2013 has seen 29er’s globally realise their place, instead of all the sorted ones being US, or custom built US frames.

Most if not all 29er’s are well sorted bikes now, and slack & low seem popular… so, fill your boots 🙂

You could always get yourself a Raijin

    What fork?

It’s good money for ti, but the geo looks old school

Oh I come from a 29er background. This Kona has really surprised me though. It’s noticeably different than all the others, including a custom steel Wolfhound I have just switched from.

The fork has alot to answer for I’m sure. 550grms it’s super light and tracks brilliantly

1st ride shakedawn (well, 15 miler/2hr) – it’s bloody fast. I’m guessing it’s the weight or lack of that makes it so, but on a couple of occasions I felt the bike running away from me. It builds speed very easily and very quickly. Makes my other bikes seem like plodders by comparison

Other thing, very confidence inspiring. I thought it felt a little ‘steep’ angle wise first off, but no worries at all. Likes being ragged about etc. I know it all sounds like the regular stuff you hear, but this bike really is VERY fast

It has flex too which is what I was after. Standing side on on a pedal you can see a good deal of movement in the CS/BB which all translates to good compliancy, comfort, and more importantly the ability to change line mid bend flat out – something my other rigid resisted

I guess you could summerise as flattering, fast & fun

The H Bars now seem the most criticised JJ offering

The price on H bars is a bit lower now people have discovered how much more adaptable the Loop bar is.

Yup. That is what I got. I was hoping for something, but I just couldn’t get the bars to sit right and shifters etc to sit right

JJ has a pic on his site somewhere of a H with Shimano brakes and gear shifters. Can’t remember the order but the brake calliper is wrapped into the lower part

I have a Phil. Very nice, and is serviceable too so lasts ‘forever’. The bearings last a long time tbf. The chainline adjustment is neat, very good for tweaking the 1×9 set-up I run

But the Shimano’s are very durable, and super cheap

The FSA ones are known to last longer than the SRAM ones. I’d give one a go and if you still have problems, stick an adaptor in and use a standard BB.

    What – FSA ceramic? 😯

How long are they lasting, do perform maintenance on them, and how are you installing them (press etc)?

BTW – I never heard back from Triton after 2 emails

I found the same with Enigma – just not helpful, too forthright and impatient

I don’t know how accommodating Burls will be with unusual requests… eg super short CS’s on a 29er – that sort of thing

XACD are super fast and super cheap (I mean super – sub $1K)

Thing is you need to be sure on EXACTLY what you want, down to every angle and every placing of every cable tie

The Ti they source wont be the best, tolerance and wall thickness consistency wise, but should be OK

i have done a bit of research which suggests it should be quiet. i’ve ordered the sram pressfit bb30 – bsa adaptor unit.

That’s a plastic cup isn’t it keavo. Is it fixed in any way in the shell?

BB life aside, the whole 30mm axle, and bigger bearing/wider shell makes sense to me – stiffer and lighter

    Good to hear 🙂

I haven’t ridden a Ti framed bike before. Always put it off as thought it can’t be £1500 better than a steel… The Kona has all the geo I like and is sensible money, plus it’s a Kona and made by Lynskey, but yes, the Raijin should be here soon.

Are you happy with the Press fit BB arrangement? I’ve seen a couple convert for a traditional screw fit… It looks a great idea to me

Have you any experience with ti SP’s? I’m looking at alternatives, if indeed there are any
