    must obey unquestioningly

There’s a pretty significant gap between objecting to being detained and beating the shit out of several officers

Is there any chance that racing like that might make MTB racing a bit more acceptable for any of the mainstream broadcasters?

Pointless seeing as WBD have the WC rights for the next 10 years

Yet you didn’t call the number – who would have been able to advise!

But I don’t have to phone someone when I’m putting petrol or diesel in a car. Plus nothing actually said “call this number and we’ll tell you how it works”. Would the phones be answered at 7pm on a Sunday night? Nothing mentions a 24/7 phone service. What if you don’t have your phone on you, or no signal?

Presumably the new station car park will have some easy to use new one

    Loads of charging bays apparently!

Took a wander back down to the bays there with the dog just to see if we had missed some obvious instructions. I’m guessing these are very old chargers based on the very basic LCD screen? I’ve seen the big fancy ones at petrol stations with big ipad type screens that I’m guessing are easy to use

The screen is telling us to touch a card, but no mention of what card it is and there’s nothing on the box that tells you that.

There is a sign on the box with a bunch of blurb that mentions 5 different organisations:

London & Scottish Property, Eureka Solutions, Energy Savings Trust, Charge Place Scotland, Charge and Go

No mention of an app, website address or a card that’s needed, just a phone number

Zero instructions on how to use the charging point at all

Did the garage who supplied the car not explain

They were originally only supposed to have the car for Friday only and it was fully charged. My friend phoned the garage on Friday afternoon to be told their car wasn’t ready and just to keep the electric car until today so no charging instructions were given

going into the middle of a group like that

It was 2 males and their mother Vs 4 cops. I don’t believe they expected what was about to occur. Unless by group you meant that the area in general was full of people of a similar ethnic background? I don’t believe the surrounding people were connected to the antagonists at all.

Just checked what car it was. A Toyota bZ4x. Horrific name unless it’s a play on words I don’t get?

Just googled the charging details for it

    https://support.toyota.com/s/article/bZ4X-Charging?language=en_US

Appreciate that’s the US page but it isn’t half complex. A quick skim read throws up the following variables when it comes to charging

    110v

    240v

    NEMA 14-50R outlet

    Level 2 chargers

    Level 3 chargers

    J1772 connectors

    CCS1 connectors

    12 amp charging

    32 amp charging

Again I’ll use my Mrs as an example of someone who can’t get her head around the difference between a micro USB and USB-C phone charging cable. She’d have a meltdown trying to charge an electric car if she read the instructions

I wonder how much of this complication is driven by the desire for your data? Pumping petrol or diesel today is no more difficult than it was when I first started doing it 30 years ago. It’s the same experience at the fancy BP garage along the road or the tiny wee garage in the middle of the Highlands. Stick the nozzle in, pull the trigger until you’ve put in what you want, go and pay for it. I’ve never had to download an app to do that or need a different app per supplier although I know apps are available for pay at pump stuff.

That was my probably naive expectation for how this would work.

there are also other specific accusations that the mother was the victim of racist abuse from other passengers

Amazingly enough that’s not going to be an acceptable defence in court for beating up some police officers

    BoardinBob

The question is, is this the way armed police normally go about arresting someone who has just been in a fight

It looks as though they were at the pay station for the car park, therefore about to leave the area. Likely the armed police were closest to them at that time and had to respond rather than wait for an unarmed officer

And for both sides of the argument, remember we’re sitting here rewatching the incidents in slow motion, playing out scenarios in our heads and pretending we’d be as cool, calm and collected as James Bond in that situation

    Sound – then cuff him.

Ah yes, because their initial response to the police was extremely compliant

a turn of his head to the right

Given what he’s just done, if I’m at the end of his wrath, I wouldn’t feel safe until he was unconscious or in handcuffs

A man whose instant reaction to the police was extreme violence

    5

I was very critical of the police action after seeing the initial mobile footage. Once you see the full incident a few things stand out

2 people who went from 0-100 in seconds

2 people who were not afraid to use extreme violence against the police

2 people who were clearly trained in combat, likely boxing, and extremely strong and capable

They had incapacitated members of the police group who were now taken out of the situation and we’re no help to the remaining officers

They were attacking the officers from all sides

The officers were surrounded by a mob with no idea if they would join in

The officers were likely reluctant to go to ground to control the suspects in case of more attacks from behind etc.

The kick was delivered at the height of the chaos, not after the situation had calmed down. Man on the ground still posed a huge threat

A hellish situation to be in. I suspect the officer will lose their job, but given everything that was happening, a kick to the head wasn’t unreasonable to ensure a serious threat to their safety was subdued. It’s not pretty, but if he’d kneeled on his back and delivered punches to the head to subdue him, it wouldn’t be nearly as controversial. Head kicks carry huge shock value.

I would happily admit to being accused of being ‘woke’, I’ve spent my life doing my best not to be an asshole to other people, especially people who work in the service and retail industries, and getting a smile in return seems to indicate my ‘wokeness’ is appreciated.

    100% this ^

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a person who’s accused of being “woke” ever describe themselves as “woke”.

The word went from being self used by African Americans as described in an earlier post, to being used as an insult by the right to describe anyone they don’t like

Not British Gas. Without exception the worst customer service of any company I’ve ever had to deal with. They were the supplier when we moved into our house

    Highlights included:

Being unable to access my online account for ages. Kept telling me I wasn’t registered. When I eventually managed to get someone on the phone we discovered they’d setup my account name using the phonetic spelling of my email address?

Being completely unable to make any changes to my account for almost 2 years. They setup my account with a £10 monthly direct debit. For 2 years I was unable to change the direct debit or make an additional payment. They also didn’t bill me for 2 years. Eventually I got hit with a £1900 bill once my account was finally properly setup.

When the account was supposed to be correct and working, any payments I made took months to be deducted from the actual outstanding bill and they kept demanding higher and higher payments despite me having made them all, they weren’t deducting the payments from the balance, they just kept adding additional usage on.

Why didn’t I change provider you might ask? Because British Gas had somehow managed to setup my address wrong for the gas supply, so when I did try to move to Scottish Power, I was only able to move the electricity as the address British Gas had was complete nonsense and bore no relation to my actual address. Then the whole energy crisis hit and no one was taking on any new customers.

I used this Holts one rather than the turtle wax I thought I did. It’s only a fiver more than a bottle of tcut and you get a lot more and it’s far easier than doing it by hand

I’ve used a couple of different kits and they’ve both worked. One from turtle wax and one from Meguiars.

It’s pretty easy. It’ll look a lot worse during the process but don’t panic just keep following the instructions

Started coughing this morning. We still have tests because the Mrs is immunocompromised so did one when I got home tonight. Instant positive line. Don’t feel particularly ill, mild cough, blocked nose scratchy throat. This is the 4th or 5th time I’ve had it and it’s got easier each time

my most hated bike job. I have an absolutely dogeared, torn to shreds saddle on my Mega despite having a brand new Sam Hill saddle ready to fit, simply because I can’t face the horror of swapping it.

best setup I ever had was an iBeam post and saddle on my old Canyon DH bike. An absolute doddle to change or adjust saddles with the iBeam setup.

I thought a key benefit of Euro 6 was that less EGR was needed

So I have a 2016 Mazda 2.2 diesel which has not one but two EGR valves. Interestingly the 2017 engines onwards have the adblue system whereas older engines don’t, but the adblue engines have nowhere near the same problems as the older ones, despite them both being Euro 6 engines.

I think the biggest problem with the euro 6 engines is them not being driven in they way they should. They were sold as being cleaner and with super low VED so lots of people snapped them up despite only using them purely for the 2 mile school run and maybe a run to the shops. They’re then shocked when the inlet manifold and EGR valves end up absolutely clogged with carbon deposits.

All that black crap that used to come out the exhausts of diesels has to go somewhere and it’s ending up clogging intakes or finding its way into the oil.

Personally other than encountering the DPF regen issue I had, I don’t suffer the same problems others have with euro 6 engines because I’m doing a couple of 90 mile runs every weekend and 2 x 210 mile runs up and down to Manchester once a month, and very little short run. The engine gets nice and hot and gets a good run rather than barely reaching operating temps a few times a week.

Previously I had a euro 5 diesel engine which in about 50,000 miles I don’t think it ever did a DPF regen and never gave me a single issue, whereas Mazda software in my current car dictates a regen every 200 miles which in turn puts diesel into the oil

There has not been any increase in 10 year old, 200,000 mile bmw, merc or porsches requiring new engines as a result.

Maybe not new engines, but on modern Euro 6 diesels and the impact of the emissions gubbins on oil degradation, I would not fancy running the same oil in a diesel for 20k miles. I change mine every 6k, either doing it myself or the garage as part of the annual full service. Spending £45 on oil and a filter once a year is a lot better than the outlay for a new EGR, DPF or turbo, all of which are very common on my engine for those that follow the normal 12k service interval.

These pumps sounds intriguing. Anyone got a link to one?

A random amazon one but they’re all the same. Stick the hose down the dipstick and suck the oil out. When you hear it sucking air give the tube a bit of a jiggle until it sucks oil again, repeat that until it’s only sucking air. The only slight caution is it may not fit all dispsticks. Mine fits my Mazda but I can’t get it into my Abarth so that still needs to go up on the ramps but one is a 2.2 diesel and the other is a 1.4 petrol so it may be smaller engines have smaller dipstick tubes.

    Definitely contamination in the oil

Yeah, absolutely honking of diesel and in retrospect there are three marks on the dipstick. One for minimum oil level, one for maximum and then a further higher X mark that is the threshold for diesel dilution and my oil level was well above even that.

I was getting DPF regens every 20 miles. I spent a few weeks monitoring everything like a hawk via an OBD app. After much research I discovered a random forum where the problem was being discussed and the culprit was identified as failing injectors nozzles causing very poor combustion which was in turn filling the DPF rapidly and triggering the regens. Cavitation of the tips causing poor spray pattern.

Sourced 4 brand new injectors for £1,200 and changed them myself. Problem solved. Regens back up to every 200+ miles and the oil level has been rock solid for the past 2 years
