When we renewed John Lewis Specialist was about half the price of our M + S requote and it gave us much better cover. Tried John Lewis normal insurance and they put us onto their specialist branch.

I’ve got an Evil Insurgent in small and I love it- it is the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden- confidence inspiring, playful, really good on tight, steep stuff and when you want to just let it go it feels so stable. It climbs pretty well too- limiting factor is me! I don’t know if it would work GolfChick but you’d be welcome to try it.

We switched to John Lewis from M+S and almost halved how much we pay.

With John Lewis/Sterling you don’t have to list the bikes at all whatever the value and there is no upper limit to the total value of bikes you have. Was very simple to get set up.

Not experienced it myself but a friend was going uphill, stood up to pedal and next second they were on the deck as their carbon bar had completely broken. Having said that I still use a carbon bar….

I can’t remember how long we took to do the ride but we caught a flight back the same day (think it was 9pm) and had loads of time to spare. And that was with starting at Avoriaz, doing the first descent into -I think it’s Lindaret and standing in the lift queue until we realised we’d left the lift passes behind giving us an extra loop as we had to go back up and get them!! So time wise it’s fine…we did worry a bit about getting a mechanical and being slowed down. I wouldn’t choose to do it!!

I’ve ordered from them and had forks serviced by them. They’ve always been really good and I wouldn’t hesitate in using them again.

The freeride elements and Sam Hill impact elements both have the grippier sole….I think
The elements xvi with the smooth sole are very comfy, hold water out and if they get submersed are quick to dry. Mine are holding up pretty well in terms of wear. Pretty sure the ones you want will perform the same but with extra grip for off the bike manoeuvres!!

Ndg – I’ve got an endorphin which I love and agree with your opinion of it. I had a fox ctd and swapped it for a ccdba cs- it has transformed the bike to an even higher level.

Easyjet are currently reviewing the change in policy they have made to bike weight allowance. I’m holding my breath waiting!!

Not 29 but have you thought about the Knolly Chilcotin?

It’s £70 for the bikes for a return flight (up to 23kg) and £39 for 20kg of hold luggage. With that you get a max of 43kg of luggage.

Don’t know when it changed…. but last night when I was making a booking; that is what was charged:-)

Flew with Easyjet recently, bought both 20Kg hold allowance and ‘sports equipment’ allowance. Came to an extra £114 pp return. Probably paid for something we didn’t need, but we didn’t want to get to the airport and be stung silly money for excess baggage/incorrect allowance. So do you just need to pay for ‘sports equipment’ allowance (£27 per flight), to get a max. 32kg allowance, or do you need to pay for the hold allowance (£25 for max. 20kg) too? It just seemed too confusing, and tok 3 ‘phone calls to ‘customer services’ to work out that we seemed to need to purchase both.

With an evoc bag my bike plus shoes, a few tools, inner tubes, knee and elbow pads came in at 29kg. Looks like shoes and whatever else I can get in will go as cabin luggage from now!

How about a Knolly Endorphin? 140 travel but feels more than that, it climbs really well, descends like a bike with more travel, is nimble and so much fun to ride. With 160 forks it’s 66.5 degrees – think more people run 150 forks but it’s brilliant with the longer ones.

I’ve got one built up with 160 Bos Deville forks. I don’t agree with the flow review – it is a brilliant climber and a fast bike. It seems to do everything well and is so much fun to ride. I love it. Here’s a link to someone who has had one for 6 months and who is probably better at writing than me! I use mine for every type of riding and can’t believe how adaptable it is. I could build it up lighter but it doesn’t feel heavy to pedal; not weighed it but it’s probably around the 28lb mark.

Antony, I’d like 2 or 3 of the entries please, just need to hear from you re if any of the entries you have are for females. I don’t know whether they check names etc when you register/sign on/collect your goodie bag, but would hate to get there and be refused!!

Thanks for the info about getting to avoriaz. Are any of the entries for females, like 2 of them – it’s just that if we’re signing on it would make life a whole lot easier!

I’ve been using Arch ex rims for a while now and have had no problems with them on rocky trails. Did the last gravity enduro on them as well. I had flows and I can tell the difference in the weight when I’m riding…unless it’s psychological!!

I’m selling a Santa Cruz Blur LT2 frame. It’s got 140 travel, anodised black, small (I’m 5’6″) and in really good condition. £500. It’s a hugely confidence inspiring bike.

Just had a fantastic fortnight with Bike Verbier – can’t fault the way they get everything just right in terms of organisation, accommodation, grub, guides, atmosphere in the chalet etc etc. As for the trails, they were ridiculously varied and unbelievably good, and most of them would have been impossible to find and reach without BV’s local knowledge and van/trailer combo. A massive cheers and top marks to Phil, Lucy and the rest of the team. Still grinning about that new epic off the back of the bowl…

Have to agree with what wl says about BV….except I wasn’t there for a fortnight (only a week) and didn’t do the new epic…but I did have a tyre like his and the weight it saved….well just great!
