No need to lift them put a suitable smoothing compound over the top

I’ve used Phillips VW in Lisburn a good few times and found them to be very good. Can usually fit you in at short notice as well. Only 25 mins from Castlewellan then you can hit the A1 down to Dublin. Will definitely be less expensive to get it fixed in NI

EDIT – Kerrs tyres and auto I’ve also used have a place in Newry. I’ve used other branches for servicing

If you are only starting and not sure if you will stick at it get something like the Alesis Nitro mesh. It will be quite a while before you would need something like a td27. And a bigger market (beginners) to sell on to if you decide to upgrade.

Then order a custom maple kit 😉

<p style=”text-align: right;”>OP they can just put two two coats of liquid DPM before the levelling compound and then glue down on top. Unlike the posters above I’ve seen many failures in LVT click so have glue down in my house and it’s perfect in every way.</p>

Don’t get caught up in brand names. There are many different quality grades from many manufacturers.

Go for a commercial grade product with at least a 0.55mm wear layer. Most residential products are only 0.3mm therefore not as hard wearing.

I work for Tarkett so I have their stuff in my house it’s been down 4 years and there isn’t a mark on it. Tarkett or Polyflor from a flooring distributor will be better priced than Amtico and Karndean as they focus on the residential retail market.

Also don’t DIY especially if you are laying on the angle.

OP if the vinyl tiles are well bonded and reasonably level I would leave them alone and look at a click LVT product instead. This is installed in the same way as laminate basically.

The only decision you need to make is to take the skirting off and replace on top of the flooring or if you don’t want to do this you can fit the flooring up to the skirtings leaving a small movement gap then put a scotia trim over this.

You can get Click LVT with a bonded underlay so you don’t even need a separate underlay.

Stick down LVT is not a DIY job IMO.

1mm dense foam. Do not go thicker as too much underlay and poor quality click can cause problems with breaking of the short ends.

Do you have an address for the apartment. If it’s outside the city centre you should be able to park on a street nearby

My favourite song up to a few weeks ago is Thunder Road, just takes you to that place amazing.

However I heard The Wish for the first time recently and I was reduced to tears thinking about my Mum. Unbelievably powerful song

OP I’ll drop you a PM tomorrow.

Nobeer I’m sure it will be fine. Just make sure to check the installation instructions as they are often stricter that you would imagine. Something like a 3mm deviation in level over 2m would be common. In the worst case scenario your short end of a click board is above a joint in your subfloor and it moves the you could potentially break the click joint and problems can mount from there.

I’ve also had issues where handymen thought fitting over carpet, no joke, would be fine 🤦‍♂️

I haven’t heard of it I’m afraid Scotroutes but if you go with a 2.5mm thick with 0.55mm wear layer then should be ok.

OP don’t get to hung up on brand Amtico and Karndean are the names you have heard of because they market to the domestic market heavily.

What you need to consider is the thickness of the tile and the thickness of the wear layer.

Most domestic glue down will be 2mm thick and 0.3mm wear layer. This imo is not robust enough for a busy household with kids, pets etc.

Look for something 2.5mm thick with 0.55mm wear layer, this will be classed as commercial grade product but will be much more durable.

In terms of click vs glue down I will always recommend glue down. As you are fitting new ply make sure the joints and screw heads are covered with feather finish and you are good to go.

Also don’t be under the illusion that if you go for click the subfloor doesn’t need to be in good condition, sure you can go over tile joints but you still need to be careful, I’ve seen click systems fail badly due to poor floor prep.

£30 sqm is crazy expensive, go to a flooring distributor and you will get 0.55mm wear layer product from Tarkett or Gerflor for around £16 sqm. This will be made in Europe and not China so tends to be better quality.

You can also get digitally printed LVT now which means the pattern repeat is 12 sqm rather than the 3 sqm that is standard. This is great if you are using wood plank designs and don’t want the same knots showing up every 12 planks!

Happy to point you in the direction of a supplier of you let me know where you are based.

OP for other options look at Tarkett, Polyflor or Gerflor. Also go for 0.55mm wear layer which is commercial grade but will wear better

I work for one of the major manufacturers of LVT and have glue down in my own house. I’ve seen too many issues with click TBH.

Great choice really low maintenance and looks as good as the day it went down
