Lumicycle. Had Halogen lights from them originally and they worked well. I bought the biggest battery they had at the time – for really long run times with a spot and a flood pair of units. Now I run the LED. Over 6 years or more, I’ve only had two issues: blew a fuse – battery returned and repaired FoC and I noticed a crack in the reflector of a halogen. Saw them at a Gorrick 12-24 and they replaced the reflector there and then, FoC. No problems at all with the LED and the battery is still good for a few weeks of sporadic long commutes between charges. The batteries are not too bad price-wise but the LEDs are now a lot more than I paid for mine. The Halogen units are only £35 each, which is pretty good I think. These lights are put together in Bournemouth and the after sales is personal. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.

just out of interest, how do they feel to ride (accelerating/turning e.t.c). they do look very interesting

A few of my mates said they’d demo’d them and had problems – stiction or just not smooth compared to Fox or Rockshox, but I got them new and liked them. I’m no expert rider, just average so maybe some expert could feel them flex but they were fine for me. Stiff over small stuff but moving well over bigger hits. You could twist the top of the R/H fork and push down on them to pack them down to about 80mm travel for long hauls on tarmac or uphill, then just ‘undo’ the top and they popped back up to full travel. See more here.

If they go on eBay for anything more than £50 (plus postage) I’d be happy, so if any STW members want first offer, there you have it.

I still need to package up and get a postage cost but if anyone wants to collect, I’m near Basingstoke.

If anyone fancies building a fat bike, I’ll be putting these on ebay soon…

Just need to package them up and work out the postage cost. Forks need a service (won’t stay in short travel mode) and the hub bearings could do with replacing, so won’t be expecting a fortune for them.

I will post a link up on the Trolls forum as we have a lot of riders from that area.

    Thanks Jason.

I’d be grateful if anyone belonging to other clubs or groups in the central south that have we pages could post links too. The police reckon in total there’s about 60 frames.

I have them on all my bikes – either egg beaters for off-road or Candies for road and track. I've snapped one of the arms on one, belting a rock at Afan. They were actually 'Look' egg beaters made under licence. Also had one pair fail completely – bearing collapsed and the pedal came off the shaft which then made a nice little hole in my calf! For hard off-road use I don't get much more than a year out of the cheapest ones. The Candies last much longer, less abuse I suppose. Never have knee problems and mud clogging is never an issue. Cleats are soft and wear quicker than SPDs but I think you get two sets of cleats with all new EB's anyway.

I wouldn't go back to SPDs.

b r Didn't weight just the frame, but built up with all the bit (and a Rohloff) it's about 26.5lbs.

The tubing is columbus which does 'dink' fairly easily.

Measurements were same as the Solitude:

I had a Solitude built by Lee Cooper which was nicked. By this time Alex had wound up Solitude but told me Lee was working for the Coventry Cycle Centre. I got in touch and Lee built me a replacement frame, including a modification to the cable routing I wanted.

Depends which ferry you go over on – I would suggest Lymington-Yarmouth.

On the OS map (if you haven’t got one I suggest you get one), there’s a cycle path following an old rail line up the estuary from Yarmouth to Freshwater. From Freshwater bay there’s a Byway that runs up the ridge of Compton Down heading East. Get on that and you can follow it to Shorewell (good pub) and from there you can get to the South East corner where all the really big hills are. There’s loads of bridleways to link up and most are well sign posted. You could stay round Niton or Ventnor B+B then carry on the following day heading back to Yarmouth via some different trails.
