Been doing a back garden comparison to a Hope Vision 4.

The Trout main spread shape is half moon like, shaped downwards so as to illuminate the near field in front of you. It seems quite focused with the fill dropping off sharply past 45degrees each side of the straight ahead line. Nearfield is very well lit indeed, being very bright.

In this spread shape the Trout is similar to the Hope. The Hope's colour is quite a bit warmer, the Trout is alot whiter, and of course brighter, especially where it counts – about 3-14' in front.

The Shimano MW80 Gore-Tex Winter Boot is the best winter piece of kit I have ever bought. I went a size bigger so I could wear 2 pairs of socks too, although there is hardly a need to do this as they are so warm

These boots are better than the Lakes and all the rest of them. YMMV of course.

I wear 3/4 shorts through winter with 3/4 leggins which work for even the coldest temps

Beam shots are very difficult to take and reproduce accuracy.

The massive mtbr test last year was very well carried out by Francois, the forum founder. He used the same settings for every light he tested. This was for control, and seemed to give a fair representation of what you would you see on the trail.

The pics which stoner has posted are plainly over exposed. The centre part is completely white and burnt out.

I had a go at taking some beam shots last year comparing the Hope Vision 4, the Nightlightning iBlaast! NZ light and the L&M HID Arc. I had to tailor them on my PC to get them to look what I thought to be accurate.

Here is one of the iBlaast! which I still think is a little overexposed

Could be good for folk who don't want to go as far as the Welsh centres

Our group of 5 were over there last night (Duke William group Mr Tall, Mick Arms…) and we bumped into a fair few – one group of half a dozen at two different places – top of the camber being one and on the bridge with the statue

Was a good ride as the conditions were pretty good, with a mild and moon filled sky – nice

    Chris,

Could you please give an update to those who have not yet received their lights.

I'm not being impatient, just askin'. Do we wait for you to contact us?

I for one have not been contacted and neither have I paid the remaining 50% of the light's balance

    Cheers

No dropping problems for me. I'm using a Middleburn unramped chainring.

I use one of those too with no drop.

Also use a BB which adjusts dise to side so can get good chainline

I had a Giant XTC once and remember how much the ali frame used to beat me up…

Wouldn't have thought the seat position will make too much difference. That looks OK

Try a thudbuster and see if that makes any difference

Alu you appreciate going up, steel going down.

Like it. that is a good comparison

    bonesetter

Steel has soul. More alive feel on the trail

Sounds like mamby pamby crystal waving BS I know

Comfort – my ali frame is as comfy as my steel (has curved seat stays)

Steel may not have the 'snap' of ali

SS'ing should give you enough core conditioning – provided you're doing enough hills?

Have you seen this months WMTB – it has a bike lock/chain test

This was their winner – the Pragmasis Protector chain and Squire padlock

Although looking at your list it is better than this one!

Poor core strength is for sure one of the most common causes.

I notice some LBP (low back pain) when I'm tired and I relax my lower back when riding. As soon as the whole area is 'held' a little more firmly the pain/ache goes away.

The added bonus of the special tool is it has a 2 pin other end for undoing the crank end cap…

I've not seen the large can fitted over the standard one.

When I tried a HV on a previous bike it came as separate can you fitted by itself

I think I'll give one a whirl, as I posted a question on a MTBR thread which returned ambivalent feedback

That tool is one of the best pieces of kit I have bought.

Scewdrivers just will not do it, especially if the bolts have been together for a while.

You run the risk of losing the slot profile in the rear of the bolt and then having to drill them out

The tool just works so well

    bonesetter

Gotcha. Cheers for that, I'll give them a call

Fairly, yes. I suppose I would like a little more efficiency on pedaling, a little more travel, oh and less packing up under braking, with a sweeter feeling trail action!

Seriously, as you seem better versed in suspension than me, what characteristics are likely to change with a HV can?

Like I said, changing to one on a multi-link FS gave more travel, and a more linear action – no ramping up

I have a feeling on a single pivot it may not work quite as well…

How long before the event did you get your Paradox, and did this factor in at all, being a different bike which needing getting used to?

I used the Michelin on the rear for a bit. Good paddle steamer paddle type pattern which hooks up well in the soft mud.

Kenda Klaw (F&R) worked a bit better in my loamy, tacky, and clay terrain

Like the Mud-X up front too, as well as the Stout for ultimate mud, but that is slow going due to weight

Just want to try a HV can.

Had one on a multi-link FS a while ago and it improved the stroke feel, and amount of travel.

This bike is a single pivot so not so sure it will work as well…?

Jeeesz! Talk about insurances not paying up! That's a bad tale.

I thought, for ~£100 you could have thief protection, AND fail safe insurance if one got past security! Fail
