No punctures then? and guessing you ran with high pressure like i would with land cruisers?

I have been advised to go with faster/lighter tyres though am a little concerned with regards punctures, been running LC’S with high pressure and am descending really well and quick with no punctures so far!

Thanks for all the reply’s and advice i will have a look at the bike tomorrow and see if this problem can be sorted as it really is a concern with the peaks only a few weeks away.

pjt201 am sure it has a carbon steerer will double check tomorrow but perhaps what you suggest may be the answer.

I will also have a look at Hope integrated headsets and see if they will be any good.

MrOvershoot did you check your steerer to see if it’s carbon or not? and what type of riding are you doing out if interest? am interested as why i’m having problems and your not…

Once again thanks for the feedback

Just wrap something like a cloth/innertube around the area where you clamp to the down tube with the roof carrier, this should prevent any rubbing of the frame!!!

Nice story to be able to tell, you should have got his number/Email address then that way you could have seen if he could have done you a good deal on Yeti bikes??!! 😉

But seriously i think your bike looks sweet and am well jealous, I have a Carbon Yeti myself and they are top bikes and the Carbon they use(I hope) is the best you can get, and for me like you if i had to choose and had the cash it would be the Yeti no question! In fact you have got me thinking i should sell my 26” Yeti to help me fund a 29er like yours!… 😀

I think there is only one way to sort this…Why don’t you meet for a race!

ChunkyMTB £300 frame verses TheGingerOne’s £1800 frame! Both look nice but which is faster??!! 😀

Would like to think my training is going OK, though this is my first year at doing the 3 peaks so guess only time will tell.

I have only just started my biker hike skills today and all seemed to go pretty well considering i had never really walked up a steep rocky climb with my bike on my shoulder but have been told its all about technique so will keep practicing.

Fitness wise i should be OK as been getting in plenty of road and off road miles in on both CX bike and MTN bike.

If anyone fancies doing some specific CX/Peaks training then get in touch as i wouldn’t mind seeing where i am compared to others who have raced this event before(Lancashire Area) 🙂

Well I went out earlier to test my biker hike skills on a fairly rough and steep incline of around 1/4 mile and all in all i didn’t think it went to bad, I didn’t use any padding on either shoulder or any insulation lagging on the bike, decided just to man up and at first i thought i had made a big mistake as kept having to swap shoulders due to the pain! but i persevered and tried different techniques and i do believe i found a sweet spot on both shoulders where i could actually carry the bike with ease and without having to keep swapping sides!

I’m not saying i won’t use any padding but i think Crikey(above) is on to something with regards technique and i shall keep practicing as the weeks roll on.

One thing i did change was the way i grabbed the handlebar, instead of holding the end of the handlebar at the drops i actually grabbed the top of the bar just past the stem and that seemed to work for me.

Anyhow as said i shall keep practicing and will be out to find steeper climbs as the event draws closer and if anyone fancy’s some biker hike training then feel free to get in touch(Lancashire Area) 😀

It is my first time and i don’t and won’t underestimate how tough this event/race will be, i have an OK level of fitness and i have been building up over the last few weeks with some off road running up in the Lakes and also on some local moorland, on top of that i have been getting some good distance rides in and starting this weekend i will be starting to carry the bike on my shoulder for some good lengths of time, hence why i am asking about padding etc for the shoulder, as said i won’t underestimate this event/race.

Crikey thanks for your concern and i have taken in your words and will be doing the 3 hours of walking in the next week or two once i have built up to it, thank you.

And thanks to everyone else for there input, much appreciated.

Now time to find some top bar brakes at a good price??!!

This is what the guys at Cane Creek say?!

The cross tops are made for use with side pull brakes, they do not create enough cable pull to be effective with mechanical disc or linear pull brakes.

So MrSparkle you think they will work? Please bare with me as i am not always the most mechanically minded and i do appreciate your comments

I have done something similar on a few occasions and have used left over drink/gels a few days later after being kept chilled in the fridge and have never had any problems, so IMO you would be OK to use!

I have two Used Maxis advantage tubeless ready you can have for nothing but you have to pay for postage and packing? they both have a enough tread on to keep you going for a while.

They are around 3 years old now and have replaced due to finding a couple of small blebs on the front tyre after i had replaced the latex in them and was told that it had reacted with the inner casing because of there age, i ran this tyre for a month or so after i found the blebs and had no issues and replaced once i had the spare cash, totally understand if you want to pass.

    Up to you??!!

Could you not swap around the spacers and the stem so to lower the stem/handlebar? or go back to a longer stem?! And also shift your weight more when climbing etc

You really need to go to the police with case 1…it could be worse for someone else next time! Bloke sounds like a Nut job with issues against cyclists! Report!

As for Strava i know people who only ride when wind assisted just to have the chance to get KOM’s So would say your well within your rights not to edit the segment!

I actually think i must have knocked it off by accident and the dog ate it! 😆
