    It is a rough guide

But – too high and as said you’ll get hip rocking, but a lot worse, lower back rocking – and then lower back irritation and pain

I don’t use the max efficiency position, but a little lower as a compromise – it’s not a perfect world 🙂

Road bike frame geo is different too, so the minus 10cm will probably not work

    For max efficiency:

Heel on pedal axle when at max distance from from you (between 5 & 6 depending how you look at it) your knee should be LOCKED – in other words completely straight

All else will follow from here

When the middle of your foot is on the pedal axle your knee will be able to move a little and when the ball is on – the normal riding position – your knee will flexed a little

This position engages all the pedaling muscles involved quite well, including one of the most important – vastus medialis, or ‘the cycling muscle’

However, saying that for seated climbing that position is the best for max power

Cruising singletrack though, I find too high, and can get snag if trying to quickly get back off out the way

3 stage Dropper posts are good for this. Top position max efficiency – climbing

One inch down – cruising singletrack etc

All the way down – jeesus that looks steep

    Got one FS actually

Got mine form British Military Surplus today

They smell extremely strongly of damp, and are too small

They are also of a cotton/fabric material and cannot possibly be waterproof

    I’ve sent them an email

    ^^ those look a bit pricy (~£5) 🙂

The £1-50 eBay ones I go for – keep wiping them, and chuck ’em when they’re scratched up – work perfectly

Could never understand folk buying Oakleys and the like

Get it looked at by a decent physio (I recommend osteopath) for dysfunction in the ankle/foot joints

Very common is for the two bones in lower leg to ‘slip’ forward over the joint, preventing full upward flexion. Can lead to shin splints too, but essentially every step you take creates a tugging on the Achilles

    Predisposed by sitting a lot

No amount of stretching of calf muscles will help if this si the case

Same way as I ride then 🙂

Ha ha – yeah the Enville White is pretty good – not sure it’s better than meeting a pretty girl though 8)

Th other Enville with honey is very simialr to other Black Country beer – very sweet

Not as bad as Bathams though – that stuff really is sugar water

They fit onto the seat stays – totally away from the seat post

RTD – interesting route you’re taking if it’s anywhere near Enville 🙂

    Mine should be here today

You should have gone to collect it.
    It’d have been cheaper too.

2.5L Subaru – 20’ish mpg (the way I drive), 25 mile round trip

    As opposed to 1-click 🙂

But what are you going to get for £20? 🙂

I wear 3/4’s year round, but after the other thread knocking around, have ordered some ex-arm gortex – they were £10 🙂 I’ll have to see what they’re like

You recon you could tell which way round the tyre was if it was dark and you didn’t know which way it was fitted…

I’d say almost definitely not 🙂

errrr – what is ‘cornering’ orientation – I could decide which way so just slapped mine on.

I think if you just slapped your £90 tyre on, you shouldn’t be worried about orientation

^ Got to agree – weight is easily offset by good rolling

Mounted mine on ‘cornering’ direction – frc tried it on momentum mode?

    what’s that second bike?
A Wolfhound, interesting custom builder in the States. Makes that sort of high-front, short-rear, woodsy, rigid ‘Jonesy’ 29er. Bystickel has been doing a similar thing for ages also, could be said to be the first to make truly short rear-end 29ers.

I think, if your riding consists of anything more aggressive than toe-paths then getting weight off a rigid front is a priority to avoid being beaten up – so yes, the likes of Steve Stickle and Fred Cuthbert’s designs work well

However, they are pricey and not without their issues

Much better and an awful lot cheaper to get a Stooge 🙂

    bonesetter

Oh, I see, thanks for the clarification 🙂

Well, that sounds like a very decent performer then (tyre & yourself 🙂 ). Might give one a wirl, but have recently bought a Minion

I think most of the country is wringing wet with water at the mo and anything (or anyone) will struggle

I’m using a Minion 2.5 on the front of my Stooge and it grips just fine, but is a tad draggy. Rolling and hit any king of slurry/leaf mulsh debris and you can feel the speed scrub

Having said all that, Stooge and me came home fairly mud light after today’s spin ’round

By all accounts GC’s come up bigger than Nates, so Bud must be a fair bit bigger than Nate
