What happens then?

It goes dim when you stop and full bright when hooning?

I’ve been using one of the cheap as chips ones for a very long time

In fact, the original batteries failed and their BB date was 2010

I thought I would keep this as a spare and get a decent light, but I’m having second thoughts

So, I ordered the Madison Zenith and the Roam to decide

The Zenith is a softshell. Pretty regular MTB jacket which I have a couple of

The Roam, which after asking Madison, supersedes the Telegraphe is quite different

Its outer is much more outdoor jacket like – more medium weight, and heavier weight than the obviously the Zenith. It also has a mesh liner which weights things up a little more.

The outer would weather the odd incursion with a thorn bush/brambles/fall just fine I’m sure. It’s waterproof with a hood and rated as very breathable, which it feels like it is

It packed down into my backpack fine, and was welcome post ride sitting having a pub drink

All in all – exactly what I was after – took some finding mind

So, if you’re after a post ride jacket, take a look at the Madison Roam :)

Well done guys for coming in – almost an epic STW fail :)

Yeah. USB rechargable sounds good

I like the sound of Exposure’s Reflex technology – adjusts light output depending on speed (and light unit’s temp?), and the indicator on the rear for battery charge

bonesetter

The battery is integral on the Exposure lights? So no wires?

The Four4th lights are smaller than the Exposures I see

The company has been running for some years too which is reassuring

The Torm ones look Ok, but I don’t like the cargo pockets at the rear

Have you compared the Torm ones to Rapha?

That would be a deal breaker for me too

My local BS have stopped selling Marin – ‘they’ve gone downhill’ was their comment

This bike is available next month – my mate’s going to buy one

The fork brace has gone by the looks of things

Only possible issue is mud clearance according to this report

Marin’s back to basics plus bike is one to watch

The Max D needs to be supported by a helmet light due to its focused beam, so two lights become pricey, no?

Last year I searched for a few long sleeved ones, they are perfect this time of year and stick a helly hanson underneath when its colder. I also have one of the Kona ones and they are great but actually prefer sn ibis one I found online. The best I used to have was a Ritchey one but they are no longer made, mine eventually fell to pieces after a few years daily use. shame. last I looked there were a few around abroad but mega bucks.

EDIT: Campag used to do some nice ones

Got a link for the Ibis one?

Yup.

Fuse was the left field, which I didn’t know about

He has been riding a Marin 29er for some time

Both bikes look really good

Yeah, it’s the submarino I’ve got (as well as other GE stuff). I wear it probably a few times a year, usually with a black gilet

Quite bikey looking. I go for non bikey looking stuff now

Like this dhb merino polo. £19 was such a bargain I bought 3 and use some for work, going out

Pure marino is great. Can wear it for quite a few times before it even starts to smell. Wash on a 30° and they last long time

I’ve tried (still own) a merino blend Ground Effect long sleever and it’s just NO-WHERE near the full fat merino. Wouldn’t recommend

I’ve been using my Kona long sleeve merino jersey for the last few rides and it’s brilliant

Thin merino underneath, gilet over the top and it’s good to go. Wicks a treat

Got the first ride in last night on the Scraper rims Vee 3.25 front and 2.8 Trailblazer rear

I was totally loving it. The difference to start with riding over to collect a mate wasn’t too apparent, but once on the trail things started flying along a treat

The set-up certainly seems to bring out the good aspects of the Stooge, with reminders of the fat bike too – a good half way house

Some self steering from the Vee up front at pretty lowish pressure, but only on the road/tarmac

I’m sold :)

Cokie – yeah, MK1 and Scrapers

Wheelsets came up pretty lightweight feeling and clearance is ample with 2.8’s

The difference is pretty significant (Chronicle and 2.1 or something rear)

Highly recommended

I’ve got the upgrade blindness after last night’s hoon on the Stooge

Yes, the Vee 3.25 gives some self-steering on tarmac, but on the trail all is good

The 3.25 Vee was working splendidly last night

A little bit self-steerie on tarmac, but on the trail it was rocking

What about the Duro 3.25

Haven’t tried it, but looks OK

Reluctant – thanks for that. Helpful.

I’m liking the idea of the mesh liner now you mention it

Looking at all the ‘waterproof’ non-meshed jackets I can’t help thinking thick rain mac boil in the bag

Madison Telegraph is lovely! I’ve had one for at least two winters, it’s warm but vented, well sealed, waterproof in most circumstances
The hood is detatchable so works well on or off the bike.

The Stellar has taken over from the Telegraphe – have you come across one or know how they stack up against each other?

I’m beginning to think there’s no need for a jacket for ‘MTB’ ing (certainly not a ‘waterproof’ one)

Thanks for the replies

The Altura Mayhem looks OK, apart from all that neck and hood stuff going on

The Gore’s are quite slim fitting and bikey

Anyone using a Madison Telegraphe?

Ah yes, I had a Paradox for a while – very playful, but very harsh

Everyone who jumped on that started ragging it immediately which says a lot
