I’m really not sure about those gloves – they just clash

So, you’re saying it’s a wheel size thing, and a rider weight and strength thing?

What’s the height cut off point do you reckon?

Charge cooker range looks interesting, might go that way if they do frame only

Do they do a + size?

It’s not full + in the rear

    A Vee fits, and a 29 2.4 Ardent

we also ride Clent but there are a few to many dog walkers. I have collided with someone on the downhill from Walton and I don’t want to have to apologise to any more.

Poor Form Mr Hitler – there should never be any reason to collide with anyone, down the Walton decent or otherwise

MTB’ing is tolerated over Clent, and can only so by the sensitivities of riders to walkers, something you say you haven’t as you don’t even want to apologise for your bad actions

I have been riding Clent regularly for 15 years and never collided with anyone – I just expect the unexpected, so nothing is a surprise. I slow to dead slow for walkers and pass with a smile – all’s good

Plus, if you know Clent well, you will ride where you hardly see a dog

Sorry for the hijack but how’s Clent riding at the moment?

    bone dry and fast

The current downpoour we’re having (9.24 am) will just firm things a little as the sun’s returning a little later by all accounts

I thought this thread was pointless

It started out as a piss take, but I think it has taken on a deeper meaning now :)

I file mine – especially after tonight:

One opened up my leg like up a surgoen’s scalpal – blood all over the trail

Quite upset a couple walking by

The Sram ones are £67 already

They are also X-Sync. Is this just marketing babble for narrow-wide?

They will be at Trek dealers everywhere come September

Of all the Stache lineup it’s the 5 which floats my boat. It just looks so right

Plus 16″ chainstays should be a revelation

    That is indeed the RRP

Your local Trek dealer may vary by quite a margin though

BTW Bonesetter, not normally a supporter of the big S, but the Specialized Slaughter is a great rear tyre.

Slaughter works well in the rear

Can’t fault it on the bone dry woods trails last few rides, which are the only conditions it has seen so far

It’s a heavier and sturdier tyre to most I have used in Stooge’s rear, and the stoutness of the wall is a good thing – gives a sense of snug and resilience, which I think is the take away impression

Rolls well and hooks up on everything

Some good stuff here on wheel/tyre size….

PLUS Stache talk from Trek (6.34 on)

Blimey, those Smartwool are pricey 8O

Couldn’t find any merino at Go Outdoors

And Howies do merino base layers only :(

    bonesetter

Ah, thanks. Yeah, I have a few of their stuff.

That merino heatwave is a nylon/merino mix

Maybe the way to go as the pure merino one I have is beginning to fall apart now

I almost went with a Vertigo Ti frame (before more frames like Kona’s Raijin and Stooge were off the peg available) and each little addition was an another $300.

For example the ti material for a bridged BB/CS for extra short CS’s was $400 plus a labour charge

So Stooge is now a full 29+ bike (bit like Trek’s Stache)

Presumably there is flexibility in the spec of this frame?

For example, size (larger/smaller riders), threaded BB, finish etc?

I’ve just fitted one on the Stooge rear

So, here’s where it stands. Trek are not definitely bringing in the Stache 5

My comment was made in the blur of excitement (and had just got back from the boozer)

BUT – Trek are watching this space, and the interest which is being generated in the 5. South Down Bikes have definites on two 5’s and there are 3 on this thread who have expressed firm interest

SO – thing to do is contact your Trek dealer and get them to contact Trek UK to help get this bike over here. It’s just a matter of getting enough interest and Trek will get the bikes here

There’s not a retail price yet, but ~£1200 or so has been mooted
