    3/4 baggy’s! 🙂

With over knee under’s too at this t-o-year. Good enough to the minus 18 we had

Yeah, I need to alter the cleat position too so will look at upper closure too

First outing in the Lakes today…

Compared to the MW81’s the feel once on your feet is a much more snug and soft one. Then you instantly become aware of their warmth, and the warmth stays

All the watery muddy crap from today’s ride beaded like a freshly waxed car. Washing the bike after I splashed the hose over them and gave them a quick brushing and they are like brand new again

I did hnotice the tops of them are fairly open and not a tight closure, so any mud or splashes will find their way in…

They are lightweight and flexible and the boa ‘bo-ah’ closure system works just fine

Hey mboy – I looked and looked and searched and searched…

I needed a certain size (48) and the ONLY one I could find were Winstanleys

I tried the local dealer – which in my case was Halfords Merry Hill. They got a size 47 in for me which was too small and said they couldn’t get any other sizes in – so what is any Lake wannabee to do??

Thanks, I’ll see how they go as they’re seeing their first couple of rides the weekend

Chrimso – what’s you usual cleaning regime? Clean em like you’re going to sell em every ride?? Is that what’s needed?

    I got mine from Winstanly’s for £169

Then I emailed Lake re care and got the above

Then I went down to my cobbler who sold me some beeswax, Scotchgaurd spray and boot polish (the stuff you apply with a sponge)

Said you need to apply the stuff regularly

Lake reckon (on the box) use soapy water to clean – that’s it

It sure is an interesting bike, and I would love to see how it rides

The fact the shock has to take care of bumps only seems a big plus

I do wonder if there is a real place for short travel 29 FS bikes though with the advances in suspension design and weight savings

There’s a lot of 100mm bikes around for the same weight etc

The ‘fish is quite an ‘xc’ bike though isn’t it?

You know – racy and shaved legs

I bought my Element from Evans on a clearout

Spec was pretty much as I would have built myself if frame only buy

    I tried the Whyte offering…

A decent, well thought out bike, does everything well, but I found it a bit dull, and ultimately not much fun

It just didn’t have that alive feel that your favourite bike has, or for that matter what the Element immediately and obviously had – a very different story all round

For the money in that link above though it would be a good buy

    That’s a fair few votes happy 🙂

How does the rear peform on the Spearfish?

Second the RM Element. I have the 970

It’s a brilliantly executed bike with a super efficient rear too

The Lakes might be a no goer anyway

Most places are out of stock of them

Is it too late in the season I wonder

Does anyone know how the MW80’s compare to the 81’s for warmth?

    bonesetter
    Free Member

    It does help, thankyou

My MW80’s have lasted very indeed. They get completely covered in crap and all they ever see in way of cleaning is a flash of the hose after cleaning the bike

If I am doing a non-stop, more full-on ride they will be OK, but as soon as I stop I can feel toes starting to go cold

I’m thinking I shall have to give them a try…

    Thanks Suggsey – good feedback

The Lakes have always ‘looked’ like something frankenstein might wear, how do they ‘get out of the way’ when riding?

Do you ‘notice’ them all that much??

9Zero7 Whiteout is a beauty and something I would own in a flash… was it not for the price

Plus that’s a fat bike and perhaps in my ideal mind there was a half fat…

However, I do find myself using my current fat bike for most of my current riding

I have been trying Progold Extreme and it seems pretty good – been out in some bad mud with it.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Actually cleans the chain during use – even the sloppiest of conditions

Got a few using it now and all have spotless chains

Tried em all (except UBS 😉 )

Is there such a CF machine then for technical trails riding, without going to the Chinese sellers? Or is this OK now?

Latest Stooge incarnation – thought I would try her single speed

This is my third and ABSOLUTELY FINAL TIME IN MY LIFE EVER I am going to try ss

Why oh why in god’s holy name does anyone really want to do this

    Misery

Anyway, looks nice with Middleburn RS-8’s. Gives the Stooge a retro look
