@alsolofty – Do you think you need to be a chartered engineer to be a frame builder then?

I made the cardboard tube from the middle of a roll of carpet into a giant leek, then we loaded cans of Long Life into the tube and took it into Cardiff Arms Park for a Four Nations match.

Never has beer tasted so good

Lorries like that will be no longer be sold when the new EU rules come in in 2023 (? I think).

The new lorries will have lower cabs, with less blindspots – like bin lorries are now.

What sort of a sodding post is this ….

Could you offend my home any more if you were trying ?

In my experience it’s well deserved. I’ve worked on building sites all over the UK, and Liverpool is without a doubt the very worst for thieving.

Our digs got turned over during the day twice, the site was broken into quite often at weekends. I was walking along a scaffold and an arm appeared over a toe-board & some scally lifted a petrol cutter, while it was running!

We were held to ransom by a fictitious block-layers union, the traffic wardens were on the take (to turn a blind eye). the Skip hire company bribed the gateman to sign for phantom skips. A load of marble was knicked, we were then offered it back for a ransom/ fee. The Client’s QS made it clear he would be lenient in negotiations, if we provided entertainment (Cheltenham Gold cup etc)

On a scale of dodginess, with the West End of London at 3, I’d put Liverpool as 10

I remember talking with Brain Rourke a few years ago, Nicole Cook was sponsored by Brian at the start of her career.

He said she was the ‘ardest’ rider he’d ever met, and he’s met a few!

‘Ard as nails’ she was. To be so driven must warp your personality a bit I think.

It’s a weak choice for sure. I’d much rather have seen a bolder, long-term solution.

The voters round Datchet must be Labour, is all I can think!

Another vote for the Whyte 129.

Had mine for 3 months; it’s seriously fast and very capable

We really like Rab and Cres, Krik was a bit rowdy though. Definetly sandy beaches on Rab.

Plitvice lakes- not sure if they’ve now cleared it, but there used to be signs saying something like ‘Don’t step off the path – Mines’!!!!

I know you used to be able to get onto the local roads from the Services at Knutsford, but I though these were now gated, with an intercom?

It’s unlikely, but the chimney breast may be fundamental to the strength of the wall.

As advised above, use an engineer. (£200 – £300)

In my experience it’s worth taking the stack down completely, and roofing over the former location.

I had a road frame made last year by Sword Cycles (See here)[/url]

It’s the best thing I own. Rides sublimely.

Save up and do it! You’ll not regret it.

I bought one for about £80. It had got pretty good write-ups on Amazon.

It made me a lot more cautious about Amazon reviews.

I’ve read that the shapeshifter thing is less successful if you are heavy. It means the pressure required in the small cylinder is very high and difficult to get spot-on.

No personal experience by the way

+ you get roof rails with an estate. Get a cheap set of Thule square bars and you can have a bike roof rack for £200

The F30 is a big car. My three teenaged kids find it a bit tight width-ways across the back seats, length is good though (I think BMW used the floor pan from the old E60).

I used to have an E60 estate, and the F30 is a much nicer car to drive.

No problems at all so far with the F30, had it for nearly 2 years.

I’ve got an F30. I went for the estate so I could get bikes inside it for long trips.

I works well as a load hauler. Handling is good & the 2.0d engine goes really pulls well.

    FunkyDunk.

I’d ring for Mountain rescue if I had a signal for sure.

Yes, I know how to use a tourniquet.

I’d use the dressing to lightly cover an open fracture – nothing more invasive.

    @FunkyDunk

I’ve never had to use it yet tbh.

I’d use it to cover an open wound/ open fracture. As a sling. As a tournequet

I was in your shoes. (I was a QS – Cost engineer in construction). I jacked in Quantity Surveying, put on the Toe-Tectors & became the most useless General Foreman the world has ever known.

7 years later I was project managing large projects. I found that having a proper understanding of Cost and Value was really useful as a PM.

Would this be an option? You’re building on skills and experience you already have.

Are you a Company Director with fiduciary responsibilities?

If so, you need to review the Shareholder’s agreement/ Reserved Matters table & take action I think. (You will incur personal liability if you don’t)

If you are not a Company Director I’d suggest you track down the Shareholders & dob the **** in.

Building contractors would be highly delighted to have their margin raised to 5%!

For any company investing to provide a service then 5% is too low (10 – 12% return on capital is the minimum)

depends how much risk the contract has I suppose.

Sash windows are brilliantly simple, and easy to repair. The timber that was used in manufacture 100 + years ago (Plus lead paint) means that they can go on for a long time.

They are however drafty and rattle. Sound-proofing is very poor and they need repainting every 10 years or so.

uPVC will probably last 20 – 40 years. Is pretty much draft proof and requires little maintenance.

New timber sash windows will be cost prohibitive for most people. If you decide to shell out, make sure the quality is top notch.

Daughter is year 11. She spends huge amounts of time on her art projects etc – but it is her thing. She’s A* & wants to do double or triple art A level.

She has mates who are less interested & spend much less time on the subject, they still seem to get Bs/ Cs
