boost was the way forward (for the industry – and the bike).

Got a call from Matt @ J-Tech this avvie.

They cant install the EVOL air shaft, but he reduced the air shaft down to 100mm (which is what I originally wanted) and changed the oil.

Obviously haven’t got them back yet, but I’m pretty impressed with the service & communications.

£20 already paid in booking a slot & a further £16 paid today (delivered back to me – and the postage will be around a tenner less if you live mainland – I’m on an island).

Total price £36 + £185 for the forks. Chuffed. Lets hope they’re not a bag of shite when I get them fitted ;-)

EDIT: I’m seriously thinking of getting another pair just to keep on the shelf for spare/replacement.

FOG, I’m not getting any younger either and with a broken wrist in my history my wrists suffer these days (hence loving the comfort of the plus tyres).

I wish I’d have got some sooner.

But, Id say look for a set on here 2nd hand to try. If theyre not for you, you can always sell ’em on at what you paid for them.

    Yeah Room 101 was good.

In truth, I haven’t bought the mag for years and as I’m not a subscriber, more an ad-hoc punter, I felt short changed with half a mag. A bit like buying Sgt Pepper, but not getting A Day In The Life.

    Cheers for that :-)

I’m the OP and apologise for my flawed question. It was very early!

    Ill expand on my indecision.

Got my eye on a Sherpa frame that can run 142 or boost (the frame’s the same, but the clever dropouts are specific)

Needless to say when a new frame is coming, budget goes out the window and its pretty much all gonna be new. So I’m gonna get a new wheelset built up with Hope Pro 4’s. The cheap German Fox 34 Rythmn has driven me to go boost up front.

Planning to run 2.6 up front & 2.4 rear on Stans Flow mk3 rims. That plan could change.

An entire new 1×11 XT groupset (inc rotors etc) can be got from CRC for £450 with a 50.4 chain line. Bizarrely a single boost XT crank is £105! Not the end of the world, but not a bargain compered to the groupset. Anyway, I also have other wheelsets (all old school QR – but can be converted as Pro 2 Evo) of geared & single speed varieties.

I can put up with forking out another £105 for a boost crank (if it’s needed), but I can guarantee that somewhere down the line Ill want to use the SS wheel and less faffing is a mantra I hold dear. There again, I may never end up swapping wheels at all.

Summary. Unsure whether to take the rear boost plunge for future proofing with the caveat that swapping wheels might be jeopardised, or stick to 142 as to date, Ive never managed to mash a wheel.

warpcow. Please stop calling me Shirley!
