I'll look into the XTR's. I've tried Hayes, Hope & lots of Formula's so want to try something different.

As for the Paradox – I'm loving it. Rear seat stays work – making a very comfortable ride – steel comfortable. All pedal force transfers into acceleration snap… blah blah – all in the review above. Very fun bike

    I'd love to but the frame's only designed for a 120 ;-)

niner have recalled all their Jet's due to weld failures. Total redesign for that frame.

I owned an 08 RIP and SIR 9, also demo'd the JET. The head angles are a little too steep for my liking. YMMV of course.

Sorry to hear about your bad weather.

Loverly looking Salsa I have to say again

Just curious, what is your weight with those 355's?

That looks super nice – and fast too. Good work.

Are you running those Bonty's in these current dry conditions? Thought you'd have gone for something a little faster rolling?

I was looking at their 29er Ti a while ago and spoke to their design chap re a custom frame. Seemed to give a bit of a hard sell, but the frames look OK to me and decent value too.

Have you looked at Burls Bikes?

Right, after a couple of phone calls the steel shed/contaianer option seems like it will be very hot in summer, and very cold and prone to condensation in winter. Also, the 'metal shed' you get from online suppliers are really only tin and very week with no floor.

Best option would seem a 3/4" thick, timber shed on a concrete base. I've found alocal supplier who makes them and plan to go down Thursday to have a look at a couple he has and find out price 8O

So it looks like you may as well have a cheaper wooden shed, as you need to securely anchor your bikes to the floor anyway…

I have just sold a SIR9 (made a mistake and went too big on sizing). Beautiful ride though. Kept it for 2 years before letting it go.

Handles everything I could throw at it, in fact the harder and faster, the more fun…

One thing, it has a 72deg HTA which can be a little twitchy on the downs

I'm using the Ignitor rear on the FS – very good indeed for grip (wet & dry), good rolling

Using a 2.2 Nevegal up front – come up like 2.4 with spades of grip, light rolling too

Racing Ralph is very good, but very fragile sidewall

I don't know how much abuse 29ers can take – I'd be interested to see how bikes like the Banshee Paradox get on in the real world. However I think you are a bit out of touch with what many people are getting up to on their mountain bikes these days. There's also the random factor that comes with trying new stuff. I've never done any jumps or drops over a few feet in height, but that's quite enough to bust spokes or trash hubs on a 26" wheel if you don't get it right.

Is the point you're making about the frames or the wheels not being up to it, as you seem to be saying both? Only askin'

I would think both are designed with the real world in mind, and as such would stand up to the same kind of 'abuse' a 26er would. Of course you pick your weapon for the intentioned terrain

    At 6' you are a 29er candidate.

And the Mythic (Banshee) Paradox may just be up your street (£399 from Freeborn)

This bike will be huge trail fun while still capable of commute duties

    I've gone for the medium (23 ETT, 17") at 6'2" :D YMMV

Do a search. There was a long discussion on this a couple of months ago. I use XO's with sealed bearings for the one wheel, which prolongs the seize on that one

    bonesetter

Seems like it's not a bike produced with across the spectrum ride appeal in mind (which would mean a mediocre). Good work (& somewhat brave too)!

Now if only it was available in the big wheels I'd be clamoring for it myself

I must say I found the Mud X to be on the thin side, esp up front when looking down on it, but during winter, and at other times – up front – it was a champ
