Hi,

Some of the other Reservoir Goats and I have entered. We've done some of the Kona Mash-ups before. I'm wondering what the format is. I know that it's timed sections separated by a time limited ride to the next start, but what can we expect on the timed sections?

I rode the Ae red route on my old Hardrock and I told them that it isn't really technical. I'll be on my Prophet (full-suss AM bike) but some of the other lads are going hard-tail. Would hard tails be able to cope with the event?

Cheers

Andrew.

I just bought… Erm…. a friend of mine <ahem> just bought a pair of 2.2RQs without checking if they'll fit my his Fox 120RLs. Anyone tried them with this fork? The specs on Fox's website don't seem show that detail.

My friend is working away from home at the mo so he can't check the fit just yet.

TIA

Andrew.

VIkingboy. Mind if I ask how much it cost?

It's something I've been thinking about for a while as I have several areas that need improvement….

Jase The Goats do do some gnarly stuff but it's not compulsary :-) We like to mix it up. XC, windy single track, plus the gnarly stuff over the other side of Woburn Road, etc. Typical Sunday morning is about 10 miles in abou 2.5 hours. Then coffee at Starbucks.

Meeting point is deffo at the Memorial tho.

oldgit I'm an old git too (47) and I manage to keep up even after being out of action for 6 minths :-) Don'yt fany owt, don't ride it.

Ooops! Anita the web-mistress has pointed out that her email address is anitahartley@googlemail.com …..

We* also ride on Sundays if you can make Bow Brickhill memorial for a 9:00 start. It's generally a mixed bunch.

*I say we, I'm currently working in Glasgow so not an easy option for me.

Enjoy the Ride….

Have a word with anita.hartley@googlemail.com. The Reservoir Goats & Chicks ride on Wednesday nights either around the woods or an urban ride around MK

Thanks for the reply. Not sure if I'll be able to start drilling big holes in the walls so I might make do with some hefty chains around a pipe.

Well thanks for all the help.

I'm not going to le a bit of sectarian violence scare me off…. I lived in Sheffield (Duke Street….) for 3 years in the early 80s

I'll probably rent a room as a lodger to keep costs down (I'm from Yorkshire originally!) and I've planned a weekend in Glasgow for looking around.

I'll definitely be up for some tours once my knee is better.

Can someone tell me when it gates dark in the summer? Thinking about late evening summer rides…

Big thanks

Andrew.

Good point about the seat height. I have felt cramped on my bike so I did raise the seat height to improve pedalling performance but now it hurts no matter how high the seat is.

When I'm not pedalling I have no pain at all, so not always taking Ibuprofen.

I have some stretching exercises to do. As I'm unemployed, I sure I can beat Harry's 6 minutes per hour target!

Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, it's NHS. Out of work at the mo so a Physio is not an option.

Foam roller sounds like a good idea. Used one on a sore thigh in the past.

I'll try the stretches. Seems like that is key.

I'd like the Memory Map (or GPX) route too, if you would be so kind. Looks gorgeous.

Hi,

Weather was fantastic yesterday!

We did the loop and added Hayfield in for lunch. Hardest ride of my life.

I'm on 175mm cranks at the mo, but that seems OK. It's just when seat is up and I'm pedalling I don't see to be getting everything out of my legs and my bum wants to move back.

I'll check the knee position tomorrow.

Do you think that a stem with a rise would help?

Of course this could be my lanky body just not fitting or perhaps the Prophet frame is a compromise between XC and DH.

Thanks guys. To answer some questions:

I put a shorter stem on it because I felt too far fwd on steep descents and I wanted a faster steering response. I use the bike for DH too…. after all, it's supposed to be all mountain.

Another thing is, pulling the front up to get over obstacles is also tricky. This tells me that too much weight is on the front or perhaps, I am still too far fwd. Not balanced well enough? Maybe I should get a stem with an rise in it?

Getting behind the BB is the key. A longer stem would move me fwd again.

I checked the seatpost. It's a straight. In house C3.

Frame is a large

Pook: Do you have a gpx for the route. Not sure how to get back to Edale after Jacob's ladder.

Tnx.

I went on to see my mum and sis etc, near Wakefield. Got a massive dinner out of it ….

I'd go again, but when it's dried out. If….

Well I managed to do the XC loop. It was very wet and thanks to my modest skills I found myself walking several sections – simply too rocky, rooty and muddy for me especially at the start of the loop. If it had been dry I would have probably had a go.

I took a small diversion across Wharncliffe Crags (along side the huge rocks on top?) and managed a face plant on a rock  … which was nice… :? Teeth OK tho.

Left exhausted…..

I was given a last minute chore to do…. leaving now.

I don't know where you mean, but if you check your work email, I have sent my mobile number. Text me an address and the satnav will do the rest.

Podge: From the bottom? That might be interesting….. where does that start?

Weather looks fine tomorrow in Sheffield.

I'm driving up from Buckingham and I'll be there by about 11:30 (M1 traffic permitting), if anyone is about.

Where should I park for the easy loop? Woodhead Road?

Peak district ride will have to wait until 8th August.

If it's wet at Wharney I'd be up for Cut Gate. Do you have a link to the route? Not ridden the Peak District before but probably good for 20 miles.

The first time it snapped 1 link away from the powerlink so I removed the broken link and ran with a shorter chain. I was very careful but as soon as I increased the power on a slight incline it snapped again. This time in half.

I’ll look into those recommended.

I use a TACX 3000: wiggle Worked well on my hartail frame but my Prophet doesn’t quite fit due to the fat downtube.

Before that I tried a TACX T3050: Wiggle this is a very good stand IMO; stable etc, but my large Hardrock frame didn’t really fit properly – bike too long So any long wheelbase bike or a bike with a slack head angle might have trouble too.

Stands in general do make jobs so much easier.

Answer:

The inner hex nut has to simply screwed out as normal. This eases the crank off. The outer hex nut is a retainer that shouldn’t come off the crank.

Bled the brakes and once again a pad fell out as I was out in the woods…. going down hill…. quite fast….

Looks like one of the pistons isn’t moving properly and the little nipple thing that should locate on the rear of the pad isn’t.

Sending the brake back for a replacement.

Thanks

Thanks guys. I’d better order a kit!

The bike was fully assembled and shipped with the bars in line with the frame.

Cables and hose looks like a rats nest and actually catch on the top of the fork…. in fact exactly where the compression dial is located LOL… :?

Thanks for the help.

I’ll ask my LBS to do do it as the bike needs some work done because Wheelies Direct didn’t assemble the bike properly – left a 1mm gap between the headtube/headset and the top of the fork.

Bludgeon
Free Member

OK thanks. I’ll use that then. The bike came from Wheelies Direct (insurance job) – they just cable-tied it to the fork’s lower arch.

No ideas about the compression dial tho?

Slight change of subject but how about this for service?:

Badly damaged bike November 2nd.
Started insurance claim November 12th
Arranged to collect bike November 17th – no show
Collected bike December 2nd
Finally inspected it December 22nd
Decided (after I insisted) fork send to Fox January 7th
Fork returned OK January 14th
Ordered replacement bike January 15th
Arranged delivery for replacement bike on February 13th – stayed at home
Replacement arrived on February 16th – went to work
I checked it out – Fork not flush with underside of head tube (1mm gap) and brake hose snagging on fork’s crown when turning….
Taking it to my local shop to be fixed on Saturday…

The bike shop is the insurance companies favourite: Wheelies Direct!

There! That’s off my chest and I dfeel much better now….

Pitch and Prophet 1 both got 10/10 in January’s (?) MBR mag.

My Prophet 1 arrived yesterday. I’ll let you know more after the weekend.

Only things I’m likely to change are the stem and the Hutchinson Toro 2.35 tyres. Tyres seem a bit light weight and I’m in a mini DH event at the weekend.

Thanks for all the feedback. I though that, possibly, the gym bike just couldn’t load me sufficiently for me to get a higher hear rate.

Valid points about us all being different too.

I’ll give some of the suggestions a try and let you know.
