    Did you find one?

I have a black tapered going

If it hasn’t been mentioned – and maybe a lot cheaper than some of the suggestions – get your weight off the front

Get the front end higher, hands/arms further up and back. Saddle back on its rails, lay-back seat post etc

Rigid works best imo when ridden almost BMX style – off the back wheel

I recently bought a 29er Rigid (Stooge) and am so pleased not to have suspension

I used to own a 4″ and a 2″ FS 29er. Needless to say these were mahoosive overkill. I mean let’s face it, most of UK riding doesn’t need the marketing BS of inches of travel and the latest inverted double gassed triple fork

I bought a suspension bike a year or so back – a Rocky Mountain Altitude – and have used it probably a dozen times. This should be for sale rather than sitting there doing nothing

I sold the older FS bikes some years back and did go back to another, albeit less travel – wish I hadn’t

So, my advise – sell it, don’t look back and enjoy the fun

Yeah, I’ve been using mine for all round duties more than I think any other bike owned…

It’s been used as a go to for everything type of ride from going to the pub, bimbling along the canal with mates, visiting folk, nipping to shop – basically if any excuse… oh and lots of ‘bimbling round the trails’ too 🙂

Nice – first SS I’ve seen

    You prefer a straight seatpost?

Like the colour of those electric green shorts Stu. Have you got a full frontal shot?

Yeah, my 2.4 Racing Ralph is a tight squeeze, but no buzz, and despite low (low 20’s) pressure

Yes, I’ve found ~10psi good for the Knard

I use the plastic tool to tighten up the core. It goes as tight as to make the whole valve turn – it stays put just fine under everything except when that pump is attached

I really dont want another screaming/swearing moment

I like the look of the road morph – it’s like a mini track pump

    Thanks for the comments

Mate’s had the Ramin now for a few days and I’ve gotten my hands on it and given it a makeover 🙂

Seat post was changed for a lay back as too much weight was over the front/forks. Soon as the bike was anything like down the seat wanted to buck you over the bars

Bars changed for some slightly wider (720) and some rise to get the hands higher

Front tyre goes to a Weirwolf 2.55

He calls it a tour de force, and I’m inclined to agree. Once he had accustomed to the rigid fork and relaxed fully I was pretty impressed what he was doing for a recent rider

The Genesis, while looking good has quite a low fork which I didn’t like – it is called a race bike after all I suppose

He went for a Ramin One

It’s arriving today and I’ll check it out over the weekend.

Looks a tidy bike to me

It looks great. At first glance the Salsa bars look very similar to the Mary bars you started with, but maybe the Salsa bars are wider, lower, and less swept back. Do they feel quite different? Also, did you manage to try the Jones bars to compare them?

    POSTED 2 DAYS AGO # REPORT-POST

The two bars couldn’t feel more different.

I spoke to a dealer who sells alot of 29er bikes and as soon as I mentioned the Mary Bars, he said they’re too narrow – which are the same as my impressions

The Salsa’s on the hand are night & Day better. I can’t say perfect, but very nearly

I would prefer a tad wider and a little more sweep

However, the front of the bike feels brilliant now. They have given more control, made the front feel lighter (as if it could any lighter), easier to loft/wheelie, turn corners, technical – a very big overall improvement

the way it turns in a corner

As opposed to how it turns whilst going in a straight line perhaps?

Here’s mine now with Salsa 23deg Bend 2 Bars bought from CTBMonger yesterday (had a chat with him re the Stooge, and he commented on how much he liked it, and the way it turns in a corner)

Personally, I’m loving mine and ride it every day I’m around.

Such a capable bike, incredibly light front, and immense fun

My riding is hilly and steep so lots of snakes and ladders through woods and small paths/singletrack – performs perfectly in this

    Hi monkey, and welcome

I’m trying the Mary bar soley on a recommendation from Mr Stooge. I have to say so far it’s lasted one ride. More on that later. 90 stem. Bit more on bars here: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/difference-between-mary-bars-and-jones-h-bars/page/2#post-6088041

Knard is on a Stans Flow at 25.5mm internal width. Went up tubeless first time and so far performing well at ~18psi. May try a little lower, say ~15

Climbing seems OK. Mind you, I did a last season’s mostly worn out Racing Ralph (2.4). It’s pretty good considering, but in the wet woods does slip and clag up, so halts progress temporarily

The Knucklebar is very close indeed to the Kodex Strut bar which I have been using on my 29er’s for a few years now.

    http://www.kodex-racing.com/en/products/detail/bars/strut_bar/

I like W-I-D-E bars, so the 750mm of the Strut bar is something I immediately liked, and the 777 width of the Knuckle something I wouldn’t mind trying

The backsweep (11°)is nice as of course the wider you go the more back sweep your wrists need

The whole thing works very well indeed, so the Knuckle looks good, with 100g of weight loss

    I’m 6’2″ use a 50-90 stem on large size geared 29er

Best ride yet yesterday. What can I say except the bike and rider are getting more synergised

The riding is getting more comfortably quick, easier to get round/over stuff etc etc…

The bike is doing exactly what I was hoping for, and more. It is a lot more fun than I had imagined it would be. While it does the bump absorption stuff admirably while still being a rigid, has a beautifully weighted front and overall benign balance.

It is as comfortable as any other bike inc dare I say a full suss (for my woods riding, hilly terrain), but what is continuing to make my smile grow wider each ride is the fun factor.

It really is staggering what a rigid bike can do

All as the above and more

Why do you need to compare?

The Jones geo does give a short cockpit, especially when standing climbing

3 decent rides in now and am getting a very nice flow with it

The front is incredibly light… yet well planted

The bike is responsive for sure and quickly forms a how far you going to go type of relationship. Very nearly came unstuck having too much fun today 🙂

It does everything you need it to. Climbs, mashing is great of course, and honks it down rollercoaster stylee

    Gush end
