I had one, and some barsteward nicked it.

    Hey Nige,

I’ve got a Minoura one sat in the garage that i haven’t used for ages. Got it on special at Halfords for £10 a few years back. If you want to test one out feel free to borrow it as you are more likely to use it than me.

    Let me know.
    Steve

Thanks for that offer Steve, I may well take you up on it. £10 was a bargain price – who says Hellfrauds is crap?

    How’s that Rockhopper??

Flipping the bike upside down and using some carefully sellotaped pencils not an option?

I have seeen pics of this method, and i have used similar for brake rotor truing which worked…

I suppose you don’t need to take the tyre off either with this method :-)

Just removed the Clarks and they don’t seem to have worn at all in probably 2 months. Thought they had a hard lever feel to them! 8O

    Lacking power is their problem

Should it go between the stem cap and top bearing cup?

Does it function as a protection between the two interfaces?

No mate it goes round your c*ck. [8O]

    You been drinking again?!

    Yes

It’s to account for misalignment between stems and the headset, I believe

Industrial standard for interference fits is to lightly grease or oil. Or do nothing, which means lightly oiled, since all parts come that way.

Shimano BB’s out of the box have a small dab of grease on each taper surface, and a thin coat of oil all over for corrosion protection.

A lot of people do not grease, and it works fine. Keep in mind, to be truly grease or oil free, you would have to clean both surfaces with a solvent.

Square tapers get rounded & mangled for a lot of other reasons.

    However

steel spindle + alloy arm = no grease
steel spindle + steel arm = grease
    titanium spindle + any arm = anti-seize

The above seems to be another ‘skool’ of thought

No, your MB’s should NOT creak.

Lightly GREASE the tapers (facilitates an easy riding up of the tapers, and stops corrosion) and anti-seize the crank bolts. Torque the crank bolts, re-check after the first ride and then periodically afterward.

I have two sets on two different bikes and they do not creak.

EBB’s are another thread entirely though

This Shimano PRO 3-15 Nm is the one which seems to get the best reviews

I would say certain things eg sq taper crank bolts benefit from torquing, or you must have a skilled hand

Certainly looks well snappy :D Some steepish angels there. Seat angle is 74 deg’s isn’t it. Should climb like a goat. Steering should be fast too.

Be interested to know what you think of the rear single pivot suspension. My Lenz on order has the same…

I too am now running the Mud X up front to ‘cut through’ and down to the grip. When the snow was thicker I tried the Stout in front. Got it down to 12psi which worked well.

Out back I’ve stuck with a Fire XC Pro run in reverse

    Both tubeless

brakes that have been on my bikes:

    Hope M4
    Hayes Nines
    Fromula K18
    Formula K24
Formula Mega (same as the One’s)
    All with 200mm F/185 Rear

The Hayes were the weekest performers. The M4’s were better. The Formulas got better with each progression (as list).

K24’s on the HT now and Mega’s on the FS

The mega’s are OTT really – stupidly powerful

    Endura FS260

BIG Thumbs up from me. I bought the full length leg warmer version though, but the knee length will be superb too.

They’re no tighter than an equivalent lycra 3/4 short, or anything else that hugs the skin. ie. you’ll be fine!

They also feel most excellent when you’re wearing them, I don’t want to take mine off after a ride (Or should I not admit to that?) cos they feel so nice!

Ooohh, fleece lined :D I’m sold (as i can’t find SSStu’s supplier of fur & feathers lined ones)

    Cheers all

Got some Endura something or others…very good about a tenner on e bay.

Do they restrict pedalling at all – you know, make it more difficult because they’re tight?

Here’s mine. Nothing on at all. Just make sure the chain is tight, oh and use a short cage derailleur and you should be fine

Probably wont need anything. I’ve been running 1×9 for 2 years on my MTB and the chain’s never dropped once

Contact Sam at singular he can get or normally has the best stock and has tested all he sells

    Jase

Me: “I’ve just gone tubeless and the Kenda Klaw I’ve been doing well with till now wont hold up, so I’m looking for a good replacement for the sloppy stuff”

Sam: “Bontrager! Is what I’ve got to say to you. ACX or Mud X”

I explained that I had both, the ACX’s knobs were not quite deep enough for my riding/conditions and the Mud X I took off as soon I put it on because it looked so thin… He suggested I try the Mud X again as he had been using that all winter F&R.

He also sold me an Ignore he had in his garage which had been mounted but not ridden, on the cheap – so I should be sorted

Nice chap Sam – helpful and sent the tyre out when calling him at 3-30 on a Friday :-)
