I know what you mean about the winter months and this winter has been made worse by the bloody rain but lets not go there as its not too bad out there today!!

I have a friend who as they say is (SAD) and he swears by the sun bed for what he says brightens his day and when i say brightens his day this guy has the bloody thing on in his bedroom for at least 2/3 hours a day but not for lying under getting bronzed up he just has it upright in the corner of his room blasting out the light!! But he swears it makes him feel better so who am i to argue if it makes him feel better on these dark, wet winter days!!! Personally only ever bother with them if am going away on holiday so don’t burn…

Had a few issues myself around October time with PX with regards a bike i bought and wasn’t 100% happy with but after a few telephone calls and Emails over the course of 2 weeks they eventually gave me a complete new bike which i have to say was 100% better than the original one they sent out to me, up until then i had never had any problems with them.

With regards that Email they sent you saying it was ready for dispatch i would get in touch and make a complaint or at least let them know how disappointed you are with whats happened, what you got to lose? and also had they taken payment from you? I think they will try to do something for you if you try.

I don’t mind the team kit but i won’t be going out to buy it as i think we all know on here its just for the mass public to spend cash on and we are all entitled to do what we want with our savings, but lets be honest with the year that cycling has had with being in the Newspapers or on the T.V for all reasons good or bad Cycling is now more than ever becoming dare i say it main stream, never mind if you can ride a bike or not everyone knows who Bradley Wiggins and company are now and they want more of them and Sky will give into that Demand, How long before we are being forced to pay for the Tour of France and the rest by having to Subscribe to Sky sports, its coming mark my words…There is now too much money to be made..!!

I have a decent set of Mavic Carbones but only bring out to play when doing an event as can’t afford to trash on Cumbrian roads and as for tyres i use Conti Grandprix(or something) and never gave tubes much thought really and yes they do make a difference when doing a event.

A new road bike is something i have been thinking about for a while now…That would make 5 bikes all for something different!!! lol…

Perhaps i should treat myself for Christmas then and see if what you are saying is correct, will it make me faster?? I average about 17mph on my PX on a normal lets say sunday ride and when you say they are more comfortable, how? why? is that not down to bike set up?

But i know what your saying, i upgraded to a Yeti from a specialized stumpjumper two years ago and noticed the difference straight away on the mountain bike.

I have a Planet x SL Pro carbon and payed a £1000 four years ago and the bike has been perfect for everything i have thrown at it!! So my advice would be a Planet x

oldgit would you explain what you mean when you say engineered? to propel you..

I have had PX SL Pro for a number of years now and have had no issues with mine what so ever and would never say the bike has felt flexy one bit and this bike has been used for everything from Sportives, Triathlons Time trials to my one and only Ironman, personally for the money i don’t think there is a better bike out there!

That said i have never ridden any other road bike of Top quality or Top price but if they can do half as well as the PX then it would be doing good!!

I have a twitter account but not used it yet and no i didn’t do the Skipton Rapha, have not heard of it to be honest. My first race went OK considering started at the back, liverpool went much better thought the course suited me though i bust my wheel going through that section were there was a stone/rock to the left of the line i should have taken(forced off line) which in return meant i had to bring HT into action yesterday but that was such a mistake as just couldn’t get going through the mud and it got worse as race went on but i still finished and came away with no damage to bike!

Am a member of VC Cumbria as I used to TT a while ago but have recently moved down Preston way and am just getting into CX, i don’t really race for anyone and don’t wear any club colours etc but am hoping to do all remaining races this year as my MTN bike days are going to be few and far between as just became a father and have managed to wangle a day pass for when ever there is a race+the GF can come along with the boy too, weather permitting as quite a good social side to these CX events, what about you Sefton, where are you? and do you race for anyone?

Beacon that’s the one! you had to dig deep didn’t you?! Have you done that course before? was talking to one guy who was watching on part of the course who says it’s always like that there?! Luckily i got away with no damage this week!

Would have to agree, I have done three races in the past three weeks and can’t wait until next weekend! I love it so much that even after busting my rear wheel last weekend i decided i didn’t want to miss out so brought my HT out to play, big mistake though as the course was a mud bath and i struggled! But i did finish and have learnt there is more to this game than i first thought! Bring on Liverpool next weekend!! 😀

I don’t think there is much happening around your way, am not to far away from you after moving to be with GF and new born and it seems pretty flat, though am from lakes so have been spoilt, as vortex says Rivington not far away and i done a ride with a group around Abbey Village which was OK but nothing special in regards the ride though good crack with the lads. I have never been to Delamere but let me know what its like if you go, I have decided to take up CX for the winter as my MTN bike days are looking pretty much over for now. 🙁

Thanks for the post, the brakes would be for a CX bike, thing that is concerning me is i don’t really get on with Avid brakes in general, how do you find setting them up? changing pads, maintence etc…

And if you could run any others on your CX bike what would they be?

My fingers are crossed for a dry weekend!!!

Tomorrow will be family day, the usual stuff to do but then Sunday i got my first CX race in Northwich and i can’t wait! i should have been riding my first event two weeks ago but the joy of moving house and becoming a father for the first time got in the way!! Bring it on

Forgot to say and CX will be done on a new bike…. 😀

Same issue as yourself but i have gone down the route of storage unit/space but that has issues, like one other poster had said about being organised, your always up and down and sometimes forgetting odd bits here and there but I would like to hope that my bikes are safe..Because a don’t know about most you guys but if they go i can’t afford to replace them!!!!

Personally I don’t think i would be happy or be able to sleep knowing they were just in a garage even if they were over looked by houses, but that said if you make it as secure as you can…but the buggers will get in if they want…

It makes me wonder if someone at your work is involved??!! No cctv and someone not wanting the bike left inside??!! just my thought…But i have to agree and i know its hard not too but riding that type of bike to work is asking for trouble, that said i hope it turns up in one piece

My tip would be to start with blue at whinlatter then progress up onto south, i took my GF who was non rider(never been on MTN bike) last year and she did great, you just need to take your time and help where needed, i.e get in front on top of south route and keep stopping and giving a little encouragement, meaning i told her to get off the brakes and let the bike roll over what tricky bits there may be and on the way up just sat behind and admired the view!!! mind you look on her face just rolling the tricky bits was fun too!!! ;-0

Suppose i should add that i did borrow a decent ladies MTN bike from LBS that added to her confidence…
