That is where my limited technical knowledge gets exposed. Not sure where thermal over load or klixon is. Have changed cap and relay – compressor tries to start (slight buzzing noise) but then clicks off. Will wait for engineer tomorrow.
    Thanks for all advice

Unfortunately not lucky with the capacitor and relay change – swapped them both out this morning – unless there is some sort of special priming process?
Otherwise have engineer coming tomorrow morning to change the whole compressor.

Thanks DB – Slough climate centre have the parts – will pick them up Monday and give it a go – cost ca £50 so could work out well. Disappointed the original engineer did not even bother to test them…

thanks DB – I did call them but they said the cap and relay were both special orders. I am sort of electrically competent and will defo try the facebook group. Looks like I should be able to get both these for <£100.

I think that’s what I am looking for – a compressor specialist – not in Buckinghamshire by any chance?

Yes – mind you he did not check anything with a multi meter – judged on the basis of a 30 sec “fizzing” noise (presume from the capacitor) which failed to start the compressor.

    Model is danfoss FR8.5G

Mrs Blanklook has…new car roof, new bike rack, but the bikes were fine. I still mention it from time to time.

I set up a spare router to use as an extender and yes that works with the same id and password. Not sure about the plug in ones though. One thing I have noticed is that when I move around, the laptop sometimes “holds on” to the signal from one router which then deteriorates – have to force it to change to the closer router by clicking on the network connections icon on bottom right of screen…

I will watch that bigyinn – have to say I am paranoid about ruining the bearings – I have been forcing them in pretty hard using the threaded bar but so far they still run free…

Had a good go with threaded rod, washers, sockets etc and they don’t want to move any more – will try with punch too…

Thanks for that – have found someone who will make custom washers on eBay but was expecting them to be stock items. Anyone else had similar issue?

@nuke I am in process of changing chainstays after crack discovered . Main pivot bearing has seized to axle and I have managed to bugger the thread on the axle so will be needing new one. Did you source your replacements from Cotic? Also can you recommend best source for new bearings?
    Thanks

Thanks Elshalimo – enquiry sent to SMG. Anyone know anywhere in London that would do similar to save postage…

Thanks all for the replies – looks like mine is “the baggy sweaty nasty bin bag” then…funny, I always thought it was pretty good.
Zip totally went last night (at -1deg) so will look at the other suggestions. Keep ’em coming…

Suspect the hub might have been run into the ground – minimal maintenance – 3 years commuting….I have some spare hubs at home so may be worth it to build up a new wheel (which I cannot do either BTW). Will make some calls.
    Thanks for help.

Not a stupid question as I have had massive issues getting tyres on and off Stans rims in the past. BUT key is to get the bead in the centre of the rim, start getting the other side of the tyre in and actually believe you can do it – it can take time but it does work!

I have a Birdy bought second hand and use it for 7m commute on country (hilly) roads, train then 5m in London. Good points are it uses pretty conventional parts which are easily available except for the wheels which are 18″ and difficult to source. Folding is not bad but would not carry it far as it is not as compact as the brompton. One piece frame which does not break in the fold so quite stiff. I have only test ridden the brompton and it rode pretty well but I was a bit worried about parts reliability. Having said that any bike ridden regularly as a commuter will need repair from time to time…

Just Riding Along recommend the 25mm tape for crests – although both widths work the 25mm gives a tighter fit…

Seems like the jury’s out! Not sure if Hope do a solid axle version (they do bolt in which I gues would do…) but am thinking worst case will gice chain tug a go. Now I understand that the single cog will damage the (alu) freehub on the Hope – replacement steel one is £60 – aargh!! May gave to start another thread on cheap SS rear wheel build…
    Thanks for comments.

Yes I have second picture (track ends??) – terminology wrong. What frame is the first pic?

Thanks www. I thought though there was danger of the wheel slipping forward in the dropouts (loosening chain). If not, great – makes things simpler.

Thanks TINAS. Yes hope to have it built for Winter but think it will suit quite a lot of the riding I have close by anyway – so use will extend into Summer – provided the knees stand up to it. As far as weight scale goes, it is steel frame so will not be the lightest anyway…
    Are the Marzocchis that cheap??

Worth writing to Gore? I did so when I messed up installing a sealed system. They sent a new liner within a week – good service (though not convinced they are worth the money…)

Certainly works going the other way. Are you using the 2 ring specific front mech? You will need to change to 3 ring model. You may also have to fiddle with the BB spacers to get allignment right. Not sure if the spacing is different but would doubt it.
