Both my LBS’s have 80% 29er’s in their shops (not counting all the other BMX etc).

    Difficult to spot a 26…

I run a Maxxis Ikon 2.20 in my S129. It’s not a true 2.2, but I wouldn’t be able to run much more

And, tbf not much need either with rear suspension

    Good feedback guys, thanks.

I bought a pair of polarised ones yesterday for driving and they seem very good – no glare whatsover.

Plus – and this is a big plus – they allow you see highly contrasted shaded areas clearly on a brightly lit sunny day (eg under trees) where the road might be dappled in sunlight

I’ll leave them off for the riding then – stick to my £5 eBay DeWalt safety glasses 🙂

    So, both polarised then?

Other thing is if you get the angle at a certain level the polarisation can block vision, if I’m right there.

I like the ploarised effect (enhanced colour) though,

I agree – but best to put some things to bed properly 🙂

This was the WH and this felt a small cockpit when climbing, and with straight bars. That is the Jones ‘thing’ though

I’ve not ridden a JJ, but did own a Wolfhound which had near identical geo.

That was a heavy steel frame and also very stiff with a unicrown fork.

I would say it was stiff to the point of unforgiving and heavy to the point of feeling slow

I used it through two winters, plus a few times through the year, but could not get on with it in the faster drier conditions

I now ride a ti Kona Raijin with a Niner RDO CF fork and that is totally different

I got the bike last Autumn and have ridden it ever since. I prefer it to my other 3 bikes.

Compared, it is more lively, more comfortable and I can get into a flow more easily

The WH was difficult to hold a line when pushing on, and you really felt everything. In the more plodding Winter it seemed to fit in nicely

This is not a better/worse, the Kona is the only other rigid bike I have ridden to compare with

    OK, good advise/summary 🙂

What are you meaning on the overtightening? Cup in the shell?

I’m 6′ 4″ and have the 24″ Merlin version, others at my exact same height have the 23. In retrospect I think I could have gotten away with the 23 too although I think Jeff says they’re for those upto 6′ 2″

Thanks, only just seen your reply.

Good to hear as I’m on the sniff for one again…

I picked up on of those rootes – very well put together bike. Lively and good attention to detail.

It won over a Whyte 100mm travel which I demo’d

I tightened up the steerer and was going to test things on a ride today, but I’m fair weather and it’s persissting down…

    Thanks

The ebay one is a Merlin, so there’s a chance it’s custom?

Having said that 23″ is sounding familiar as the one size fits all JJ geo…

Rocky Mountain Altitude – well sorted bike with nice lively, & confident feel

So, 23″ is a huge frame, no?

The ebay frame is a 23″ does that mean seat tube (not ETT)

I haven’t got one, but was thinking of of getting one, perhaps when JJ finally goes for the Ti Diamond 🙂

The Niner RDO I have at present gives some stutter/judder so was wondering if it’s a rigid fork thing

I’ll check everything – HS, rotor etc

    Cheers

I rode one a while back but bought something else.

The bike just didn’t feel lively, dare I say felt a little dull. The HTA is very slack and I think this had alot to do with the feeling I got.

The rear works very well and is super efficient and overall a well made and decent looking frame

RS – yes, beautiful tube forming. Very nice all round bike. If you’re going off the side of Snowdon or on an Alpine trip you may need a little more travel, but this does pretty well

    Here’s another

    Aargh…! Thanks.

I have ended up with the wrong ones then – Brant’s on the case

(although, FFS, it is only some socks – how many homeless are there and how many trillions in the queen worth, and if she spent enough to put an end to it all, how many trillions would she have left?)

I use Han Dampf up front @ ~18psi on my rigid 29er – slightly draggy, but nothing to complain about, but tons of grip and plenty of cush

Hey fatmax, which ones did you order? Thicky’s or Thiny’s?

Do they look like Brant’s red stripey ones fit wise/

They were the thickies. They wouldn’t have been so bad except they literally just came over my ankles. In my Shimano MW02’s they would have just come to the top of the collar.

That height needs describing, that’s all I’m saying
