You happy with it then Nige? I see what you mean about the super short chainstays.

When did it arrive and have you had a decent ride out on it yet?

Only one ride so far, but with zero adaption time it was a good one. Pedaling efficiency was the first thing I noticed – gigglingly good.

Seat tube looks slack, but is 72.25° so not that slack. Head Angle is 69.25° so pointed down and it likes it 🙂

The more I looked at Steve Stickle’s bike’s the more ‘right’ they seemed. He firmly believes 29er chainstay length should be equal to 26″ bikes to give the same lively/snappy handling.

He manages to fit everything in the tight BB area and achieve chainstay length of 425mm (it was possible to have gone shorter, but we opted to go with this length). Rear tyre pictured is a 2,35 Nobby Nic which measures 60mm at its widest and there’s plenty of clearance left.

As for the builder/buyer experience… very different indeed from other custom builders I have been involved with. Attention to detail is nothing short of comprehensive with NO stone being left unturned

I went down to a bearing company near by and picked up the Hope front bearings for 2.50 each.

I used rosebikes the other day for some Shimano stuff. Cheaper than CRC and gor a free gift too.

CRC is now one of the most expensive, but they do deliver next day…

    Mine arrived today

As Tang says, but content thin otherwise. Don’t think I’ll be going on with them

Issue 1 was OK and it was good loo reading – good Gary Fisher feature and his San Francisco hippy bike youth beginnings

I would give the nod to Steve Stickle of the ByStickle fame (or not so famous)

My experience with him on a custom build has been in a different league to any other builder I’ve used. The guy leaves NO stone unturned

Wolfhounds are nice and bling, pricey and difficult to get hold of, plus the whole process can be wearisome…

    Paul

The unwanted Widgit I received from you a couple of weeks ago just doesn’t seem to want to lie down. As you know, I started a couple of forum threads, as I was a little taken aback with your response after asking for a return and refund. I started a further 3rd forum thread asking about Widgit compatibility with 29er bikes, as a poster reported an issue experienced with his Widgit and a 29er frame. These threads keep on going and have got to the point where I think all would agree enough is enough as I’m sure these must be damaging for business.

I would like to get some resolution with you, and post such on these threads. I accept my error, ordering something I then decide I don’t need, but try to see it from my side. The Widgit is a costly item, working out to ~£100 GBP, and it looks as though it might be difficult to find a buyer, which means I am stuck with it, unless you decide, on this occasion to accept the return. I’ve never heard of any bike company not taking returns, whether they be in the UK, EU, or elsewhere, and there is no mention of these terms & conditions on your site. I offer to pay the postage you have paid sending the Widgit to me and furthermore, offer to pay a 10% handling fee for your trouble. The packaging has not been opened, everything is as brand new.

As a side, I have since found the Widgit will not fit my bike for the planned application

I do hope this can end up as an all’s well that ends well

    Regards

    Nigel

Widgit should at the very least specify on its site compatabilty, and also a return/exchange policy. There is nothing at the moment on the Widgit site.

I (OP) don’t now need it.

Keavo – came in with similar handling who found his Widgit didn’t work on his frame

Both of us have received the brash end of Haggerty’s PR

Hey, it’s a global village, right?

My Nightlightling light I bought from NZ. Have bought many frames from US, and sent some back for warranty, all without problem. May as well have been from CRC – heck across the channel, across the pond, or the opposite hemisphere, all’s the same

I suppose you’ll be listening to that edition then 😉

I’m giving feedback on my buying experience.

I think potential buyers would like to be forewarned about possible pitfalls buying from Paul Haggerty and the fact Widgits simply just do not work on some bikes

keavo ended up stuck with his, being incompatible with his bike. I am stuck with mine

Too true al, but still pretty sh1te PR

Also what about the devise not working on every bike as talked about above and here, with no mention on his site…?

Dougal I think this is my biggest difficulty – I don’t know what I have to look for

Here’s another shot of the BB shell with the Bearings fitted. It’s the dust cap I need too – it goes all the way down, more than the ones in the 1st pic I posted

I am using a standard XT crank if that helps

Andy – cheers for the links, they look good

I was thinking of some to replace some Burners which keep sliding down and then get stuck on the saddle

So, the belt doesn’t work? Same problem maybe

I had lost faith in the Stumpy when I was looking at replacing the shock and brain for £300 – otherwise very happy with it…

Spesh dealer sent the shock back and Spsh replaced almost everything on/in it as a goodwill – for all intents it’s a brand new shock – mightily impressed, so I’m feeling the love again now: Great bike, yes a keeper

The TB, or the spearfish is a bit too race orientated for my liking, not really slack enough, and sooo long chainstays 😉

Other one to look at is the Salsa FS Weighs almost the same as Tall B

    Thanks for the offer.

    Are you running tubeless?

The muddy conditions are making progress slow – bit like wading through treacle sometimes

I went out yesterday and conditions were best for a while with some old mud frozen which lightened and speeded things up

I’ll give Disco a go I think next time, thanks all for suggestions

This is all great news… my current FS is a 29er Stumpy with brain. I rate the overall performance, but the shock has blown its seals and that means a £95 Spesh dealer service. There is a light nick on the shaft which the dealer said could mean new shock and brain – £350. Kinda deflates the stoke. Plus I think the TB could well be the better ride.

daveells – I may well take you up on your kind offer
