Well goosed then and am guessing you have had them off before and stripped the threads when you have replaced the cranks last time…oh oh

The other day i was about to start my latest build and i am still a novice IMO when it comes to bike, parts etc
but i know how threads work and as i went to attach the BB i noticed that after not even 1/4 turn and i had greased up the threads that without me adding more pressure than i wanted the BB felt IMO that it didn’t want to go any further..so i stopped and will be getting some advice form the LBS as last thing i want or need is to strip the threads on either the BB or mostly the Bike frame!!

Perhaps i am just being a little over cautious with still being a novice but better to be safe than sorry eh?!

Any advice from anyone one if they think i am being over cautious is welcome, it’s a Sram Gpx BB and was fitting to a On one frame and all threads on both frame and bottom Bracket(Brand new) look fine!

Sounds goosed to me, how long have you had it and have you re greased before with no problems?

Am assuming that the bolt will come out far enough to let you use a hack saw on it? so that may be your only solution and if that is so then it’s a new BB for you as i think you have guessed…

Crap and just when you wanted to get out and ride…

I see, now it all makes sense..well a little anyhow!!

So am a right in thinking then that the one above with the L pin will fit my Sram rival chain set that i intend to run on my Cross bike and should it not because the pin is too long i would be able to grind a little of until it did fit?!

What a carry on IMO all just to fit a chain ring!!! 😮

To be honest that was a complete guess and what do you mean by desperate?! How much do you think they go for?!

Am going to guess they around the £150 mark??!!

But am guessing they will be quality as i rate all the Syntace products i have had on my bikes…

But have to admit if they are super noisy then perhaps i wouldn’t bother

I have only ridden mine once this year and have thought about selling on quite a few occasions of late but perhaps posting these will help me get the bike out for a blast and make me realise what i am missing!!!

I used Crosstrax on many occasion when i lived over Yorkshire/Leeds way and always found the staff and the owner to be more than helpful and would recommend them to anyone.

You also have Woodrup cycles on Kirkstall Road and once again always found them to be helpful.

I think sometimes when you go into certain bike shops we as customers can perceive the staff or manager to come across as a little rude or arrogant or perhaps we as customers just expect staff or shop owners to jump at our every demand as soon as we walk in, but i quite like the fact that some bike shops are not like the majority of high St shops or certain so called major bike shops that want to get in your face to sell you this or that as soon as you walk in, whats wrong with a little quirky and the chilled out approach or the watching of a Mountain biking on DVD/you tube?! Thankfully we are not all the same!!

Am guessing it is chained up outside because they get a little fed up of people asking the same question every day…Good idea IMO

It wouldn’t surprise me though if it was down to the shop’s insurance or Health and safety…

What prompted the question was when i was cleaning the bike down this morning i noticed the lower jockey wheel on my main cross bike was like a throwing star and decided that i better get it changed before i race at the weekend but when i rang up my LBS they told me they had no Sram jockey wheels in stock and thats when i thought would i be able to just take the Shimano jockey wheel from another bike i have and the problem would be solved…

The rear mech on my cross bike is Sram Force and i was just hoping to use what i would call standard shimano jockey wheels in place of the jockey wheels that came with that mech….

I have had no problem with just using the existing bolt that came with the sram jockey wheels when putting through the shimano jockey wheel and round metal inserts…I have had to leave tinkering with the bike to go to a job so not had time to see how it affects the bike when i try to ride it…

Are we sure these can’t just be swapped??!!

I mean more at a steady pace, example…

An average of 15mph for 1 hour but because you are stationary and keeping same pace and same technique for the duration of that hour is that harder then say…

On the road where terrain/condition of road(Down hill) or wind could assist you so your average speed increased/decreased frequently thus making it easier or harder at times?!

    Hope that makes sense…

All that makes good sense and am thinking with what you have told me i may not have to bother adapting the chain length which will make life a lot easier!!!

Thank you for your advice and i shall post to let you know how i get on!!! 😀

TIRed when you say overlap do you mean have to extra links in the chain before going through the rear mech?

And are you saying that perhaps i won’t need to worry to much about chain length when reducing cassettes down from say 28 to a 26 or slightly less?

But am thinking i would need increase chain length when say going up to a 32 sprocket?

Hope all that makes sense??!! and thanks for your help…

I don’t need to change cassettes no but am at a stage with my racing where i want to try different ratio’s to find which one work better on certain courses, i have been picking up different cassettes on STW to do this,,

Am not sure what/if it will make any difference but i have been training better and thought why not, it’s something that i am wanting to learn and it may give me a few extra places over people running harder gears on certain courses…

Thanks fella i will try that over the weekend…

Also been thinking that perhaps if i am going to be changing cassettes quite often i should have 2/3 chains at the required lengths for each cassette…Is it worth doing???

I had the one out last year and the pain was unbelievable and lasted for at least 5/6 days!!! Also had to go back to dentist for the wound to be cleaned up twice! And i done what the dentist suggested! One of the most awful experiences of my life!!!

Now i must remember to clean my teeth and use those tiny brushes for my gums!!!

I also run BB7’s and they have great stopping power and also like some have said have also had issues with rubbing and have spent far too much time trying to set up correctly to avoid this..but at the moment they are running fine!!

I did consider going to bed a little earlier last night but as a said it was around 10pm when i fell asleep and would have said that i felt tired but couldn’t sleep at first.

Am starting to think it’s the adrenaline like a few people have said and a just need to learn to somehow switch off but without the use of alcohol which these days is limited to very little due to training, work and having a 14 month Son who awakes usually before me though not today!

But next time i do a long ride or a tough event/race i will see if going to bed a little earlier helps, can’t do any harm…

Over training?? I have picked my training up quite a bit of late and never thought of that as an answer!

Surly you would have thought getting home sorting the house, My son then making the tea would be enough to unwind after good days riding, perhaps it’s just my brain won’t switch off, one thing for sure though i will sleep well tonight!

I also did the Malham Tarn challenge and also called it a day just after half way but not because of the weather but because i took a wrong turn at the cross roads(No marshall) was very disappointed as was going quite well up to that point, but you have brought back the memories of how wet and cold that day was!!

And i have also got the possibility should i choose of doing the first Cross race in the NWCCA on Sunday, thing is am doing the 3 peaks and think the MTL will put me in good stead…God sometimes i hate making decisions!

Well it turns out it was the bung in the steerer which has been the problem and hopefully now that is the problem sorted once and for all.

Thanks to everyone for there help and opinions and thanks to a guy called Wayne from Planet X who finally rang me back and helped sort this problem…
