Been running a sunrace 11-50 with a long cage XT mech for a couple of months. Really pleased with it. No need for a goatlink or anything. Shifts perfectly.

Running 11 speed XT shifters and long cage mech and a sunrace 11-50 cassette. No back peddling issues. Everything has worked flawlessly so far.

To me the benefits were that I could keep the existing freehub and the overall cost was a fair bit cheaper than sram GX. Also consumables like cassette and chain are going to be cheaper for ongoing up keep. The range is almost the same as eagle. Depending on your chainring size you could decided if you ‘lose’ that bit from the top or bottom of the range but either way it should be more than enough for the vast majority of people. With the eagle gx mech issues I’ve seen reported here since, it feels like a dodged bullet as I was heading towards GX eagle until I found out about the sunrace cassette and did the maths.

Does seem surprising. Most of the travelling community are illiterate. Not sure how many there are but they must make up a good proportion.

Really happy with my IXS Flow’s (and the knee pads too). Not bulky, stay in place and don’t rub.

    Just caught up. Amazing thread.

The LGBTQ Oman post had me in tears. Comedy gold.

Try a conveyancing solicitor threesome. Our neighbour agreed to sell us and another neighbour part of their garden land. We agreed the plot boundaries and agreed a price. All we needed the solicitors to do was the legal bit with the land registry. Easy you’d think. It might have been if it was just two involved but trying to get three to work together was like herding cats. Took 14 months in the end!

Yeah, I picked one up from cyclestore for £85 in the sale. It’s been bone dry since here and was even dry for a 3 day trip to Wales a couple of weeks ago!

Seems good quality. Think it will be more suited to colder temps as it’s more mid-weight than lightweight.

I’ll probably be getting this for my daughters next bike. £180 after British Cycling discount.

Did the Academy race tonight. Not done it before and 8:30 works better as I’m always rushing for the 8pm races after sorting the kids! Didn’t expect to do well having not ridden much lately and put on a few lb! Started in D, got a flier start and then settled in. Caught a few groups and had a decent race. Ended up 2.8 w/kg so did much better than expected. Felt good. Was nice to be in a bigger field again. Also first race since the upgrade. That little map with the dots is great!

The XT shifter is much nicer IMO both in the lever feel and ergonomics, but also in the more positive click when you shift. I also like the double upshift thing you get.

Mech probably not much in it.

    Sunrace cassette though.

Bought Sunrace 11-50 cassette a few weeks ago. Delivered by DPD in about 4 days. It was a good bit cheaper than anywhere else. Would use again.

Part of my job is advising the immunisation nurses on the school vaccines, for example, if they’re unsure if a child can have it because of a condition they have or if they’re taking medication. My working life is shortly going to be taken over by flu!

There’s no reason not to have it. It’s inactivated (adults) or live attenuated (child nasal) and can’t give you flu. It can take 2 weeks to develop an antibody response so it’s possible to have it and then contract a cold or (if you’re really unlucky) flu itself in those 2 weeks which sometimes mistakenly leads people to think the Jab ’caused’ flu.

It can cause minor symptoms of fever, sore arm etc which are usually self limiting and not a patch on proper flu.

We get it free being healthcare professionals. In fact we get incentivised with an extra 1/2 day leave if we have it! I’d pay for it if didn’t get it free though.

We went to local plumbers merchant who recommended Lakes as a solid mid priced brand. He advised us to avoid the very cheapest but said these were well made and GVFM. Not had it too long but happy with it so far.

We went from a CNOC 14 to a Beinn 20 small with my daughter on her 4th birthday. She is tall for her age but it was a bit bigger than recommended. However she was a very confident rider, having been riding the CNOC since she was 2 and a half. When it arrived and she got on it, it did look too big and was a bit unwieldy but she soon got used to it and she’s still on it now just approaching her 7th Birthday (but the searpost is now maxed and we’ll be looking to change soon).

I don’t regret going straight to the Beinn small at all. She’d very quickly have been too small for the CNOC 16 and having the gears is a big plus. She soon got used to them and it opened up all kinds of riding. She’s done lots of the local trails near us and I doubt she’d have been as far along had we only got the CNOC 16.

3-4 weeks off the bike when I cracked my ribs. Probably 6 weeks before I couldn’t feel anything.

I think Fox over estimate the recommended pressure for a given rider weight. For my bike the recommended pressure in the Float DPS shock is about 155 psi for my weight and I run it at 130 psi with the stock volume spacers.

For the Fox 34 fork it advises about 90psi and I run it at 70 psi but with 1 spacer instead of the 2 that came installed.

I’m sure there’s been other threads where others said they needed lower pressures than recommended.

Just did the KISS second base too. This warm up lap business is confusing?! It’s says it’s going to be 3 laps but then there’s a warm up before the 3 laps start. Not sure what you’re supposed to do on the warm up so I just treated it as a 4 lap race! Did a lot better than last time. Managed to catch a few wheels and had a cracking sprint battle at the end which I managed to hold the guy off. Think I might have just sneaked 3rd after DQs with bang on the 2.4w/kg limit.

Thanks for the replies. Twrch on the way over defo sounds like a plan. Bit more choice of options for day 2. Had no idea they did guiding at the lodge. Sounds interesting depending on cost? Will look into that or maybe do W2. We’ll have all day so hopefully we won’t be too knackered for BPW. Some good food for thought there.

Small helmet size here too. As above, it’s great. Usually end up with 70% off helmets in clearance as they only get left with small sizes. Had some proper bargains.

    Just a thought….

Can you remove the direct mount link and attach the bolt nearest the derailleur cable directly to the frame?

Looks like you might have clearance without it fouling the cassette and it would bring the mech in? Might work with a bit of b-screw adjustment to clear the casette?

I’d be having a look at this:

    http://pedalsbikecare.co.uk/shop/occam-am-m30-large-orange-xt-brake-1x-upgrades/

Love mine. Full carbon frame keeps the weight down so it’s great for xc rides but it’s got a good amount of travel for your harder riding. It’s a brilliant all rounder IMO. The large should be good for you too. I’m 5′ 9″ on that size and it’s great.

I just went 1 x 11. XT shifter, mech and One Up NW (comes with 2mm spacers which do give a much better chainline) from CRC. Sram X1 chain from Planet X. Sunrace 11-50 from Athleteshop. Around £200 all in with CRC 10% discount and a couple of codes.

I messed up recently and didn’t log in before I used the code so it didn’t work. Called customer services and they said just put the order through and email us the code and we’ll apply it retrospectively which they did.

Ordered an XT mech last week and paid for priority dispatch hoping to have it for the weekend. Didn’t get dispatched the next day or the one after. Chased them and they said the same system issue to blame as mentioned and they had no stock despite the site saying 10+. Order cancelled and refunded.

Also back on Zwift for the first time in ages tonight. Did the Kiss race in D. Bit odd as it said the race was 3 laps but then somehow it ended up being 4 with the first lap not seeming to count.

Anyway, found it hard work. Not been on the roadie for a while in real life and it showed. Didn’t feel great but you need to start somewhere! The race itself was a bit crap. Not many in it and ended up riding almost all of it alone. Couldn’t even tag on to any randoms as they were either flying or pootling!

    Good workout anyway as always.

My daughter has just got to the minimum insert mark on the seat post of her islabike beinn 20 so won’t be long before we need to get her another bike. Looks like this could be the one at that price.

I’m just converting from 2 x 10 to 1 x and was looking at eagle gx but with an xd driver it was north of £300.

Decided to go 1 x 11 with XT shifter and long cage mech, Sunrace 11-50 cassette and a sram X1 chain. With a new narrow wide chainring this was approx £190 all in. Picked the sunrace up for £65 delivered from athleteshop.

Fitted most of it, just waiting for the mech to turn up and then will be testing it out. Hoping it works well. The cassette is massive!
