I can ride my MK2 heckler all day long. new wheels and cassette have brought it in at just over 28lbs and i can feel the difference. the only compromise i’ve got at the moment is i’m running an old TALAS fork with 130mm travel and sometimes crave an extra inch (don’t we all ;) ). but aside from that it’s just a joy to ride. Ace bike.

Why not sell up and build yourself a custom heckler?

i know the feeling. a friend of a friend wanted a full sus and had about a grand to spend. he just bought the first bike he liked the look of on Ebay, even though the reviews only pitched it at a 3.5/5 rating (felt, either a compulsion or redemption) Now he’s complaining because the brakes are a bit crap and the chain rubs on the front mech. I’ve told him he can fix all this pretty easily but he dosen’t seem to take it on board. It’s as though he just wanted his hands on a new bike as soon as possible.

is the smiley face warning a 30mph thing or do they use it for different limits? i’ve set the one down copley hill off on my mtb :)

rode the lapierre, but rode both a spicy and a zesty, and to me the zesty was the better bike – like a jackal up the hills and took everything stainburn trail could throw at it whereas the spicy was slower up the hills and didn’t seem any better on the downs. i have a friend with a specialized epic and he has had loads of problems with the rear shock. my other riding buddy has an orange five with a fox36 talas and it beasts rocky downhills. i CANNOT keep up with him on my heckler and that’s with both of us pedalling full tilt. fox forks will last a long time if you look after them properly, mine are 2004 and the stanchions are as good as new. it’s all relative. all i can say is that the orange is a great all rounder and with a bit more upfront can excell on downhills, the spicy gets good reviews – maybe it wasn’t set up properly for me but the zesty equalled it on the downs and beat the pants off it on the climbs.

pimp it up and get an orange 5 with a TALAS 150mm. you know you want to!

all the feedback says virtually the same thing with a spelling error that crops up to often to be real

So what brakes are on it at the moment and what dont you like about them?

i say locozade sport and glass of milk should give you a pretty good balance. Bit of maltodextrin, few proteins and not too much fat. then eat pasta for tea :)

biochemist here. i can tell you that carbs are your best bet for recovery closely followed by proteins and that fats have a negative effect on carbohydrate absorbtion – so cheese, being mostly fat is not the best thing to cane after a workout. milk is an emulsion of fats and protein so basically it dosent have a significant amout of carbohydrates and it also has a bit too much saturated fats which negate the whole carb-absorbtion process.

your best bets for quick fix recovery are drinks containing the carbohydrate maltodextrin. i know lucozade sport and supermarket alternatives, and things like torq have this in as one of the main perks. added proteins help build muscle. im aware that creatin is the main component of “muscle gain” proteins but i think this is a bit different to the recovery nutrition you’re after.

no, the sealing isn’t CRAP, in fact it’s pretty good – just the lower race needs keeping an eye on.

yeah the lower race on the xl2 is where you get dirt creeping in. they can be had for £20 off ebay though and the bearings on mine lasted more than a year before i overtightened it and had to replace them. only then was it i noticed the lower set were rusty. pretty good for £20!

I started this thread asking a perfectly reasonable question of ‘should i pay for the item if the seller isn’t responding to emails’ and some people feel the need to use that as a platform for abuse. I’m sure 99% of the people who seem to say what they want on here would never say it face to face in real life, which is why i invited Mr pk-ripper to come and discuss it over a nice friendly cuppa. After all, it’s easy for him to swear and shout at me from behind his keyboard, isn’t it? and if you check back through the thread i think you’ll find that PK was the one who lowered the tone with his aggressive language. F*ckety – this and P*ss this. not nice is it? even with letters blanked out. what if my kids had read that?
