    Chucky – interesting.

That's also another random thought at the mo. Go for both! Soul with 120mm Maxle Reba for general duties, and burly build BFe for being really silly.

Yes, SS MTB an interesting prospect, perhaps in 29er flavour would be good on the road too?

Cyclo-cross also a good option – Genesis vapour or day one look tempting

All good points, and some of the thoughts going through my mind too.

What about something like Curtis where it's more 'tweaking' to your own preferences?

Had sim problem fitting a top swing to frame, prefer them as mud doesn't get caught in it leading to early demise.

Dremel to the band to cut a small semi circle cutaway, and hey presto band up snug to hole. Been running for a year.

Sorry I'm wrong end of the country to you otherwise you'd be welcome to try my Hummer.

I demo'd at Mountain Mayhem a couple of years back, Cove (Silverfish) do some other events too I believe.

Yup 36 ring up front, still using the old long cage RD though, hence why I wondered if chain would be a bit short.

5' 8" with 32" inside leg and ride a 17" Hummer, rode a 17.5" HJ for a while. I see you mention the Altitude – I loved the 17", fit me perfectly so surprised you find it OK at your height, but if you do I would suggest the 17" HJ will be fine.

2nd the Balvenie, but prefer Old Pulteney or Macallan as previously mentioned by Chipps – sounds like you may have similar taste buds to me so I suggest one of those to follow the the Glenmorangie.

    Singleton OK too

I'm a smidge over 5'8" and rode a 17.5" for a few rides – absolutely loved it, perfect fit for me.

Stiffee is a great bike, but why change from the Apline? IMO you'll gain nothing

    UNTIL – It broke.
How in the name of all that's holy did you manage to break a Hummer? Jedi used to do 10ft+ drops on his IIRC!

Ahem, something to do with the 08 version 😉

Another broke same way 2 weeks later…. 😯

Im having the same Ti itchy thing for no reason other than I havent had a new bike in a while and Ive never done Ti before

The thing is Im trying to justify the cost over steel/aluminium

And so Id be interested to hear your reasons for justifying Ti

Seriously, Im not taking the mickey, why do you want Ti over steel/alu?

I'm a Hummer rider and no I cannot 'justify' it financially. It's just one of those things you are either prepared to spend out on, or not.

I've had a Soda – Nice for singletrack, copied with Spain fine, but there was always something not quite right.

2008 Hummer much better, much more me, best bike I'd ridden.

UNTIL – It broke. 2010 Lynskey Hummer now and it really is fab, better than the 2008 and therefore the new best bike I've ridden. But whilst waiting for it I rode a Genesis Altitude and really liked that, on a par with the 2008 Hummer for me.

If I didn't already have the Ti and was buying now? Genesis Altitude or Curtis Freeride, and the rest would go towards a full sus play bike.

is there anything else I'm missing (apart from custom) that would fit the bill?

When you say that, would you consider Curtis?

    bobster

Personally I'd never go XTR – XT/SLX is enough.

That aside, riding a 2010 Hummer and love it, I've had a Soda before and this just suits me better. BUT – If I was buying now, I'd go steel, probably custom.

Thanks for the suggestion of a Yaris, tried one back to back with a Micra and we both agreed it was the better car – deposit paid, and excitedly awaiting it now.

Had looked at the Yaris but put off with the recent Toyota issues.

Tried the Suzuki swift and I liked it but my wife doesn't.

Fiesta, she can't reach the pedals, and new shape she can but out of our price range.

Any other suggestions from those that don't like the Micra?

107 – I loved driving it, wife didn't, boot way too small.
    207 – Didn't like driving position
    C1 – See 107 above
    Clio – Just No
Ka – Wife loved it, but seats don't come forward far enough for kids getting in the back
Fiat 500 – Similar to Ka above
    Panda – Too basic
Corsa – Didn't like the drive

    130-140mm and lightish XC????

If you want 130-140mm, from your list:

2008 Hummer – Best bike I've owned (Until)
    2010 Hummer – Blows the 08 away

If 120mm will do – Genesis Altitude – very impressive, somewhere between above 2

    Custom? – Curtis

    Have ridden both, like both.

If funds genuinely are tight, stick with the 853, you'll be really happy – I even questioned if I should move back to it from Ti during a prolonged no bike experience due the Hummer failing…..

however, if you actually 'want' the Ti – do it, you'll always wonder. I originally wanted a Hummer back in about 2002, finally scratched that itch in 2008 having almost got there once before and always wondering at the back of my mind.

Apart from the feel when riding, one thing I love about Ti is how easy it is to clean up, no paint chips/rub to worry about – daft, but it's something I like.

    Hummer's rock.

Only briefly hopped on the 456 though.

Prefer my nice 2010 Lynskey built Hummer to the previous 08 Litespeed one – but both great.

Drove an auto once for a week, 1st morning, up at 5am and forgot I was in it, first junction left foot down on 'clutch' – I'll never forget the look on the van driver's face behind me.

Tried both – preferred the Pace.

Very nearly bought one, until I sorted my Hummer 😉

Also tried a Genesis Altitude which was slightly better than the Pace IMO

Liking the look of that, can't tell from the pic but bigger berms could be fun – when will it be officially open? I want to check it out once it's up and running.

Depends if you want bar mount or helmet mount.

Having seen a Diablo in use on the lid, it's very tempting with a triple cell to boost run time. I want to try this out and see if I prefer it to running the Maxx-D I have on the bars at the moment, or maybe have both!
