I like the idea of your Royce/sq taper – I too have a Phil sq taper with servicable bearings. The Phil’s didn’t last long I have to say in my HT I used over last winter, plus the Middleburns have to said are a faff.

The XT crankset this BB is for is 4 years old and has been in as many bikes, it’s just so easy to maintain when anything needs doing, lighter and stiffer than the ‘burns.. etc

10 years 😯 How aften do you ride?

Mr Tall – did manage to open the last XT bearings and regreasing gave another couple of months service, but this one will not open…?

I have square taper & MB’s on another bike, but just yesterday removal stripped the retainer thread – MB’s are temperamental

So a Bike Chain King would work out to £76. Not bad I suppose, but depends on the grease gun cost.

A stainless steel Hope is £60

How much is the King grease gun?

29ers sit you more ‘in’ the bike, rather than perched on top

I think they can be a bit of a crutch.

And really not needed on a SS set-up where you can have the seat an inch or two lower than normal anyway

I’ve only just fitted the brakes, and haven’t even bed them in with the weather and all, I’m looking out for spares. I suppose I should see how the OEM’s go

SSS – of course the Saint’s are overkill, I just got fed up with issues with the other brakes I’ve tried. They look as if they could stop my car though 😀

With these 1×9 set-ups you really need to go as short on chain length as possible
Check out this pic. The chain is not on the 34 either

No drop devise. Chain NEVER drops

I don’t think many places, if any have stocks of NN’s

If anyone knows of stock, spill it

😆 😆 nice one. Still doesn’t get past tights being just a step too far though

1×9 is my preferred set-up and I have encountered the same. Chainring was too far out. The other one which will want to rattle your chain off the front when on 32 is a one not tight enough.

neninja – like me, I think you need th MTFU. I never wear tights – they’re for Shakespearian actors.

one thing to remember with merino is the weight – I have Icebreaker 180 and 260 and there is a huge difference in warmth when worn as the bottom of 3 layers.

Also have an old Howies that I got in a sale about 3 yrs ago which gets worn more and probs around 200

Good point – I suppose it’s best to go OTT a bit as you don’t mind the dung heap steam, but do the freezing nackers 😡

Today and yesterday was toasty wearing the following –
    Altura Ergofit Windproof bib longs
    Baggy shorts
    Sealskinz socks
    Under Armour thermal base layer
    Icebreaker 200 long sleeve zip
    Montane Featherlite Smock
    Altura winter gloves

It was cold enough today to totally freeze my right shifter when some water got in there – only got it working if I stopped and warmed the shifter up with my hand but it stopped working the minute I got going again so gave up and single speeded in the end.

    That’s just OTT 🙂

I really rate the GF jacket I’m using. It is windprrof certainly.

I think I’ll go Baa Baa, the T I have sems prety good, if a little ill fitting perhaps. Icebrakers are overpriced aren’t they?

Burls would be my choice out of your list. He has alot of experience in the design. MTB’s, road etc. It’s made in Russia but I wouldn’t let that worry you.

Used them a couple of weeks ago. On checkout there are USPS (slow) and FedEx (amazingly quick, efficient, trackable) options.

    Top service, good prices
