The Elise is a light car and well made. I had a Porsche that would do 30k + on the back axle. same scenario (I also had a dreadful TVR that once went through a set of Yokos in 7k!)

You need to investigate more. When my car was stolen/ recovered I found out the garage that had recovered the car on behalf of the police had a statutory right to charge me. (Some regulation or other). I bet it will be same for all road vehicles so you will have to pay I think. (Sorry)

Not just cars, I had a really close call with a motor bike recently. He was driving with a vermilion/ purplish filter on his head light, over-taking the line of traffic. One of the cars flashed me out allowing me to join the stream of traffic. I didn’t look properly and as he was in the ‘wrong’ lane my useless brain figured he was moving away from me rather than towards me so I pulled out.

He just managed to swerve around me. My fault, although I felt the coloured filter on his headlight contributed to the near-miss though.

scared the crap out of me

I was given some good advice a long time ago:- “always leave them laughing, if you can”

I.e. try to leave on as good terms as possible, it’s a small world, no need to p!ss people off gratuitously, you might be doing business with them at some point in the future.

It’s only semi useful having a parent’s evening so early in the school year. The teacher will only just be getting to grips with the class. Not really surprised if he/ she didn’t know the full SP on your child

Go back in if you’re not happy

A rotton tooth that needs sorting out, or something that might go away? (I’ve had a ‘bruised gum’ in the past, under the tooth. Hurts like a b*stard for a few days then eases off)

I’ve dealt with Derbyshire and Cheshire Constabularies as part of my job. From an organisational/ management perspective I’d say they are both good/ very good. Their hearts are in the right place, they see the over-riding priorities, they both spend their (our) cash pretty carefully I’d say.

If Derbyshire want to try to tap into Cameroon’s big society then, why not? If there are volunteers out there who are willing to help then more power to them.

I’d hope that one of the benefits of the cutbacks will be a breaking down of the ‘them and us’ division between the public sector/ public servants and the wider public. Derbyshire Police appealing to our better natures is an example of this I think.

All I’ll say is that as part of the burglary my car got nicked as well. the low-cost insurers I had the car insured with were a real pain to deal with. Maybe M&S just seemed so good in comparison

I had to make a claim on an M&S/ AXA home insurance policy earlier this year. They were really excellent, as were the loss adjucters they appointed, Cunningham Lindsey.

    I renewed with them.

I hadn’t heard that they had a bad rep?

    Congrats on the new job!

In my experience a good agency can give you a mix of career guidance and finding the right position. They’re not all parasites, you just need to put some time into interviewing them and finding a good one.

Assos make great shorts, my only gripe is that the curent design makes you look like you’ve got a split-arse, off the bike, so to speak.

I’ve got some sugoi 3/4s, some DHB ones (without a pad), and some MT500s.

I prefer the DHB 3/4 with (admitedly assos) shorts underneath. The sugois are a bit too elastic, the MT500s too in-elastic (or maybe I need to loose weight)

A guy at work went up into his loft to get something & found the electric fan heater he’d put up there to stop the pipes freezing was on – it had been on for about 3 years apparently

Shut off the valves, drain the rad, dismount & takes it outside, flush it through with a hose pipe.

    Very messy

Has someone added the wrong inhibitor to the system?

As said above, I guess he’s just knackered. He’ll be fine after half term once he gets used to the pace.

In the meantime give him some dirt-cheap fizzy pop, the sort with plenty of Tartrazene. That’ll perk the little blighter up.

We had our car nicked as part of a burglary. The house insurers (Marks & Spencer) were great to deal with. Very fair, straightforward etc etc.

The car however was with ESure. What a disaster! They treated me like I was trying to defraud them from the outset. The car was recovered but the repairs took 5 weeks (Locks change only). They refused to meet the cost of a replacement car (small print wriggle out).

It depends why you’re buying insurnace – to be road legal, or as a risk management tool (that you may need to call on one day).

I’ll certainly be reading feedback score/ reviews etc when I renew.

If you can find the rear arm, you should be able to click it back on.

Get the fronts from a scrap dealer, or eurocarparts/similar. Halfords if you need the car immediately (But you might be lucky to find them in stock)

    What a bummer.

My wife’s grandfather used to be an armourer in Lincolnshire during the war. He used to arm Mosquitos with rockets. He had some amazing stories but one thing he did emphasise was that the ‘young bloods’ who flew mosquitos were amazingly brave just to fly in them, never mind fight in them. Apparently the whole aircraft would creak and shake very disturbingly in normal flight. If the machine guns were fired, or aerobatics flown them disturbing would become quite terrifying.

Sometimes aircrew would land and crack-up – refuse to get back into the things next time.

They should get you a new skewer for your turbo & go all over the bike torquing the bolts tight.

They should also give you a voucher or similar i think, in compensation for the aggro – £25 maybe? (a couple of hours of your time)

I have to say, as a regular employer of graduates, poor grammar (in a covering letter) will not get the candidate an interview.

Until the ‘grammar doesn’t matter’ cohort reach the top, this will remain the case I think.

‘what would you say given the opportunity’

I gave a small speech at my Dad’s 70th party, which turned out to be just a few months before he suddenly died.

I told him how we all loved him and what a great Dad he had been/ was. He was very touched. As things turned out I was extremely glad I’d not bottled the opportunity (not a natural public speaker). It made things a lot easier later in my case

They’re not always going to be there – make sure they know how much you love them

To the OP, apologies for the off-topic sermon, I hope you start to feel better soon, you just go on, it’s the only way.

wheels are definite advantage on Gozo, unless you want to use taxis to get to the more out of the way beaches/ DWS etc. Never biked there but you can rent bikes from Xewkija i beleive

day trip to Comino is great

day trip back to valleta for culture etc perfectly possible

I think I’d better get a new pair judging by most of the comments above

Motorised valves usually have a manual over-ride anyway. Look for the small lever that sticks out the side of the casing, it usually has a detente to it can be left open.

It could be that the thermostat that controls the valve has failed. (check operation of the valve as noted above)

    see http://www.askjeff.co.uk/rising_damp.html

(I’m a builder), ‘rising damp is’ usually penetrating damp, condensation, or a bridged damp proof course (EG a path is laid outside that is above the damp course). Penetrating damp is usually traced to things like broken or leaking gutters. Condensation could be caused by blocked off airbricks/ lack of background heating.

The meters that surveyors use are inaccurate, the chemical dampproof course injection industry is a con/ rip-off. (There is a pillar of bricks at the building research establishment that have been standing in a trough of water since the last war – spookily there is no evidence of ‘rising damp’ yet)

Another vote for Park at my house.

If you’re coming down the M1, it should be Ok to park near Stanmore tube (it’s a long ride into town though)
