    I’ve held back…. for 20 years

Just imagine how that feels spending £53-80 on shifters, considering all the years I’ve held back?

    Stache 5

Just brilliant in either plus 29/27.5

Tarn seems weight forward to me

Hmm… thought it might be something a little exotic :) Nice

Yes, it is rigid, and that is a *good* thing in certain scenarios. You have to be going at a fair rate to get the adrenalin flowing with 5+ inches of travel on demand, but the sh!t eating grin that is produced when you make a simple bike fly through a tight trail is attainable without going to a trail centre or the back country.

I think you’ve nailed it there DJ. Always like seeing your bikes – what front tyre rim combo is on the JJ above?

The SF ‘Plus’ just has more standover (I believe). It is still 23″ ETT and traditional JJ short wheelbase geo etc

It’s only those ‘new’ Plus bikes that are the longer rear and shorter reach etc

^ Was hoping there was a plus sized spaceframe, but it doesn’t look like it

The one above, although having plus on the frame is a ‘small’ spaceframe with more standover for titchy folk

Can the bike be ridden with non loop bars?

Why do you want the front end down?

    bonesetter

Agreed – I needed to make some adjustments to get balanced – layback post, shorter (went to 60) stem, wider, higher bars (Stooge Moto 800 wide with rise and backsweep) to give a more upright position

Other thing I run B+ rear with CS’s slammed at 16″ which makes the bike turn quicker/faster/easier as well as lowering the rear/BB a tad

Mine’s 21.5 and is super fast (and ‘light’) when in the flow

    Keep tweaking

I was initially underwhelmed with my stock 5

    It’s now ‘the one’ ;)

What size is your 5? I’m 89Kg’s and run 10 front (Maxxis Chronicle) and 11 rear (27.5 Bridger on Scraper)

New 29×3.0 Maxxis should be around soon.

What’s the name of the new Maxxis?

What rigid bikes have you ridden though nimo?

    bonesetter

    OK, my 2p

Stooge or Trek Stache 5 (I own both). Have been riding the Stache all summer (waiting for a larger size Stooge) and think it a brilliant bike, with loads of well thought out tech

Be sure to go high and wide on the bars (Stooge Moto bars are great) for getting the weight off your arms

I looked at the Tarn when a mate wanted a rigid ride, but thought the geo odd, in possibly a new format sales sort of way – being ‘low and long’ which I thought would equate to more weight forward, not a good thing for a rigid… but I may be wrong on that

^ Should be able to get that for £1100

Chris – yeah, just not enough factory fit grease – what’s a cartridge acb?

I should get looking quick as the new 5 has a suspension fork

I don’t think it’s the kinda place for Edrik. I’ve been going there for over 30 years – all seems fine to me :)

One thing is slightly bothering though – the anti-social behaviour after mid-night

We had just left the Rifleman’s one night over this BH weekend and got got a bottle thrown at us. 4 lads mistaking us for drug dealers trying to sell on their patch

tilly – what do you use as a Presta adapter when using accu-gauge?

Edit: oh right just looked properly and realised accu-g is presta specific

    OK, thanks

The cassette was a bugger to get off though

Interesting the mention of tightening up pretty tight to reduce the issue
