I'd like to try the Hammerschmidt which open up slick gear changing options

The bags I've seen have been left, and have been there for a time – no intention to pick back up at the end of walk.

I've seen these bags hung all over the place where others have to pass, thus upsetting others.

I would really like to find out the reasoning behind why they leave them behind. They don't get picked up, and the only proper action is to dispose of it, correctly if you have picked it up in a bag.

When I am walking my dog in a wood or on the hills and she has has an evacuation, I kick it into the side making sure no-one will step in it.

Couple of days later nature will take its course and will be return back to the earth

For 29T chainrings see this thread here

Like it says, made in US and took 1 week exactly for mine to arrive. I checked it the other day and no signs of wear

By good chainline I mean the best compromise. The chain normally drops inward when on the biggest or second biggest rear, so you need the chainring as close to the BB shell as poss.

The chain NEVER drops – I ride trails like everyone else, bounce down big steps in the woods, stutter roots, blah blah, and back pedal

I like the simplicity of the set-up, and most of all no front mech shifting. The chain ring is a 29T with 11×34 cassette and on the 29er suits my riding terrain perfectly

Agreed, and has much more gnarl cred at the trail head 🙂

    Here we go again…

No chain drop device, you need:

    good chain line

    Short as possible chain

    Short rear mech

and you'll never drop it (providing you want such a set-up of course)

Personally, I prefer the quick service and pay later of FedEx than the piss poor USPS/Parcel Force double act – 3 days to get to UK, 1 week in customs/PF…

I had a £600 fork sent. No different to anything else. Customs valuation was a little lower than selling price, so no help there.

If mtb specific fitters don't exist, would a roadie fitter be the best second bet?

F1's won a scoobynet poll best tyre vote, second were Toyo's. Performance orientated the poll may have been, but I rate them as the best 'all-rounder' as well.

My vote would go for Subaru too, but an Impreza

Get the Wagon – STi (import, so 300bhp). Practical, cheap to buy now, fantastic to drive, good for throwing stuff (& dog) in the back, and it's got roof bars so you can get the bike on the roof 😀

Yes, didn't think about MrTall's Big Mama (or Spesh) last night.

Can't go wrong with those, easier and cheaper to get too

For either of those options new, expect little back on £2.5 – 3.5K

The SIR will be too flexy

The RIP wont (have owned both bikes)

Have you considered any other 29er frames/bikes apart from Ventana/Niner?

Lenz and Turner make FS XXL's (sasquatch) and are both very strong, and fun bikes. Niner's can be a little steep in their HTA's for UK riding, although recreational riding would probably be fine

I think you would be looking at a custom HT if you wanted to go that route

    Good work Stu.

Hehe, yes, in isolation Lenz frames do look odd. Bit more normal built up. All comes from one man in a shed, fab'd out of flat plate…

I am a fan of sq. (& MB, uno, dual, etc). Set-up properly and with periodic inspection it is rock solid
