80psi will do it for sure

Based on my similar experience with 30mm Pro Ones on Hunt carbon 40 rims, chuck it in the bin and get some GP5000s. I really struggled to get the Pro Ones to evenly snap on the bead.

They were also swines to get on the rims using levers..

The 30mm GP5000 went on easily with just hands and popped on first time with the inflator.

Manufacturing tolerances are crazy, I have the exact same wheels and the Pro Ones went on fine with just a track pump, but GP5000s while not hard to get on still needed the airshot.

BB58 here, wanted one since they came out, ticked every box except that it was a tad big (all my watches are 34/36) but figured I’d never really notice 3mm. And I didn’t, until the BB54 came out. If I try one on, the 58 will have to go.

Can anyone remember which movie he was in, he was driving a convertible and he picked up a hitchhiker, a young lass, and one of the things he said to her was “hell I’ve got socks that’s older than you”
It really tickled me, but I can’t remember which movie it was.

I haven’t seen Convoy since I was a kid but wasn’t that Ali McGraw driving the E-type convertible?

Think I have had one for years, undiagnosed tho. Numbness then burning then searing pain in one foot after 4+ hours biking or running, less in hot weather. Tried all sorts of pedals, shoes and insoles, in the end I can “reset” it by taking the shoe off so I’ll just live with it.

My decision criteria is just, which one haven’t you worn for ages? Then I’m forced to wear it for a week or three.
Backfired when I chose my yellow Moonswatch, which is basically illegible thanks to the colour scheme. But got me wearing my 34mm early 60s OP again after spending years in the bottom of my sock drawer. Just swapped the rattly old stretched bracelet for a fabric (apple skin!) strap and it’s barely off my wrist now even for running/biking (can’t see the time on my smartwatch without pressing a button, so I wear two watches…)

NA friend had mashed his mech and chain so I had to set him up singlespeed. One of those occasions where a 2-3 hour walk would have been necessary otherwise.

Same. Never for a broken chain. The few times I remember were because of a broken mech or hanger, once midway thru a stage of the Camino de Santiago – managed to get the last couple of hours to Burgos, and a bike shop, on singlespeed. Could equally have got a taxi, but then I wouldn’t have ridden the whole thing!

Pah, rim brakes for the win.

Yeah. I’m tempted to think that, after decades of fairly hassle-free braking lol
Without turning this into rim vs disc, it does seem the big advantage of discs is to brake as fast as the disc-braked rider in front. And I largely ride alone!

Anyway, Ultegra rotor on, 50€ poorer, and we’ll see if we can warp it.

    bob_summers

Well Ultegra rotor ordered, see if that cures it, I can reuse the old ones on my commuter . The pads are finned on 105 already but the rotors appear to be junk. Had more confidence on these hills when I was riding rim brakes with cork pads and explodey carbon rims.

    160. I have confidence in them on long fast descents. Woeful on the steep stuff.

I live at the top of the Rhiwr and I can turn discs blue, but not had them warp, I’d expect better.

Heh mine have gone through blue to light brown! Chwarae teg on having to get up that on the way home!

    bob_summers
    Full Member

OK, I’ll try Ultegra. They’re 30€ more expensive, but I guess I only need the front one. It’s just weird that my old bike never did this, bought new with 105 kit but just threw the cheapest replacement on when the rotors wore out. Did brakes get more powerful? Or did I get fat? Lol

Bordeaux would be a dead loss for riding, I dunno about further East. Two drivers – St Malo – San Sebastián easily. Plenty riding around here, then Aínsa is a 3h drive.
I don’t ride much now, but I run in Aínsa a lot, and I would be tempted to save my legs tbh ;)

pretty low key here. Starts 24th eve, few drinks in the local then home for nibbles with our grown-up nieces while I do 3/4 of the cooking for next day (traditionally dhosas, biryani and a couple of side dishes).25th a few pressies (10yo only gets pressies from us, half a dozen things max), they go to visit her mam and I have a long run in the hills. Xmas dinner usually served at about 10:30pm after another couple in the local :)

I’d wait for a UK buyer, tbh. You can put “repaired watch” on the declaration and hope no-one asks to see proof, but since the B-word, ES and DE postal services apply a handling fee even if no duty to pay.
I won’t buy anything from the UK now (blame lies with the petty behaviour of Correos when handling UK shipments, but not bothering when it’s coming from US or China etc)

I like those. They don’t seem particularly expensive either, considering the chronograph is 540€ with a 100€ (retail) Seagull movement in it. I’ve had that movement in a chrono, problem free and the Sellita in the 3 hander is a great movement too. Interesting they didn’t go for an automatic caliber though.

I’ve never used DHGate, just mentioned it because if a watch has been faked, it will be on there. They photoshop the logos off to avoid detection, not just watches but football shirts, designer clothes. The goods that arrive will have Boss or Gucci etc on them*. If they don’t get nuked at customs.

I still don’t believe that’s been faked. Possibly a pallett of them has gone out the back door of the factory.

*The only reason I know this bc a 13yo student comes to class dressed head to toe in Gucci or Armani XD he says his mam gets it all from DHGate…

    bob_summers

I doubt anyone would commit to tooling up to make a fake of that. You could search the model on DHGate and see if it exists?
Quartz, hollow bracelet links, I’m certainly not paying over 80 for it.

Jogged past your house last month Spekkie, stayed at the campsite in Ainsa for a mini break before school started.
Ran up to Morcats and back – stunning as always but very overgrown compared to a couple of years ago. Seems to be a new (?) veggie restaurant in Guaso too, didn’t get chance to try it.

That’s the fun thing about Wales rugby. You probably know someone who went to school with a top player, or if not you know someone who does. Jamie Roberts went to the same primary school as my kids

Was it Jac Morgan who was doing the press conference after one of the group games and recognised his old PE teacher who was there as a reporter for Radio Cymru, and said “I gyntaf, haia Miss!”

I went Android to Apple for the 13 mini as no-one else seemed to do a small (ie fit in the gel pocket of my running shorts) phone. Now it seems there’s zero demand for them :(

not everyone has access to a recharging solution daily…

I remember when they were called plug sockets!

I bought the “Sun” Moonswatch last year (on a whim passing the store in Bordeaux) – legibility of white hands on gold dial is terrible, poor quality compared to a Seiko 5 around the same price, etc… but I still wear it a lot. I do love a quartz chrono, it comes in handy for something at work I’d rather not do with a $$$ mech chrono!

Of my entire collection, it’s the only one a stranger has ever commented on.

Inov8 are brilliant.  Inov8 are pretty awful. Nowt quite as polarising as shoes or tyres!

Basque coast/pyrenees here, so little mud, more fireroad and technical rock up to scrambling. Lots of cliff paths!

Roclites worked fine but an update lost the toe bumper: my hobbit toes always punch a hole in the upper if there’s no reinforcement. Lasted six runs before grit was getting in the hole. That’s not their fault though.
Nike Terra Kiger work brilliantly and just fit. Despite being named after a local race, their Zegama is too cushioned/high – ankle sprain recipe on technical rocks for me. Pegasus cope on most runs, but ridiculous road shoe sticking-out heel can catch on steps down.  The new model is more road than trail, too.
Bought Fujitrabucos from Decathlon in an emergency (someone nicked my Zegamas while they were drying on the roof of the van lol) and they’ve been absolutely fine.

I’d have beaten you to the comment if I hadn’t faffed about trying how to do the accent on the a

easier to use the Basque name – no accents!

Very much my local roads from Udana onwards, looking forward to it. To echo the comment about the roads – the descent from Jaizki is a stunner but near the bottom under the trees the tarmac never sees sun and could be greasy. Same on Alkiza to some extent, have had a nasty off coming down there in mizzle.

The Vostock has been mothballed for over a year of course, what’s the view on wearing them now?

I still wear my Raketa. Has no military theme to it though. Not sure that mothballing it would serve any more purpose than not wearing a Smiths during the UK’s illegal Iraq invasion :/

Hmm, I’ve done a few over the years and it was never checked. Sometimes with last year’s photoshopped, sometimes just turned up without.

    However…

I had to do it properly for my Spanish competition license (local gym had a qualified person to sign me off), ramp test, bloods etc, and I thought it was worth the money tbh.  The federation would not accept a resting ECG done by a GP, it had to be under stress.
    Worth considering?

Cheers, I’ll see if I can find out about the transport. Nefyn is only 20m away by bike, but dunno what the roads are like – my 10yo isn’t used to riding in traffic

Yeah I just asked my sis who’s stayed out there a couple of times and she just laughed at the idea of rocking up in August with nowt reserved.

Was looking at Nefyn, looks to be some decent trail running round there.. Yr Eifl too.

Family doesn’t share my enthusiasm for the Cymraeg festivities so I need to keep an eye out for other stuff even if it’s just walks and pubs

Suppose this one will get closed now, having not been about the OP since page one. Does nobody get banned anymore for wilfully and repeatedly dragging threads so far off topic?

I’m buying a Porsche, better go learn how to speak / pronounce German”

I’m talking about Roger and Linda who’ve owned a house in Betsy Code for 25 years and mispronounce the name as a badge of honour. Yeah it’s not something limited to monoglot English speakers, I hear similar sentiments here from Madrileños who own property on the Basque coast, but that perverse pride in not speaking a word of forren is disproportionately evident in the English IMO.

If you live in, or visit Wales (or anywhere else), why not make at least a token effort? Especially when it’s a minority language that at times has been precariously close to going extinct.

What’s any of this got to do with the OP? Seems like posting anything about Cymraeg really does bring out all the loons.

Nobody cares what the NP is called. I’ll call it y Bannau Brycheiniog, same as I’d call Uluru or Myanmar by their 2023 names. Some will keep on using the Sais name, like they say Betsy Code, Laneli, or Majawca because of some perceived shame in pronouncing forren words proper (despite being the kind of person to lecture you on how to pronounce a French grape varietal). There’s a group of business owners kicking up a fuss about the “new” name, insisting on it being bi-lingual. Except none of these businesses use Cymraeg on their websites. The don’t actually mean bi-lingual… do they…

Anyway, they have 40 followers on Twitter: https://twitter.com/OurBBNP, which hasn’t stopped the Mail & BBC getting on board their crusade. I almost wish I lived nearer so I could make a point of never darkening any of their doors.

I went to Saudi a couple of years ago for a short break. its a really interesting place, with massive changes and disparity in how conservative different areas of the country are. I’d reccomend it for someone who wants to understand a different culture rather than just judge it from the outside

Same. I went there a few times for translating work on a SAR rail project in Riyadh. Had a (native) friend there and a proper locals tour. Eye opening. Last time was in August – that was absolutely not recommended.

Less fun was that some wag in my cycling Whatsapp group – knowing where I was – thought it would be funny to send a load of gay pr0n gifs to the group.
Imagine my surprise when I checked my messages on hotel wifi :/

try to use mine at least once a year, it’s an absolute pleasure to pitch up. it’s got a rip in the corner of the bathtub groundsheet, which has evidently been yanked to get a tent peg out of the ground. I don’t fancy sending it to the UK for a pro repair so it’s duct-taped up and only gets fair-weather use anyway, often don’t even bother with the inner. Wish the fly hadn’t faded to beige.

There was a bit where he “dangerously” crosses a garden in the first Wales attempt, and you can see his footprints from when he did it previously. Assuming he forgot to switch the gopro on!

Fair play though. Just looking at a map, I couldn’t do the 10k from home to work in a straight line.

I know very little about how modern Cymraeg came to be, but I enjoy that you can conjugate verbs like a romance language eg. “Ddudodd fy mam…”, my mam said / “Ddudes i…”, I said – or with an auxiliary “do” like in English of yore: “Naeth fy mam ddeud…”, my mam did say / “Nes i ddeud…”, I did say. And either work, so you can be a bit lazy in learning the conjugations.

That said, if Spanish or Basque had that “chicken line”, I don’t think I’d have bothered learning any conjugations at all…

I made the distinction of calling Welsh Gaelic probably because I was brought up to refer to Castellano (my second language) as the language spoken in South America. Although that seems to have changed in recent years with more emphasis on calling it Espanol.

But yeah just call it Welsh. It’s obviously not worth arguing the toss

Castellano is my second language too and around here (Euskadi) it’s still referred to as such – Gaztelania, or Gazte. When I speak to people from LatAm they call it Español, semantics maybe but each country has its own distinct flavour of Spanish whereas I tend to think of Castilian Spanish as wot they talk in Madrid.

    Happy to discuss linguistics

    Agreed.
I think Cymraeg differs to the other languages of the family because it’s been continuously spoken, others have died out and been revived. So it has assimilated a lot of loan lexis, like Latin verb endings and English vocabulary, whereas say Kernowek is a more “pure” language.

How about reading that book I mentioned up there Ernie and recognising your attitude in it. I’ll even link you to it. Then, perhaps, every post you have made on this thread wouldn’t have been a massive waste of your time and you might learn something.

The idea for this book came to me one Sunday, as I was reading some columnist’s drivel in, I think, the Sunday Times. He’d just come back from a weekend in Wales, and had filled his weekly thousand word quota with a diatribe about bilingual road signs and the Welsh language generally. At one point, he dipped into the well-scooped cliché pot and complained that Welsh had no vowels and sounded like spitting. I suddenly realised that I’d read this same lame point time and again, and every time presented as something new, something funny and something worth saying. It’s none of them.
