How does it work if you’re self-emplyed?

    Are the costs ‘allowable?’

Be nearly time to put the Knard back on then

Mountain Warehouse are 75/25 fill mix. No mention of fill power

    My Alpkit should arrive tomoz

Is there generous headroom for a tall driver?

Yeah, the whole ethos appeals – just over 1000 Kg’s so 123 BHP (Mk1) is pretty useful

    Not too pricey either

did he try and get you to tubeless his fat tyres while you were there?

Great, looks like I’ve made a good move as I Ordered a Filo 🙂

‘Walking to the pub’ is about all I want it for

You pair out and about tomoz? I’ll be bimbling ’round, passing the Anchor

Thanks everyone – think it’s going to be the Alpkit.

The long back is the deal winner for me. I like their down to earth ethos too

Dash – was that the sales on Alpkit’s site?

mtbel – not everyone’s body size fits into the ‘normal’ or ‘average’ range

    A bib felt like Borat’s mankini – I really didn’t like them, and I tried a few

    Thoughts so

Pleader – I think this is always what issues like these boil down to – intended purpose

It’s for a sort of do it all use I suppose, so standing/sitting around outside in the winter/cold, walking the dog etc

So, no climbing mountains, trecking the arctic etc

Just been looking at the Alpkit Filo. Quite like the look of that as it has a long back, as well as a detatchable hood, plus is sensible money

    evil – thanks for that

It’s not for wet weather, more of a daily

The Buffalo is too serious/not suited

I have just bought a Regatta down jacket I want to use for carrying in a pack when riding (this one packs down really small) and getting out when standing around outside a pub

    Jattnar – ooh deep pockets

850 fill power though (as good as it gets)

    And 97/3% fill ratio

    That’s the best I’ve seen

    I’m after a pauper’s model though

    Might pay £80 – 100 tops

Tracker – was only joking really. THanks for your good intention though 🙂

Go Outdoors seem to sell the premium brands (although have decent offers)

All ‘outdoor’ shops sell these type of jackets now though don’t they, like Millets etc

Aren’t the down ones only 10 or 20% down anyway?

This is what I can’t quite accept – I can’t see where the money is

Oh sure – a half priced Rab I would go for

I ended up getting Ron Hill running 3/4s, I found the pads in the lower end cycling ones ridiculous and a lot no longer come with waist drawstring, which is / was an absolute deal breaker for me (so double check beforehand if you want).

Something like these would last and are better quality than all the equivalent ‘cycling specific’ efforts at and around that price I’ve found. I use knee warmers underneath if it’s the depths of Winter with padded shorts over the top: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ronhill-trail-contour-34-tight-aw14/

Hmmm… these are looking the best yet

^^ Agreed – this is what I’ve found

I want them over the knee, plus some

No bibs, NO BIBS, no bibs

    They don’t fit me

This is the problem I had finding a pair last time, and the reason for this post… they’re thin on the ground

I couldn’t get a bib to fit my very long body

It was in my future offspring’s interests to ditch the bib idea 🙂

    Sealskinz just don’t do it

They make your hands sweat, and getting them off is then difficult.

The inner around the fingers pulls out.

Then getting them back on again is an ordeal

Interesting – says for max benefit needs to be worn against the skin

Popped into Go Outdoors who have a lot of the jackets in stock

Tried the Prism – seemed pretty good but the Regatta Iceway was longer in the body which is better for my stretch body, and it packs down to almost nothing

Go are pretty good – they encourage you to barter on price. Instore sign reads find in cheaper anywhere else, including online and you get that price, minus another 10%. So, from a RRP of £100, ended up £51

Is it long in the body would you say? If you ride with it, does it cover your lower back?

Gorilla Tape fits perfectly in the RH’s width

Mine went up straight away and I haven’t touched it since – this was summer

This has got to be a fairly decent plus point

Managed to procure the last EXO version from Travers. It will be going on this 50mm carbon monster from Nextie when I have some spare time in a week or so to attach it to a hub.

He has more (landed yesterday) – one of which I just grabbed 🙂
