I’ve just had the exact same problem and it was the seals which i’ve now replaced and no leaks whatsoever. All you need is as said above a seal kit from mojo, some PJ1 10w fork oil (or any other high quality motorcycle fork oil) and a 10mm socket to undo the bottom nuts on your fork.

If you’re just changing the seals you won’t even need to buy new fork oil but while youre there it might be worth doing it anyway.

1 – find out how much oil you’ll need in the damper side leg
2 – remove the fork from the bike and secure it upside down
3 – unscrew the bottom buts
    4 – remove the lowers
5 – tip the fork the right way around over a pan to collect the oil. pump the damper to release the oil stored in it.
6 – use an open ended spanner to lever out the old seals
7 – fit the new seals
8 – pour new oil into damper side leg
9 – slide lowers back on over stanchions taking care not to mess up your new seals
10- screw the 10mm bottom nuts back on

That’s a rough guide but basically all you need to do. MOJO website (mojomedia>seal maintenance) gives a detailed step by step video. They’re not changing the oil so they leave the fork on the bike and just turn the bike upside down, but if you want to change the oil you’ll need to turn the fork upside down to tip it out.

    Good luck! :)

It sounds like you’re riding in muddy forests. Nothing except a mud tyre will grip really well in mud, and wet roots are wet roots – slippy for most tyres. I’ve ridden a swampthing before and compared to that they’re not as good in mud but theyre still pretty good.

They grip better on corners if you lean in. Where they excell is on the loose mixed stuff. little twigs and leaves etc.

I’ve had a high roller maxxpro 60a on the front all winter and its been fine – tried a super tacky version which i found way too draggy. I ran mine at 35-38psi. compared to the super tacky i found it to be pretty fast but now the weathers come dry again i’m onto a kenda small block 8 which is the fastest tyre i’ve ever ridden. All depends on how and where you ride and what tyres you had on before.

If you like the kendas just sell the high rollers and get some more? not the end of the world is it :)

    I came 43 ish out of 200 odd riders,2 hours 20mins :)

I really enjoyed the course actually it was nice to see my local route varied and added to with lots of cheeky trails that i never even knew existed. Some bits of that route i have done time and time again so had a bit of an advantage, like the trail over norland moor. I think i’ll ride that one again a couple of times.

Its a clarke 3″ bench vice, but having a look on tinternet myself it seems you can pick one up for fairly cheap (about£15) so not really worth you coming over for it. The other one i’ve got is a second hand record 8″ woodworking vice but that’s a right beast and i doubt you’ll want it

TJ – spot on about backing off a bit on off days, especially if you’re used to pushing on technical bits. it just takes a lapse in concentration and before you know it you’re praising your Giro ;)

I had a strange ride lastnight binned it in the woods over the bars and when i got up onto the moors it was strange nobody there, windy as hell and dusky and couldn’t see the rocks because of the flat light. Had “Highway to hell” stuck in my head all the way round! even the cows were freaking me out :?

i second MOJO website. did an oil/seal change this morning after watching the vid at Mojomedia>seal maintenance. Very helpful! didn’t realise you can change the oil and seals just by taking off the lowers every time. all the rebound and talas top cap gubbins can stay on fully charged. All you need is a 10mm socket for the bottom nuts 8)

Take the factory job and if you get the good job just tell them to **** off! unless they pay monthly (which i doubt) then what have you got to lose?? Times are hard at the moment you have to take EVERY opportunity you can.

I’ve had a lot of time on my hands lately since i finished my degree. i got sacked, my girlfriend got deported, i finally got my first decent job and then i got ill and lost my job because of it. Sometimes it gets me down, it feels like everyone else is having a good life and i’m stuck here in mine. Its just an illusion. I ride my bike and play my guitar and thats what keeps me sane. Buy a guitar and learn a few tunes, it’s amazing how relaxed i feel afterwards – keeps the brain active :)

SO….. i’ve been offered a very nice canon 400D which in all honesty am probably going to end up buying. What are the chances of me getting something like the shot of Ed-O on his ibis mojo? you know the one…. black and white.. silver p*sspot lid and goggles. lots of rocks.

tim, did you take off the talas and rebound knobs etc at the top of the stanchions or did you just unscrew the bolts at the bottom of the lowers and remove the crown/steerer/stanchon assembly in tact?

Its Xpedo NOT Xpeado! a peado is a child molesterer! I’ve got the Xpedo mx mag pedals which arent made anymore. You’ll be lucky to get any pins for them unless you try some for other brands.

Is the lack of autofocus on a standard D40 lens going to be an issue?

The issue is that the camera will not autofocus old lenses with no internal focus motor. Newer lenses will work fine

im just after a cheap, basic setup. i havent got a clue what lens comes standard with a d40 or if it will autofocus :)

does anyone else second the comment above about nikon taking better images? i’ve seen some great images taken with nikon DSLRs but i have no idea what lenses people are using. Is the lack of autofocus on a standard D40 lens going to be an issue? i seem to remember using my sisters canon 400D and focusing manually anyway, would it have let me do this set in auto mode?

the shot i am thinking about taking (just as an example, obviously i wont be buying a camera just to to take one shot!) is of a rider coming down a large set of stone steps in a woodland area. I’d be stood at the bottom about 10m away from the subject. there are trees overhead. would a lack of autofocus mean getting someone to stand halfway down the steps first so i can dial in the focus? if i’m going to be taking mountain biking pics then either i’m going to have to be quick-draw-mcgraw on the focus or take some time to set up the shot first, right?

and another thing. on the camera finder on flickr, a lot of the pics are photoshopped/altered after the pic has been taken, arent they?

i just picked a couple of extremes there to get a rough idea of price! I’ve got loads of questions obviously since i know nothing about cameras. I’m guessing the standard 18-55 lens would be ok for most mtb shots as long as i’m not too close or too far away

How much would am i looking at second hand for a 200mm lens and a fisheye for the canon?

    bomberman
    Free Member

thanks i’ll look into both of those. I’ve decided i can spend £100 on a point and shoot compact camera, or wait a while and get a second hand DSLR. everyone on facebook has loads of pictures of themselves out on the p*ss. I’ve decided i would rather have lots of quality biking photos. i’ve got a feeling they’ll be much more interesting!

Do you know if either of those cameras will do B+W photos?
