the calipers are the same front and rear, so you should be able to keep your original rotors and mounts on the bike and just swap the juicy calipers for the BB7s.

Just out of interest why are you swapping? I’ve got BB7s at the moment and was thinking about replacing them with juicys when they die (IF they die!). Don’t you like the juicys?

all i know is that you never get anyone complaining about grip from a high roller. they’re cheap, grippy and good all year round. lots of people complain about skitty mountain kings though

cant say about mountain kings although i was thinking about getting some myself until i heard they were pap. get yourself a high roller 2.35 maxxpro 60a kevlar folding. They dont weigh more than a kenda small block 8, they weigh less than a single ply non-folding high roller and for a tyre with so much grip theyre pretty fast. For me, the perfect tyre.

I’m not pregnant but i have had extensive surgery followed by a long recovery period over which time my lab couldn’t cope and had to employ someone else. My contract would have been up for renewal if i wasn’t in hospital at the time. I’ve since had an interview with the same company for a different post and didn’t get the job on the grounds that i was recovering from surgery and wasn’t able to lift heavy objects. I’ve had several interviews since then but nobody wants to employ me because in about 8-12 months time i’ll be having more surgery. They haven’t said this is the case but it’s becoming obvious – one place said they were employing someone who lived closer even though i mentioned in the interview that i was all set up and ready to move if i got the job.

times are hard at the moment and her company will want someone who’s primary focus now and in the future will be the company. If i were your wife i’d count herself lucky that she’s still being offered work. maybe her being pregnant has just tipped the balance in favour of her not being made redundant…. just a thought.

watch out for the wooden bridges – they are deathly slippy this time of year. had a face-plant on the one on “mortitia” on Dragon’s back and almost knocked my teeth out!

my mate has a 5 with 36’s and i’ve got a heckler with 32’s and he usually just pips me on the climbs so i suspect there’s not much in it. his bike is a pound lighter than mine with a lighter wheelset. he does get some bob when they’re set on 160 though but he says it’s not enough to bother him.

The problem is when you have done a few bikes, you can’t wait to do another

tell me about it, i’ve just broken one down and sold it due to under-use and i’m looking at I_Ache’s Blur 4X thread and thinking mmmmmmmmmmmm…….

I dread to think what i’d be capable of if i actually had money

rich-6 i too got my heckler frame off here and i love it to bits. I always get comments on how nice it looks and it’s great to be able to tell them i built it myself. respect!

jonb i’m with you on the building my own thing, although as peterpoddy and a few others on here have noticed there are some great deals now on bikes like the Pitch. It’s easy enough to get a half price set of bars/stem /seatpost/saddle on here too if the finishing kit dosen’t grab you.

how much did you pay for your demo SQ? is it heavy?

chapking that very cheeky what you do with the bike to work thing

crc do that alot. like if you want the 4 bolt 36t chainring instead of the 5 bolt 36t or the 4 bolt 32t.

you cannot really compare a brand new OTP with a collection of 2nd hand parts

it depends where you get them from soobalias. STWers quite often sell some very nice kit in pristine condition, sometimes for half the rrp. If you know a thing or two about bike bits/compatability etc and you have a few tools, STW is a bike fettler’s wet dream

grumm, i’m running a mix of well chosen new and second hand parts, with a second hand frame. new cranks, cassette, second hand XTR rear mech, new bars and stem, etc etc. it’s cost considerably less that OTP, more than a thousand pounds less, and probably about 1.5 grand less than all the parts bought at RRP. i was lucky with the deal on the frame and forks though.

as for the failed shock, it just seems silly that my mate paid 2k+ for his bike and the shock broke after a couple of months when i paid under half that for my bike built from a second hand frame and shock and it’s been fine. My mate dosen’t even know how to change his own gear cables – he takes it to the bike shop and they charge him 40 quid every time.

petrpoddy i’m running a 36 and bash, grumm yes you’ll need a 36t bashguard for a 36t chainring. CRC do a steel Deore one for 8 quid but they were out of stock last time i looked. If you don’t mind spending a bit more try the Middleburn hardcote ones for about 25

Theyre rubbish! they’re not cartridge bearings and if you do any riding in the wet the bearings will rust and leave a brown muddy paste. after that its just a matter of time before it dies. Tell your lbs you can get an FSA XL2 on ebay for 22 quid. DO NOT buy the pig!

well i doubt you’ve got flu mike because you’d be laid up in bead sweating your t*ts off now if you had. flu’s a pretty nasty virus and you don’t catch it by going out in the cold to clear a bit of snow off your drive. secondly, if you had something wrong with your immune system you’d be suffering with all sorts of little bacterial/fungal skin disorders, rashes, prickly heat, hives etc.

Diet is often shunned as a reason for getting colds by people who eat badly and never seem to get ill, but since colds are also viruses it just means they haven’t been exposed. many of the vitamins you get from eating fruit and veg are enzyme co-factors and without them the enzymes in your body work slower and less efficiently. to keep your immune system in pristine condition you need all these co-factors to help it produce all the complex biomolecules involved in an immune response in good time to fight off infection. If you haven’t got these co-factors when you need them your immune system will be slow to react and the virus will take hold. There’s nothing wrong with taking a multivitamin daily to help you get the most out of the food you eat.

first thing i noticed with a full sus was the way it grips the trail and compresses into corners for more traction. i loved it! i didn’t like the way my hardtail chattered over fast rocky sections. One thing that confused me was that on the hardtail it was easy to lift the front end and keep it lifted for clearing drops, but on the full sus the first time i tried it the back end squished up and rebounded sending me nose first off the drop! i’m still not good at them for this reason if anyone’s got any advice it’d be much appreciated!

this might be a bit cynical but i can’t help feeling that howies do this sort of thing to justify charging high prices: “yes it’s expensive, but howies are trying hard to make a difference so for the extra money i’ll buy this wooly hat at 3 times the price and everyone will think i’m cool”. but just how much of a difference are they making? what good is sending someone by train to visit the factory going to do? to me its a no brainer:it’s a publicity stunt. an opportunity to showcase a lot of howies clothes. what’s the bet the guy reports back and says “my howies so-and-so jacket was just the job for this situation blah blah blah…”

them pretending to make the world a better place by doing these things just dosen’t wash with me. like the model cutting bread on the beach, it’s nothing but a photo opportunity. the fact that they send a 150 page paper catalogue with every online order while the customer pays for postage just shows how aggressive their marketing really is.

I used to be the guy on the specialized hardrock and before that a GT and before that a fully rigid marin pine mountain that i bought for 50 quid (i loved that bike!). both were stolen, so in a fit of rage i vowed to build a better, faster hardrock with better-than-RST suspension. i sold the GT and spent the money on parts for my hardrock beast. Then the police found my stolen hardrock! so i sold that on ebay and used the money to buy some new second hand forks. Then i found my dream frame on STW! It was a bargain. i built it up with parts off my hardrock and now i’m happy as a pig in poo. If it ever got stolen i’d be back at square one but i’d probably build the same bike from a second hand frame. I’m not posh, educated maybe, resourceful for certain.

yes Drac i understand the answer now thanks. GrahamS is right but that just makes him a smug git for posting a question that he knew the answer to in the first place.

    bomberman

also theres the possibility that out of the cross section of 100 families a certain percentage will have twins/ triplets/ octuplets. Riddle me that one GrahamS

    bomberman
    Free Member

It is 50/50 on every flip – that doesn’t mean it will come out exactly 50/50

so why are you using the 100 families theory then?

Thing was at the start you claimed it was 0.66 or 66%.

yes because i was sure that the chances of it being a boy were higher as she had said she had a girl and i was thinking that that lowered the chances of it being a girl twice. I soon saw sense though

    mixed
    GG
    BB (eliminated)

when you look at it like that it’s really quite simple

    bomberman

girl/boy and boy/girl are the same IN THE CONTEXT OF THIS QUESTION. the coins comparison does not work because it distinguishes between left and right which adds another variable. a variable which is not in any way aparrent in the OP.

    bomberman

It does exist the combination is still there but some can’t see that.

i must be one of the blind ones then drac, or maybe you’re looking for something that simply isnt there. if i had been so smug from the start of this thread i’d be looking for a way out of admitting i was in the wrong too.

    read the question:

what are the odds that she has a girl and a boy?

not what are the chances that she has girl boy and not boy girl??

    bomberman
    Free Member

yes but we’re not talking about holding each child in a particular left or righ hand! you are adding a left/right variable that simply dosent exist in the original question! if you can’t understand this then i guess i’m the more intelligent one!
