just looked at the maps again – haven't for ages and they have improved in that they enlarge alot more than they used to

    can't beat a local guide though…??

Jimster, i've wanted to ride the Malverns for ages and looking at the BOT map looks as if it pretty much follows the ridge at a level half way up. is this in a round about way about right?

You can have the best map but it's useless without a route 🙂

The BOT web maps are next to useless though

This is the worst advertising campaign I can remember from CRC

I see Mountain Equipment have a range of gloves. Should we be looking at these rather than mtb specific which tbh are a pretty poor lot

Here's the Guides for £36 delivered

    Thanks for that.

So, they sound like being too hot then 😈 😀

Sheesh! I think taking two pairs is the way forward. These to start, then switch to a thinner pair 🙂

Looks like the Strikes are winning so far

The Pearl Lobster's are the 'two-fingered' ones aren't they – and for super cold conditions?

Not sure the Deflects would be quite warm enough for me, plus I have some gloves for that duty

Plenty of 'winter' riding left – well into May 🙂

    Thanks, that's great input.

I get numb finger ends with my Seal Skinz, until I'm proper warm, and then have to keep warm to avoid them going cold again.

The silk liners sound even more fiddly than the SS's, not to mention slightly ghey 😀

I'm after a winter glove you can take on and off quickly

Are the Strikes warm in say 0 to +5 medium to high intensity MTB'ing?

    And what about durability?

    Thanks

I went for Seal Skinz. They are ok, BUT…

not that breathable, and the inners can be very frustrating as the stick to your hands and will pull out if you're not careful and are nigh impossible to get back in

Can't be taken on and off very easily.

I'm looking for something else. Best one's I have had till now are Pearl Izumi's – can't for the like remember which one, but very good indeed

He he, no, ride what you like man.

I forgot you had yours imported, and lifted my eyebrows when seeing your asking price, at more than what I paid brand new and was puzzled. That's where I was coming from.

But really you can't expect your extra costs incurred with personally importing back, or base your asking price on it.

Thing is you can get a brand new UK one for £435, in orange, and medium if you just wait a little. The UK 'Mythic' frame comes with a Banshee head tube badge fitted in place, and Banshee decal tube stickers lose in the box, so you can fit those if you want Banshee on the frame tubes.

You should sell the frame easily and you may well get lucky with the price as the Paradox is currently a hot frame, and I wish you all the luck with it.

You just need to find an impatient Paradox gang wanabee 😉

You're going some on your price. Usually anything drops ~1/4 of it's price as soon it's been used, if only for a couple of rides. Just sayin'

Another Topeak, and another zip tie recommendation (I lost one and then your mudder is history)

He he. I like this set-up for its simplicity and not having to ever shift the front. The gearing is set just right for the riding I do, and it looks cool too

The chain never drops, and yes the tensioner is tight, but I don't think it does any harm

Is that massive front tyre really hard work on a ride?
I'm guessing you run it at a very low pressure to soak up the bumps.

Schwalbe published study – fat and low roll with least resistance 😀

    as above, also:

use meths on the pads and rotors to eliminate grease
Use blow torch on pads to eliminate grease (so they are glowing a little)
    Try them on another bike
Sell them and get another brake

Can anyone confirm the price these are going for?

For the record Banshee's Paradox is so named as it is the antithesis of what a 29er is

It has some of, if not the shortest chain stays of all production 29er's, so is as nimble as a 26" bike, and manuals very easily indeed.

It also has the slackest HTA of all production 29er's and all the benefits of going up and down this brings

It sounds like the OP is after something else, but the Paradox should not be under estimated, or considered just another 29er

    Peace

The article also says the lighter tyres were weighted to counteract the variable

    …Oh yes… I'm looking at a custom Ti Burls for £975…

So, no votes for the Summits's?

The Seal Skinz are warm enough, but sweaty and take caution to take off otherwise the faffy innards come out.

Very (or after so may, non at all) coincidental,I have been looking at and tonight discussing the Burls build I was considering last summer.

Full custom Ti build, delivered for under a grand. And your dealing with a dab hand frame builder…

I'm still trying to work out why the Paradox doesn't feel quite right tbh. Maybe the frame is too small I'm not quite sure yet.

I went with the Med 23 ish ETT as that is what my FS bike measures. The FS was a mess up from the builder as I asked for a bigger frame. It wasn't till 2 months after riding it I found out the size. The FS bike feels great.

I know I have an awkward body shape. I lost 2" out of both my legs in a RTA and I had a longer body proportion before! So at 6'3" I've got an trouser leg length of 33" (rider's inseam 34.5)

I've tried all the online bike fit calculators, and what I have tried to do is experiment with frame/stem/bar lengths.

I'm closer now that ever before I think

When compared to the tread blocks of a fairly blocky tyre, studs are tiny and in snow look making little difference

If you're in snow, as the tyre compresses into and around the snow, the blocks will produce your grip/traction?

For ice, the studs/screws look brilliant

ton: what happens if you get a puncture? 🙂

Actiontec – yes ti IIRC, super expensive and present problems of their own – like chain length, shifting your chain up onto it and gear ratio gaps
