Charlie is getting the steel SF in next week.

He then needs to get the bike built, which is not the usual build what with hubs and wheel builds etc, so a couple of weeks after that he should be rolling it out

Not sure of spec, inc bars

Aahh, Tim – there’s a blast from the … bought a Phil BB from you a while back. What a piece of kit. Will last forever 🙂

One good vote for them then

I had the big platformed spd’s and liked them – but they certainly weren’t lightweights lol

Hmmm… it’s the clipping in, if anything I would criticise the 540’s for

I use multi-directional cleats so cliiping out easier

Ground Effect (Baked Alaska ?). With just a base layer under it you WILL NOT ever be cold.

Looks good off the bike too

Coincidence – out on today’s ride and came across a rider ‘trying’ the carbon version, which I had a quick spin on… pedaled nice and snappy. Thought the HTA was a little steep for my riding/liking, but very well built frame – the box section DT was humungus

I love 1×9 29T up front – 11/34 out back for my hilly, steep short up & downs, woodsy riding. Does everything perfectly with little clutter up front too.

The general trend has gone slacker. 72° started out as the norm. I owned a Niner (FS & HT) which were just too steep @72. Current 29er ride is a smidge under 70° and suits what i do perfectly (woodsy hilly stuff)

The Scott’s geo would get my nod

Where does the Jones Spaceframe (and other similar) fit in then?

I owned a RIP a few years back when comparing the TNT. I preferred CVA. More plush and seemed more active with longer travel. Very firm pedaling from the both of ’em

My 29’er FS choice – Spesh: it has super short CS’s (only the Lenz has shorter, but I sold my Behemoth after giving up on the terrible single pivot rear), super standover, slack HTA and pedals brilliantly

^ 🙂 The ‘hound is a gorgeous bike no doubt. Really opened my eyes to what a rigid 29er is capable of

Geo very close to Jones, but with shorter CS’s (currently running 16.3″ which is dam short)

    Here’s some more

OP. Prolly best option is pick yourself up a bunch of stems and bars and see what you like.

I used to like 50mm stems (and risers) and a small (for me) frame. During a custom build I went with the builder and ended up not only with a larger frame, but also a longer stem (90)

One thing, you need you arms (and hands) forward and high enough to brace you when riding aggressive technical (if of course you do ride that)

A wolfhound AND a bystickle!! Just a blackcat to go then ;0)

Never heard of Blackcat. Seems to share the short CS ethos

6’3″ and go for bars & saddle equal height

The By:Stickle has a dropper post and the ‘hound has a slightly lower saddle. Saddle too high ‘bucks’ me as i have long torso

    Nige,

Just looked on the SJS website and they have a few in 10 degree or one in 20 degree in the correct length.

Easton EA90 seems the easy choice and i’m guessing must be available cheaper than SJS somewhere?

Thanks Steve. Easton seem to make all the sizes. Can’t find them any cheaper than £80 though 😯

Could you not just get a frame the right size

    I have a Bontrager stem sitting around, it’s 130mm and I think 10 rise.

Thanks. 130 is on the edge of being too long, lol. If I can’t find anything I’ll give you a shout back. Thanks again

Oh, forgot to say, I also use a BB which can be adjusted laterally and then fixed which allows tweaking of chainline, so if chain’s dropping in, move chianring in and visa versa. This makes for zero dropping off

No chance i might get mistaken for wokboy.

We’ll be going back there in the next couple of weeks if you’re feeling brave?

I’ll even slow down enough to show you the line to take this time.

Oh well if you’re offering to hold my hand down there, then I can’t refuse 8) Enjoyed that ride last time
